About this listing
This wonderful home can be called "a mountain retreat". It has a large salt water swimming pool with panoramic views. A big up stairs dorm perfect for groups or families. We're within 42 acres of beautiful wilderness up in the mountains of Saint Helna and located near two lakes, Lake Hennessey and Lake Berryessa which have great hiking trails, fishing and boating. Of course plenty of wineries. A couple of which are no further than 3 to 5 miles.
We provide coffee with "continental" breakfast which is cereal and fruit when available.
The Loft is on the second floor of the barn, a separate building from the house. It has its own bathroom which, is shared if we have guests at the Treehouse. We use the first floor of the barn as our art studio. We have 2 friendly dogs who are happy to have visitors. We are also willing to have well behaved and socialized dogs here. As long as you are responsible for your own pooches. An additional fee of $20.00 per dog, per night will be required. This is the country so there is not an inclosed yard.
We realize a barn in the mountains of St. Helena is not for everybody. We're in the middle of may acres of wilderness and there are creatures around so, if you're uncomfortable encountering spiders, bugs, lizards, frogs, bats, very rare but, occasional snake, etc., spending the night in the second story of a barn or a treehouse may not be the best choice. All the water in the property comes form a well so it has a lot of minerals, including sulfur. If you are uncomfortable with well water, sulfur smell or the drought, please do not come to spend the night in the countryside.
We started bee hives on the property which is a common and generally harmless farm activity but, if you are allergic to them, it is certainly a consideration that needs to be done.
During long holiday weekends when we have a high demand for the space, we'll give preference to larger groups for more than one night rather than individuals or single nights. Since the space sleeps up to 8 people comfortably and we only rent it to one group at the time.
We are 15 miles (about 1/2 hr. drive) from down town St. Helena which has wonderful shops and restaurants. Napa is 20 to 25 miles depending on which way you go (30 to 45 minutes drive).
There are also some wonderful small wineries nearby, for a great personal experience we recommend checking them out. Some do require an appointment on weekdays.
Please consider we have no cell phone reception and limited internet access. So it a great place to unplug for a change!
If you get here when we're not home, please get settled, enjoy the pool area and the rest of the grounds. The bathroom is on the second floor of the barn at the Loft and there is cold water, cups, milk and sugar for the morning in the refrigerator at the bottom floor of the barn. Coffee and cereal will be set up at the bottom of the stairs.
We have guests staying at the "Treehouse" so, please be considerate in keeping the bathroom tidy and manage light switches and noise late at night or early morning. (Remember the bathroom shared)
It's dark here at night. We'll leave some night lights on. There are hooks for your towels in the wall outside the bathroom. Please take some time to read and follow our house rules regarding the bathroom. (Wipe the shower glass with “squeeye”, only very little toilet paper in the compost low flow toilet, pedal up fills the bowl, pedal down flush it down, do not hold the pedal to let a lot of water down it overflows the tank, keep the seat down, use the fan, etc.)
The light switches for the bottom floor of the barn are next to the door on the right side of the building, as you're facing it from the front. The last row is on a timer so that you can go upstairs and not have to go back to turn it off. The light switch for the top floor is on the left, next to the window at the end of the stairs as you walk up.
There are extra blankets and pillows, with your towels on the bench next to the big bed. Please do not disturb any of the other beds you are not going to sleep on.
If you hear walking around late at night and see flashlight beams, it's us checking for deer before letting the dogs out for the last time before bed.
Please remember you're visiting a home, not a hotel.
No check in after 9 pm unless previously agreed.
We do this not only because we work and need our sleep but also because it is a curvy mountain road and it's best traveling up here in daylight.
We do not allow smoking. We live in a very dry wooded area so, fires are a major danger.
We have a septic and a compost system so please be kind to it and don't throw anything in the toilet (other than toilet paper) or down the drain. Always use the fan when in the bathroom and shower and keep the lid down on the toilet.
Only very little toilet paper in the compost low flow toilet, pedal up fills the bowl, pedal down flush it down, do not hold the pedal to let a lot of water down it overflows the tank below.
We recycle the gray water from the sink and shower so, please only use biodegradable soaps and shampoos which we provide.
Please "squeegee" the shower glass after you're done. It is a small bathroom so please hang your towels out on the hooks in the loft.
The Bathroom in the loft is shared with the tree house if we have guests in both places. Please be considerate of our other guests and keep it tidy. Use the curtain in the loft if you would like more privacy.
We are pet friendly and welcome well behaved socialized doggies as long as you are responsible for them at all times. This is a large unfenced property with lots of wild life around so please keep an eye on your pets. There is an additional $20 fee per dog, per night.
We do not receive young children as guests. Sorry, too many potential liabilities with the pool, the dogs and many acres of open wilderness with a wide range of wildlife.
The fee for the loft is $70 per person per night. If you would like to bring additional guest please let us know and we can alter your reservation though AirBNB. We prefer all additional charges like extra guests, and dogs be done in advance and though AirBNB. We used to hold a reservation for less people and then ask for cash upon arrival for any additional guests but, unfortunately we've been burnt more than once by doing that and the sour after taste of the unpleasant experiences, however few indeed, lasts for a long time. So, You'll have to make your reservation through AirBNB for the maximum number of guests and nights you could anticipate. We want to avoid last minute, once here and after stay financial negotiations as much as possible.
We do not receive "day guests" or "guests of guests". If you are at our property means you are a paid guest.
No kitchen or laundry use is included. This means no cooking, weather you bring your own grill or camp stove. You are not staying on a campground. There is a refrigerator available in the barn for drinks or snacks and that's fine.
Please don't leave food or drinks laying around unattended, there are mice, bugs and other creatures attracted to that. Remember it's a barn or a treehouse in open wilderness.
Please remember to check out at noon, specially if we have other guests coming.
If you have any questions please email us though AirBNB it is too hard to keep track with my private email.
Please keep in mind that there is no cell phone service up here, we ask that all our guests review the house rules and manual before their arrival. And please PRINT your directions and gate code. Gps is not always reliable and cell phones don't work up in the mountains.
Please enjoy the pool and the outside areas. Let us know if you need anything and most of all enjoy your visit!

Wendi and Carlos were great hosts! Their communication was clear before arrival, which was appreciated considering the slightly challenging drive without reception.
The space itself was awesome--very creatively crafted. All 8 of us were comfortable, despite the heat. The pool area is gorgeous and relaxing.
The only note is that the water really isn't very appealing from the sink/shower. It is listed in the description, so we were expecting it. But I will say that we didn't feel very clean after using the shower/washing face in the sink.
Overall I would definitely recommend this listing.
Thank you, Wendi and Carlos!
We LOVED our stay in St. Helena. The pool was fantastic and we had a chance to enjoy all of our wine purchases in Napa! Beautiful location nestled in the mountains, we would 100% stay again!
So sad that we were not able to stay a long time here. We were only here for one night for a wedding. The little time we were able to spend there was amazing. The barn was clean and comfortable, not your typical barn, and the tree house was beautiful. The tree house is situated in such a way that you feel complelty secluded, even though you are 200ft away from the barn. Views were amazing. At night you can see so many stars, perks of being away from the city. We were able to use the pool briefly. Super nice pool with nice views. I love salt water pools. Wendi and Carlos were nice and super helpful. They helped us pick a restaurant on the way out and we had a nice conversation by the pool. Their dogs were very friendly. Overall the whole group (8ppl) want to come back again, but spend at least 3 nights there. Thank you Wendi and Carlos for making us feel at home.
The loft was very nice. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The directions were easy to follow and they had both coffee and cereal set up for us in the morning. There also was a refrigerator that we could put snacks in. I loved the pool and the quiet of the night. The stars at night were fabulous. I will definitely be back. Thank you Wendy and Carlos for your hospitality. Laurie
Wendi and Carlos are both incredibly sweet and kind people. They made me feel welcome in their home which is incidentally, in an incredibly beautiful location. Highly recommended!!
This place was gorgeous! Perfect place to enjoy a weekend away with friends. Wendi and Carlos were amazing hosts. I would definitely recommend.
Cute loft. We had a great time staying overnight with Wendi and Carlos and meeting their friendly pups! Gorgeous pool and views. The loft was comfortable overnight and bathroom was clean. There is a bit of a sulphur smell but our party didn't think it was an issue at all.
We'd happily stay there again and had no issues finding the home on the windy road. We were glad to have checked in with Carlos and arrived during daylight hours, however, and would recommend anyone else staying here to do the same.
