About this listing
Handmade and inspired design walkable to Mississippi and Alberta st. Gourmet kitchen, hundreds of house plants. Featured in design magazines and Portlandia.
Welcome to Portland and our wonderful home.
We are Emily, an art director/designer/artist/musician; Adam, a musician/screenprinter; Cowbear the cat, and Donut the little dog.
Featured in the recent season of Portlandia, Kun:el Magazine, Popeye Magazine, and Linere Magazine.
Our home has wonderful amenities:
Huge remodeled kitchen with concrete counter tops, 5 burner gas stove. yes, we love to cook! And have many wonderful Le Creuset cookware, nice Shun knives, dishwasher, and raw walnut counter top.
Our wonderfully big open living room is decked out with kilim rugs, sofa and chairs, and driftwood chandelier, and many plants, Emily's art as well as art from local artists, and artifacts from our travels.
The lush backyard has a fire pit, fruit trees, organic vegetable garden and nice spots to lay about in the sun on one of our many woven blankets, though for the season it is a bit overgrown and wild.
We have 2 rooms for rent, and your room has a nice south facing window, woodfloors, nice closet space, and a hardwood bed frame. The room has a Queen bed. Also we just got brand new sheets, duvet covers, and new pillows! The pillow covered are made by Adam!
You will share a bathroom that has a rain shower, lots of plants, and toilet and sink with our other guests if they are there, and we also use that shower sometimes, but we have our own bathroom.
There is also a toilet just off the kitchen.
The house is very well insulated, stays nice and toasty in the winter and cool in the summer.
We use all natural soaps and cleaning products, and are sensitive to strong perfumes and colognes. Please be respectful of using them in the house. We are totally into essential oils and nice smelling things, but everyones nose is different!
We are still working on our home and there are a few unfinished things, but they are all cosmetic, and nothing that takes away from the comforts and overall style of the place.
Collectively we have lived in Portland for over 25 years, and will happily share our favorite breakfast spots, bars, venues, and more with you! Maybe there is a cool BBQ, concert, or art opening while you are in town, we will let you know!
Our home is close to Alberta Street, Mississippi ave, the Sunday farmers market is 2 blocks away! There are multiple transit options within 2 blocks as well.
We are near great bars, fantastic dining, and a few great parks as well.
Pets allowed on a case by case basis.
We really look forward to having you in our home.
Emily, Adam, Cowbear, and Donut.
We hope you treat our home with the care that you would treat your own place. We have rebuilt this place from the old bones of it's 1906 frame, and put lots of love into it.
If you cook, we hope you will clean up after yourself.
Otherwise, we want you to feel comfortable and at home in our home.
The front gate must always be closed right behind you when you are coming in and out, as the dog has his tricky ways of escaping!
When you use the lockbox, we ask that you ALWAYS leave the key in the box after unlocking the door, as we sometimes use it as well.
Smoking is not allowed inside, but you can smoke on the front porch.
There is free street parking.
What a fantastic home! I had such a wonderful time staying at Adam and Emily's artistic oasis... Everything was as pictured, a very comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Amazing bonus: I loved hearing only crickets at night as I fell asleep in my room... So unexpected when staying in a city. Emily and Adam provided a great place to call home for a few days, not to mention recommended some of the best meals and treats I had in Portland. Cowbear and Donut are adorable oddballs to have around too!
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Emily and Adams place! Their home is beautiful and they are both so welcoming. They gave us heaps of great recommendations and didn't mind us bugging them with questions. Thank you again guys!!! We definitely felt at home during our stay. I highly recommend this to anyone!
A magical and beautiful home with a warm, inviting and lovely energy. Though Adam and Emily were out of town, the home was a beautiful reflection of them. Thank you for a lovely experience with my first airbnb experience!
Emily and Adam were very warm hosts. They were easy to talk to and connect with. They gave wonderful suggestions for places to go and see and restaurants to eat at. The gifts that they gave for staying with them were so sweet and genuine. The room I stayed in was very clean and cozy and the house was welcoming as well. The cat Cowbear was so full of love also!! I really enjoyed my time I spent there and enjoyed getting to know such inspiring people. I only wish I had been able to spend more time with them. I can't wait to come back next time I visit Portland!
Adam and Emily's apartment is very relaxing and nicely decorated. The listing has air conditioning (most houses in Portland don't), which was great for the 90+ degree weather that was there when I visited. The area is quiet, but close to both Mississippi and Alberta, both of which are lively streets with lots of nice shopping and dining
Staying with Adam and Emily was quite an inspiring experience. Their home is beautifully decorated boasting a warm bohemian vibe throughout. The room was clean and comfortable upon arrival. They had information available on a desk for house needs as well as recommendations for our stay in Portland. Emily was also available by text, if not present, and would promptly communicate if reached out to. Their two pets, Cowbear and Donut, were adorable and we had the pleasure of having Cowbear the cat as a sleepover guest one night. We utilized a shared bathroom with other Airbnb guests. Perhaps my favorite part about the stay was getting the opportunity to have dinner with Adam, Emily and friends on our last night. Although this isn't always possible as they explained because they do lead busy lives, we were grateful and delighted to be around them. They are an amazing couple and great cooks. Being able to sit down, have conversation over an intimate outdoor meal with Animal Collective playing softly in the background made for a truly memorable experience.
The stay in Adam and Emily's house became particularly unforgettable in this trip.
They sent a polite message accordingly after I booked.
So, I had not been used to staying by Airbnb, but I was able to check in very smoothly.
When I arrived, they met me warmly.
In addition, Cowbear the cat, and Donut the little dog, were very friendly, I was so relaxed.
Interior of the house is very wonderful. And a letter and the gift, prepared for in the room, were so nice above all.
For their casual consideration and a heart of the hospitality, I showed a smile unintentionally.
Because their house was close to Alberta Street and Mississippi Street, I was able to enjoy Portland with the guide which they prepared.
This house is so cozy, and perfect to sense a living of Portland bodily. I recommend it with confidence!

About the Host, Emily And Adam
We are a Macrame teacher/Instagram lover/artist/creative director/foodie and a screenprinter/musician/sports fan/best friend/designer super thrilled to travel and host wonderful guests in our favorite place.
We are avid thrift-shoppers and have amazing luck when it comes to discovering treasures and parking spaces. With this special knack, we create beauty in our space, and consider the atmosphere to be a very important part of the day.
Recently our home was featured in the beautiful Japanese lifestyle magazine Ku:nel, and also on Portlandia. The home is also featured in a beautiful new book called THE NEW BOHEMIANS, which is on the NYT's best seller list! We are excited that our love of interior spaces has allowed us to create an intentional and plant filled space to host you.
Emily loves to cook, read, make art, eat at the best restaurants, get out into nature, and spend time with friends playing music, feasting, and enjoying the good life that the Northwest has to offer. She is pretty into Instagram and would love if you tag the photos of our house with @Emily_Katz and @Goldenruledesign, so we can see what you post! Also our home has a hashtag: #Woodboxpdx
Adam owns his own screenprinting business, he loves the outdoors, can school you on basketball trivia, and loves to eat as much as Emily loves to cook.
We look forward to hosting you and sharing our favorite places with you!
