The Space

This wonderful home can be called "a mountain retreat". It has a large salt water swimming pool with panoramic views. A big up stairs dorm perfect for groups or families. We're within 42 acres of beautiful wilderness up in the mountains of Saint Helna and located near two lakes, Lake Hennessey and Lake Berryessa which have great hiking trails, fishing and boating. Of course plenty of wineries. A couple of which are no further than 3 to 5 miles.

We provide coffee with "continental" breakfast which is cereal and fruit when available.

The Loft is on the second floor of the barn, a separate building from the house. It has its own bathroom which, is shared if we have guests at the Treehouse. We use the first floor of the barn as our art studio. We have 2 friendly dogs who are happy to have visitors. We are also willing to have well behaved and socialized dogs here. As long as you are responsible for your own pooches. An additional fee of $20.00 per dog, per night will be required. This is the country so there is not an inclosed yard.

We realize a barn in the mountains of St. Helena is not for everybody. We're in the middle of may acres of wilderness and there are creatures around so, if you're uncomfortable encountering spiders, bugs, lizards, frogs, bats, very rare but, occasional snake, etc., spending the night in the second story of a barn or a treehouse may not be the best choice.

We started bee hives on the property which is a common and generally harmless farm activity but, if you are allergic to them, it is certainly a consideration that needs to be done.

During long holiday weekends when we have a high demand for the space, we'll give preference to larger groups for more than one night rather than individuals or single nights. Since the space sleeps up to 8 people comfortably and we only rent it to one group at the time.

We are 15 miles (about 1/2 hr. drive) from down town St. Helena which has wonderful shops and restaurants.

There are also some wonderful small wineries nearby, for a great personal experience we recommend checking them out. Some do require an appointment on weekdays.

Please consider we have no cell phone reception and limited internet access. So it a great place to unplug for a change!

  • Wendi and Carlos are my kind of people. Salt to the earth, friendly, and animal lovers. Their loft is super clean, original, artsy, and has a great vibe. I loved the remote location, fresh air, and my stress melted into their gorgeous pool water. Yes, there are critters and dogs but I love that kind of thing. I will be back for sure. Total gem. Loved it!

  • We had a great time this weekend and left completely relaxed. I think Wendi and Carlos do a great job in "preparing" guests for what to expect, the place really feels off the grid. Wendi and Carlos are great hosts and really make you feel welcome. Thanks for sharing your home!!

  • We didn't get to meet Wendi but Carlos was great and really friendly. The loft (above the barn) definitely cooled off at night and with the windows open gave us a wonderful breeze. This place is great if you are looking for something off the grid for the night and want a break form a typical hotel stay.

  • This listing is off the beaten path near Napa Valley, close to Lake Berryessa. My friends and I were participating in a Lake Berryessa swim race, so this was an ideal location for us to get some rest close to the race site and avoid a long drive from the Bay Area on the morning of the swim.

The property has a rustic charm and a beautiful pool. The beds are comfortable and the loft area above the barn can accommodate big groups. Be aware that the peace and serenity afforded by the remote locale might not be for everyone, and this place is not a "fancy" wine country venue. I personally love hearing the crickets and seeing the stars at night, but the host Carlos told us a couple funny stories about other guests being caught off guard by the setting.

Loved having Cheerios and other cereal set out for us in the morning. Nice touch!

  • Wendi and Carlos are excellent hosts with great communication and a beautiful, serene property. The salt water pool is refreshing and leaves no icky residue on my skin, like chlorine pools normally do. Mr. Big and Gus are also great hosts - Gus would come to the edge of the pool and make sure I was ok. In the evening all I hear is the peaceful sound of crickets and when I look up, a plain of stars.

    Would love to return again!

  • Wendi & Carlos were fantastic and welcoming hosts, great people to chat with too! The property is gorgeous and inspiring, very peaceful and comfortable in a remote area far enough to feel like you can "get away from it all". They also have two of the sweetest dogs, Mr. Bigs and Gus! The loft itself was very spacious, creatively designed, and very clean. Everything was as expected, even the smell of the well water. My friend Nicole and I have no drawbacks during the stay, and thoroughly enjoyed the warm experience and even already discussed staying again soon. We will definitely be recommending this spot to our other friends and any one who plans on visiting wine country.

  • Wendy and Carlos were very nice hosts. Their home is about 20 mins drive into the mountains and thus secluded and situated among idyllic nature. We loved the views and their pets! The loft was very nice, we had lots of room up there and the beds were very comfortable. The only drawbacks were the aroma of the well water in the bathroom and if you are a larger group it might feel a little bit like a hostel since all the beds are in one room.
As stated there is no cell phone reception and very little wifi, so look forward to "shutting off" up there as they say :)

  • The Hosts were very kind and understanding , as I had to re-direct my drive as 128 was not active as road work had blocked using the road.
    Warm hosts.

Enjoyed the dorm and property as it was just what I was looking for.

Hosts has great suggestions and were easy to spend some time chatting with and gave a good deal of space as well.

Carlos and I are warm and friendly hosts and also artists. We make ceramic pottery and sculpture. We also have day jobs too so we are often busy. We have lived here in St. Helena for a year now and have made friends with our neighbors who have wineries nearby. Carlos is from Mexico city and speaks fluent Spanish. I speak a little Spanish too.
