The Space

Room for rent in classical Tuscan stone farmhouse in the countryside of Chianti, 2km outside of Barberino Val d'Elsa.

The private room is on the upper floor and can accommodate 2 people. (There are two twin beds that can be joined together or kept separate). It has tile floors, thick walls, and traditional wooden shutters on the window overlooking the forest and hills. Your own large, private bathroom with double sinks and a jacuzzi bathtub and shower is just outside the bedroom.

The house is a classic Tuscan stone farmhouse built in 17° century and completely renewed in 2000, with a fireplace and wooden antique furniture, and high ceilings with large oak beams. There is a patio overlooking the garden and the surrounding hills with a large table and umbrella (if it's warm) where you can enjoy your coffee or a glass of wine. This is a very peaceful place. In the morning, the birds sing; in the evening you may see wild deer or boar along the edge of the forest; and at night you can see many stars. You can walk up the road and enjoy the beauty of the Tuscan countryside, and just down the hill you can access a lovely trail through the woods and walk for several miles. It's an excellent place for birding, with upupa and several types of hawks and owls.

You'll be sharing the home with us, an Italian family with two teenagers, a friendly yellow Labrador named Margot, and several farm cats that mostly live outside. Patrizia is a jewelry maker with a shop in San Gimignano, and Paolo is owner of an ad agency in Firenze. Our daughter Premal plays cello in the youth orchestra in Siena, and our son Manu is a whiz with motorbikes. We all speak English.

We offer warm hospitality that is also respectful of your needs and privacy. We can provide coffee and tea for your room or you can use our kitchen with a small additional fee.

The closest village, Barberino Val d'Elsa, is just a five minute drive away. It has a bakery, shop with an English and German-language newspapers, wine store and tasting room, grocery store, restaurants, and some of the best pizza in the region. Barberino Val d'Elsa is centrally located between florence and siena, with Certaldo, Volterra and San Gimignano about 30-40 minutes by car.

Excellent horse riding (trail riding, dressage, or jumping) is available nearby as well as plenty of hiking and bike trails.
Hot mineral baths with spa services are only 45min away.
Many great restaurants and wine tasting opportunities are also nearby.

  • I made arrangements to stay in Chianti for four days with Paolo and Patrizia as a customer, but left feeling like a member of the family. From the first minute I came to the house I was greeted with warm smiles, a wine and great conversation. I was told about the area, where to go, where to eat and maps. The whole family went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and created a constant smile on my face for four days. The room was exactly as described, and more. Very spacious, comfortable bed with more than enough room to not feel cramped. The bathroom was the same way. The breakfast was perfect as well. Just enough to get me going until lunch. :)

I enjoyed staying here so much more than any hotel. The company was fantastic, the room was amazing and the location could not be any better. I honestly did not want to leave. I hope to see my friends again very soon. Thanks again Paolo, Patrizia, Manu and Premal.

  • Paolo and Patrizia (and their two children) were amazing hosts for us: very welcoming, very generous and very kind. The house is lovely - I loved the lavender guest room - and the countryside views were idyllic. The whole place is very peaceful. It was great talking to the family and understanding more about the Tuscan way of life. They also had good recommendations on what to do in the area and in Florence for the next part of our journey. Thanks for a great time!

  • We had three great days at Patrizia's and Paolo's home.
The room is very cosy and the whole house and garden are beautiful. The house is located in the small place near Siena and that's perfect to explore whole Tuscany. Patrizia, Paolo and their children are great hosts and we would recommend their place to everyone!

  • Paulo and Patrizia and their children are very warm and welcoming people and they bring their guests into what is very much a family home... They made my son and I very comfortable and obviously enjoy having contact with people from around the world. They also made a significant effort to assist us on our short trip to Chianti (where it would have been more practical to have our own transport rather than rely on trains and busses)... They are very genuine people and we loved our stay with them . I would be very happy to return for a longer stay in the future.

  • I remember already the first time when I was browsing for a place in Tuscany, and I have seen "Your room in Chianti" I have had a special feeling .... and it turned out so right! Staying at Patrizia and Paolo was for us as well a highlight of our 9 days trip in Tuscany and Umbria! If you have ever met nice, warm-hearted, generous, and caring people, if you have ever seen an amazing home with beatiful interior design and the finest touch in every little aspect, if you have ever felt at home (email hidden) the instant you stepped in, then try to multiply this feeling and maybe then your expectations will be close to what you will experience!! :) We truly recommend this place not only for the caring host that spoil you with little surprises, fresh flowers from the garden, great coffee and breakfast, and nice conversations, but also becasue the place is ideally located to explore amazing Chianti region , Siena, Firenze, San Giminano, etc. Patrizia and Paolo, thank you again for making it so special!!

  • What an amazing place! We stayed here for a few nights in between sight seeing in Florence and Rome. (email hidden) to just relax and soak up the beautiful country side. Paolo and his family are amazing hosts. We enjoyed talking with the, and spending time with Margot and the cats. The room was better than we could have imagined and was super relaxing to be in their beautiful home. They arranged reservations for us for dinner in town during our stay and helped us navigate to some nice little towns in the area. We added the breakfast, which was amazing each morning!

  • Our stay with Paolo and Patrizia was a major highlight of our trip to Italy. They were so welcoming and warm, and their home was so beautiful--and beautifully located--we joked to them we wanted to move in. Lovely room, comfortable bed, palatial bathroom, all scrupulously clean and tastefully decorated--and all within easy driving distance of Radda in Chianti, Siena, wild countryside, and more. Paolo and Patrizia gave us great recommendations for places to eat and go, and we loved talking to them! A big bonus for us was playing with their dog and petting their cats. Paolo and Patrizia personify the best of what a service like air-bnb can do by connecting people from around the world.
