About this listing
The Old Carrabelle Hotel is a completely renovated historic home one block from scenic Carrabelle Harbor. Decorated in airy "Key West" style, it features over 120 feet of outdoor verandas with views, is within easy walking distance to all harbor activities and five minutes from the beach. Sea birds, dolphins and other wildlife add natural interest to this breathtakingly beautiful area. (Important note: the $67 rate shown is our lowest room rate without tax. Range is up to $107 plus tax)
The picturesque village of Carrabelle lies approximately one hour southwest of Tallahassee. Our completely renovated 120-year old home is near the center of this gentle coastal town, only a block from the harbor.
Start your day with a made-to-order restaurant breakfast at Carrabelle beach, then to eco-exploration of water and forest. Many outdoor activities abound: from sportfishing, sailing and island-hopping to soaking up abundant sunshine on our sugar-sand beaches or paddling along a quiet river, there is something memorable for all on the lovely Forgotten Coast.
Like golf? St. James Bay is a PGA-caliber Audobon-certified public course, minutes from the Hotel. Like seafood? Every restaurant in town and within a short drive in both directions features seafood as well as other choices. Like chilling? That's what we do best!
Cool green hues accent this whimsical queen bedroom, with its tiled bath built out on what was once part of the porch. Wood tones, bird prints and comfy bedlinens complete your trip into our own nature preserve where seabirds quietly pass their days.
Rates: $ 87/77- depends on season*
The Hotel is really an old 5-bedroom house, with wraparound porches on 2 levels, an open courtyard and covered cabana deck with wet bar and BBQ grill. Of course, the first floor rooms: Monkey Bar, living and dining room are available -- many guests like to set up the old laptop or tablet (or whatever you call it this week) on the dining room table in peace and quiet and nice south light.
Interaction with Guests
Hopefully you will like the fact that we don't feel that we have to become your new "best friends". We are here to provide you a comfortable, relaxing squeaky-clean stay in a beautiful coastal environment. We are available if you need anything.
Although we laughingly call our location "downtown", we are a block away from coastal Highway 98 which runs along the harbor. All shops in the downtown area are within a 2-block walk.
We have good sidewalk coverage of nearby places, and the Hotel is right on the best health walk-along-the-harbor route in town. All parking is free, and the new city parking lot (lights on all night) is right across the street. And don't forget--no traffic lights within 27 miles!
Other Things to Note
Copies of the Guide to the Big Bend Scenic Byway are in each room or downstairs. You may also see and download the 'pdf' on their website. A great travel info guide for the Forgotten Coast.
The Hotel is a circa 1900 building, built well but to old standards. No insulation, for instance, so we ask that all guests follow reasonable noise control practices.
All systems are 21st century, so your stay will be comfortable.
We discourage children under 12, because there are no special activity areas for them, and we are not child-proof.
A dog is welcome, but not his fleas, climbing on furniture or barking.
The Old Carabelle Hotel is a great place to stay. We had the Regatta room which was very clean and lovely. The breakfast is served at the "Two Al's", which is a small Beach-restaurant and offers great pancakes! We loved the Old Carabelle Hotel because it's a cozy spot to relax and enjoy the beaches of the Forgotten Coast. Skip is a very helpful host and did everything for us having a great time.
Google Translate is a funny thing to use!
Here is their translation: "The Old Carabelle Hotel is dressed beautifully. With great attention to detail, the Fur Seal Skip cares about his guests and the room. The maritime atmosphere blends perfectly with the whole place and the great beaches of the Forgotten Coast. Although Carabelle is not on the main routes of Florida tourists, it is worth stopping for a couple of relaxing days at the beach is worth definitely! Who will be eating fresh fish or shrimp, this pearl not to be missed!"
We can't explain the Fur Seal, especially here in Florida, but will point out that the "Fisch oder Shrimps" has nothing to do with seaside smells!
A sincere thank you-- to the Bocks and all our European and other international guests for the distances they travel to enjoy what we have here!
My husband & I gave my parents a little getaway to show our thanks & appreciation for helping w/ our move from CO to OH. They thoroughly enjoyed their much needed time away. They thought the room was very cute & comfy!
The Old Carrabelle Hotel was a welcomed space to land as I explored the beautiful setting of Florida's Forgotten Coast. The inn was welcoming and charming as were the hosts Skip and Kathy. Generous bedding, bath and interesting furniture, art and garden. I will return and stand ready to recommend for any traveler looking for something that blends with the surrounding beauty of this part of Florida.
Also want to add that the meals at 2 Als Cafe, compliments of the hotel, were delicious and generous and kept me coming back for more. Al packed a lunch for me to carry to the beach one day that brought me great pleasure. These folks at the Old Carrabelle Hotel and 2 Als Cafe know what they are doing. They all made my stay gracious and fulfilling.
Our new friend Mr. Thomas helped us solve a Hotel mystery mentioned in the review just previous.
The "singing" pipes, we now think, are a result of our 2013 energy-efficient washing machine that has a Warp Speed spin cycle. It seems to set up a harmonic vibration that gets pretty musical. We'll just have to make sure to do the laundry in the middle of the day!
This is a hidden gem... REALLY! I loved hearing the pipes in the bathroom "sing" each use, sounded like a ships pipe. Skip and Kathy are very nice. Kathy's brother runs one of the local eateries and he is nice too. My only regret is I didn't have more time. Definitely on my list of places to revisit.
The mysteries of a 113-year old building never cease. Honestly, we haven't heard of the singing pipes before, but that's a concert we'll have to check out!
In 2001 we replaced every inch of plumbing in the house with PVC, along with the new fixtures. Now we need a tuner.
The Old Carrabelle Inn (Flamingo Room), is a quaint room, with a big ol' bathroom, in a big ol' house! We arrived after dark, but easily entered the building as skip and Kathy had everything organized for us. We settled into our room and went down to the living room where we met some of the other guests. They were very pleasant and we were able to strike up conversation with returning patrons to get a feel for the lay of the land. Just like others have stated, the house is old, without insulation in interior walls, so just remember, this is not your party place. We met Skip and Kathy in the morning on our way to breakfast and had a wonderful exchange. Lovely folks! Would definitely Airbnb back to the Old Carrabelle Inn! Thanks Skip and Kathy!

We instituted and maintain the Key West style of the Hotel because we loved the old tropical "Wild West" ambience of the island, its architecture, landscaping and its casual atmosphere. And Carrabelle these days has much of that flavor, at a much lower price.
If you like casual and natural, this may be your favorite spot!
