Our log home is new, comfortable, and exciting but also cozy and remote. It is on a West Virginia mountain in the midst of a wild and wonderful natural world with mountain springs, streams, wildflowers, and deer. From the house, you can see intense colors of fall leaves, lichen and snow on branches in winter, and 360 degree green in spring and summer. It has comforts of 21st century living - wireless 4G Internet, flat screen satellite TVs, DVD players, French door refrigerator, front loader washer and dryer, six-person hot tub. Hike and explore the cliffs and forest along old logging roads near the house and then come back to a connected and comfortable world inside. At night, you can sit in a steaming hot tub on the screened porch and see tree leaves outside fluttering on the under-lit towering cliff rocks or from the large open top deck, watch the moon rise through the trees and stars come out overhead. Only three miles by car from the house, explore trails and streams, golf at a challenging championship golf course at 2300 feet, designed by golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Sr., ride horses, swim in a lake in summer, or enjoy a delicious breakfast or dinner at Cacapon State Park. Within twenty minutes, visit local artists, shop, and enjoy a spa treatment or massage in Berkeley Springs. Within forty minutes, shop at national-chain store in Winchester or an outlet mall in Hagerstown. Within an hour, downhill or cross-country ski, snow tube, or go fly fishing at Whitetail Resort ((website hidden)) or whitewater rafting/tubing, and river paddling at Harper's Ferry, Paw Paw, Sideling Hill Creek, and other locations ((website hidden)). The log house has two bedrooms on the main floor, both with double beds and a shared bathroom with a tub. It has two bedrooms on the top floor, one large with a King bed, and the other with two twin beds, with a shared shower bathroom. On the lower level, a smaller queen-futon bedroom with a view of the 42-inch wall-mounted TV in the adjoining rec room and foldout couch entertainment area with half-bath. The house comfortably sleeps eight. The great-room area on the main level has a large, forest green leather sectional sofa, flat-screen TV, and wood stove that heats most of the house in the winter along with electric heat throughout the house and lower level radiant-heat floors. The house has AC for the summer and a garage with plenty of additional driveway parking. The kitchen has a dishwasher, coffeemaker, Cuisinart food processor, electric oven and stove, and a range of useful and fun implements for cooking, for example a food mill, cookie sheets, Bundt cake pans, cast iron skillets, and Revereware in a range of sizes. Towels and bedding are provided. We also provide tents and four sleeping bags if you want to camp-out on our wooded 20 acres or around the fire pit near the house. Our log mountain home is a beautiful place to be part of wild and wonderful nature easily and quickly away from the noise, crowds, and commotion of city and suburban life but with the comfort and conveniences of modern life.
Directions: 230 Breakaway Lane, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411:
From the north (PA Turnpike/I70) watch for “Ridge” on a green sign about three miles south of Cacapon State Park as you drive on Rt. 522 about 9 miles south from Berkeley Springs, WV 25411. As soon as you see the sign, signal, slow down, and then turn right into a gravel parking area. At the north end past the mailboxes, follow the Breakneck Dr. gravel road up the mountain. Three times you’ll have to keep right or turn right. The gravel road is single lane and narrow, so please be slow and cautious. The last right onto Breakaway Lane comes soon after Breakeven Lane. As you go down the hill and then curve up the J-shaped Breakaway Lane, you’ll see the log cabin mountain house through the trees on the right side of the gravel road. The house number "230" is on a big rock on the right side of the road just after the red reflectors marking the driveway entrance.

BEAUTIFUL and WONDERFUL! This is a beautiful property and Susan was a wonderful host. We used the property for a weekend writer's retreat. With 8 beds and many tables and desks we all had a "space of our own" to think, relax, and write with lovely Berkeley Springs as our backdrop. The home far exceeded our expectations! A fully stocked kitchen, amenities such as wifi/cable, great views and hiking were the icing on the cake! Great place, Great host. We hope to do it again soon.
Susan and her husband were wonderful hosts. They stocked the house to perfection - anything we could want or need was there - including breakfast items and chocolates in the candy dish. Everything was very comfortable and clean. Great visit - would definitely stay again!
Wonderful cabin! A great getaway from busy DC!
The cabin was isolated, well appointed, and well stocked. Susan was easy to get a hold of...but respected our privacy and never felt the need to pop in or meet face to face as some might. Upon arrival we started a fire, brought the hot tub up to temp and began cooking up a storm. Milk, butter, bread, oj, eggs, fresh fruit, and about 50 other things were stocked in the fridge and pantry. Everything from soy sauce to bisquick. Some of this is left by other guests...some made available by Susan. If your lucky you'll get some of the homemade muffins that were amazing. My advice is to go to the cabin...see what's in the fridge and pantry...and then go to the food lion which is maybe 10 minutes down the main road. Monopoly, Life, Clue, quite a few books, toiletries, sewing kit...she thought of everything...and I'm sure the place gets better with each guest. We left behind a few books and couple more items in the fridge and pantry. Love Susan and love this cabin...think we found a real secret and we'll be back for sure.

Great experience- would highly recommend.
Thank you Susan for sharing your fabulous home with us. Arthur and I had a wonderfully romantic 3 day holiday in your beautiful log cabin in the woods. Everything was perfect! Your instructions for accessing the house, using the hot tub, splitting wood and setting up the wifi were clear and effective. Your generous breakfast fixings were a real treat. The king size bed was beyond comfortable, the hot tub was a dream to soak in following a hike at nearby Cacapon state park and the wood burning stove a dream to sit by - we even roasted marshmallows! The kitchen was well stocked and I loved the surrounding snow covered forest and rocks. Arthur and I really appreciate the effort you clearly make to create a warm and inviting environment for your guests. We plan to return and enjoy your home in all 4 seasons!! Susan's home is the best home Arthur and I have stayed in with Airbnb. Good job Susan and thanks again! Cynthia & Arthur
It was so fun staying at Susan's cabin this weekend in Berkeley Springs. Susan was an amazing host and left us all kinds of things for breakfast and snacks and the cabinets were well stocked with supplies for cooking and eating. We enjoyed hanging out by the wood-burning stove for most of the weekend and dogs had a great time romping around in the snow around the property. The house easily accommodate eight or 10 people looking for a relaxing weekend away. Susan even made sure that the hot tub would be up and running by the time we got there and it was absolutely perfect we can't wait to come back in the spring and enjoy hiking around the property! Susan's cabin in Berkeley Springs is absolutely the perfect place to go for a weekend with friends! She has everything you need, including extra snow shoes, games, books, and even archery equipment. Sheets and towels are provided too, freshly cleaned. Thank you Susan for being an outstanding host, we can't wait to come again to wild and wonderful WVa!
Amazing house! Susan was amazingly attentive! All in all, a great stay and we hope to make it back to Berkeley Springs soon!
My 10 friends and I had fabulous fun at Susan's stunning log cabin in Berkeley Springs, WV. The home has every amenity you could need; It is expertly stocked with dishes and bakeware, pillows and blankets, toiletries, and Susan even left us some delicious baked goods and breakfast items! We really enjoyed the hot tub, which was left nice and hot for us for when we arrived. My friends lit the wood oven stove every day. It was a rainy weekend, so we couldn't really use the fire pit, but really wished we could have! The surroundings of the house are gorgeous and picturesque; We can't wait to come back!
Goodness... the cabin was wonderful! There were 5 people in our group as well as a toddler and small dog. The kitchen was more than well stocked with food, pots/pans, etc. The rooms had clean sheets, linens, toiletries, etc. We were lucky to have some snow, which made for a gorgeous view. Group favorites included the hot tub and fun with archery! Susan was a fantastic and super courteous host who went above and beyond... she even kept us posted on the weather for our drive, which was kind. We're already daydreaming about our next trip back!
