New Mills Central station is approximately a 20 minute walk either through the town or beside the river on the footpath that runs through the gorge. New Mills Newtown station is a bit further, being situated about one mile from here. There are regular train and/or bus services from New Mills to Stockport, Manchester, Manchester Airport, Buxton and Sheffield. It is 16 miles to Manchester which takes around half an hour on the train. The 199 Skyline bus runs every half hour during the day between Manchester Airport and New Mills Newtown and the bus journey takes about 1 hour. When you first arrive I am usually able to meet you at a local bus stop or one of the New Mills train stations. If you come by car you may park on the road or hard standing in front of the house.
NEW MILLS - AN UNDISCOVERED GEM.
The house is near to open countryside and a good base for walking and cycling in the Peak District as well as exploring the towns and villages of the Manchester area. Lyme Park is not far away. New Mills straddles a narrow gorge which is of interest to geologists, climbers and walkers alike. The Millenium Walkway built high over the river enables the footpath to follow the full length of the gorge. Where the rivers Sett and Goyt meet is an Archimedes screw working in reverse to generate electricity for local business. There is a picnic area beside the screw.
The Peak Forest Canal runs along the edge of town and you can follow the canal towpath to Marple where a flight of 15 locks elevates the canal 210 feet from the Cheshire plain towards the High Peak after crossing 100 feet above the Goyt on a magnificent stone aqueduct.
A nice large bedroom En -suite. Host very friendly and helpful . Neighbourhood was quite quiet.
Hilary was an excellent and friendly host, I immediately felt welcomed and at home as soon as I arrived. The room was lovely, spacious and clean with all the facilities you could need; I would not hesitate to stay with her again.
Hilary was an absolute delight to stay with. She was so sweet. She made breakfast for us each day. She picked us up from our bus stop, offered to drive us to the other side of town, she drove us to the train station as well. She was so helpful and kind. Gave us tips on where to go. The house was beautiful and clean. Absolutely beautiful stay. I would go back just for Hilary! Although, New Mills is beautiful also. :-) highly recommend it.
Hilary is an exemplary host. Throughout our 4 night stay she was friendly, approachable and extremely helpful, going our of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable and convenient on more than one occasion. Her breakfasts were great, plenty of choice and very generous, good value. Room and en-suite spotless, comfortable and warm. It was clear to both of us that Hilary cares about her guests and their comfort. Would visit again without hesitation, thank you Hilary!
Hilary is a very warm ad welcoming host who made sure out stay was a pleasant one. Hilary was helpful regarding the local amenities was on hand when we had questions.
Our room was nice and light and was perfect for my wife and I and our 14 week old baby.
We would certainly use Hilary again when visiting the Peak District.
Hillary is in the top of the air BNB we have known during our five weeks trip in the UK.... Her room is big, clear, clean, with excellent bed and pillows. The ensuite bathroom is very clear too and has an electric heater for the towels. The bedroom contains a fridge and Hillary took care to welcome us with fruits, snacks, bottled milk....in it. There is also a flat screen tv, wifi, a safe, an ironing board with the iron, books and lealets and maps , even ordonnance survey maps to meet every possible needs of her guests.
Furthermore, in the morning, we had the suprise to be served an excellent traditionnal english breakfast, the best we've ever had in airBNBs. So, not only, we recommand her airBNB but we think her booking price is not expansive enough considering all the services she provides.
Hilary was a lovely person to stay with, very thoughtful in the room amenities, friendly and a great hostess. The room was comfortable and very clean. We would stay with her again!
Staying at Hilary was a wonderful experience, a quiet and clean english home, tasty breakfast and amazing surroundings.
Thank you Hilary !
During a walking holiday we stayed one night at Hilary's place. We had a very comfortable stay. The room is very spacious (much more space than you get in a regular BnB or hotel room), with a good en-suite bathroom. Hilary is very friendly and we felt at home straightaway. She pointed us to a great country side pub (The Pack Horse Inn), which we would not have found otherwise and also she went the extra mile and provided us with a lovely cooked breakfast, setting us up for the hike across Kinder Scout to Edale! Great experience all the way - I can certainly recommend a stay at Hilary's!
Hilary is very welcoming host. Our room was wonderful and a perfect place to rest after a day in the peak district. Hilary suggested a very good and local pub and had all the maps already prepared. Overall it was one of my nicest Air B&B experiences.
