Intown cottage apartment with deck

Apartment - Entire home/apt · McLendon Ave, Atlanta, GA 30307, United States

The Space

Newly updated freestanding efficiency apartment behind our home in Lake Claire (the quiet neighborhood between Decatur and Candler Park). 400 square feet with a queen size bed, fully equipped kitchen including gas stove, refrigerator, microwave (on request), dishes, pots and pans, glassware, etc, bathroom with small shower and great deck that hovers among the huge oak and pecan trees with private outside seating/dining area. Flat panel cable tv, free WiFi and plenty of on street parking. Little 5 Points is 2 miles west, downtown Decatur is 2 miles east and the East Lake Marta station is an easy 1/4 mile walk away. We love living in this neighborhood because it's the perfect Atlanta location, quiet yet close to great dining, shopping and entertainment.

We have a sweet Australian Cattle Dog/mix, but let us know if you're not a dog person, it's no problem at all keeping her out of the back yard.

  • I stayed 11 days at Jennifer's cottage. It was exactly the way it appears in the photos; I was very comfortable and cozy here. The location of the cottage was really excellent for me: I have a student at Emory and the short drive was convenient and easy. It's also close to Decatur, which has some excellent restaurants, bars, and one-of-a-kind shops. There's less traffic getting to and from Decatur too! (Traffic in Atlanta can be daunting!) I will definitely stay here again!

  • I stayed with Jennifer and Susan for 6 weeks as I looked for and bought a house. They were gracious hosts--very friendly and helpful whenever I needed anything.

I can echo previous reviewers' comments: their apartment is breezy and beautiful, with some vintage furnishing. I loved the decor.

The kitchen is adequate; you can definitely make breakfast/dinner/snacks if you wanted to. They include a small fridge/freezer (small, but much bigger than the dorm room-style mini-fridge) and gas stove. There are several markets and restaurants close by, so I found myself eating out more often than staying in.

The bed was comfortable and Jennifer was willing to switch out the sheets and linens once a week. The wi-fi is strong--I streamed a lot of Netflix during my stay with no problem.

I would reiterate the caution about the shower! It worked great for me if I didn't want to lean down too much (& I'm 5'4"), but I had my 6'3" friend stand in the shower and he didn't fit. It was comical, but if you're a tall person, you'll have trouble showering comfortably.

I loved the deck off of the apartment--it's private from the main house and gets good sun. I enjoyed sitting outside and hearing the birds chirp.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend their cottage!

  • Perfect little place. Light, convenient to little 5 points area and candle park, clean, full thoughtful kitchen. Jennifer and Susan were communicative and available and also gave us our privacy to feel home away from home.

  • I came to Atlanta for a one week work-related trip. I had to be all over the Atlanta metro area, and this rental was perfect for this. I would highly recommend this place for the following reasons:

    1. It's clean, airy, private, and has a nice kitchen that is stocked with more than enough utensils to make basic meals. (I had breakfast and dinner here almost daily). The only thing that may be an issue here for some taller folks is that the shower has a very low, slanted ceiling (however, the water pressure is great).

    2. Jennifer is a great host. I was in ATL for a very rare cold snap, and they kindly offered extra blankets, clothes, and a room in their house if it got too cold (I was fine). I also needed to borrow a computer keyboard (mine broke), and they lent me one. They also have a dog, but they are very aware that not everyone is a dog person, so if you're not, don't worry!

    3. Location. On a very pleasant, quiet street 20 mins from the airport, around the corner from the MARTA train (which is awesome-- don't drive in to the city!), and very close to the various major highways. There is also a Snap Fitness gym 2 miles away, and cute little town square with a market, etc.

I would definitely stay here again!

  • The intown cottage was perfect for us while we visited our daughter for New Years. The bed was so comfortable and the location was perfect. At 6'2", Ed did find the shower a challenge, but we will be back for other visits.

  • Jennifer and Susan are lovely hosts. The cottage feels so light and cozy. Jennifer has a great eye for furniture and decor . I really enjoyed staying here and getting to know the Lake Claire neighborhood. The East Lake station is only two blocks away which makes it easy to get into Atlanta or out to Decatur but there are several restaurants nearby.

  • My in-laws came to visit us for 4 days and this place was the perfect stay for them! It was great having them close by to our house and they liked having their own little "home away from home." They were able to cook their own breakfast and enjoy coffee every morning before meeting us. Jennifer & Susan were great hosts, with a clean and quaint unit and providing them with everything they needed. If you're looking for a place in-town and close to MARTA and Candler park then this is a great place to stay!
We will definitely recommend this for friends and family visiting in the future.

  • Jennifer and Susan were fantastic people to rent through. The place is exactly like it was made out to be on the listing and I couldn't have asked for a better apartment. They were more than happy to work with me when another listing didn't work out and I needed to move in on such short notice. If I had any questions they were always around or reachable via text or just a phone call away. The apartment was decorated so cute and had anything I could have possibly needed during my month stay. I was able to cook for myself using all of the kitchen supplies which was fantastic due to the long length of my stay, and the bed was even better then the one I have at home :) I had a tendency to work late but was able to park right in front of the home and have a well-lit walk back to the apartment, which was a relief every evening. The drive to anything I could have needed was always less than ten minutes. Having Candler park AND my favorite pizza place a mile walk down the road was my favorite part. The apartment became my home away from home, and they helped my transition from Indiana living to the big city life smooth and memorable. I will always be grateful for their hospitality and look forward to staying again.

  • I loved my stay in Atlanta, and Jenifer and Susan's apartment was snug, cozy, comfortable and very private. Both of them were friendly, gracious, charming and attentive to my needs. I was there for 4 weeks, while scouting out the area for relocation purposes. My son came down the last week of my stay, and they set up a blow-up bed for him and linens, etc.
During a part of my time there I was attending a wellness clinic and went through a physical cleansing process. It was great to have the kitchen to prepare the juices and foods I needed to make in following the program. They even lent me a blender after the program ended so I could continue following my new diet. (I did the clam chowder prior to the program and gave it to Jennifer because I was unable to have it - and am happy she liked it.)
The location was convenient for getting to all parts of the city proper in addition to its proximity to the northern suburbs where I was looking for my relocation.
This trip resulted in my resolve to move to the area, and the next time I do come down it will be to look for my own housing and would definitely consider staying in Jennifer and Susan's apartment if it is available.

  • We loved staying at Jennifer's guesthouse. Quiet neighborhood, stately trees, beautiful backyard. A deck on which we drank coffee and breakfasted on biscuits and grits from nearby Flying Biscuit -- and watched thrashers and warblers. Oh, and huge thick towels. If we're in Atlanta again, we'll be back.
