This deposit will be given back immediately upon check-out and walk through...at the latest 24 hours after check out. This is to ensure the care of our home during events. We are a little baffled by the glowing reviews of this house. It has many positive aspects including the seclusion, the wildlife, and the peaceful quiet setting. Also, the space was just right for what we needed with roomy areas to hang out with family and play games. But wow, it really needs cleaning, decluttering, and just plain fixing up. There were large cobwebs in the corners, and an excessive amount of dead bees (I think - didn't get too close) in a skylight and light fixture. One of the bathroom doors wouldn't close, a closet door and refrigerator drawer were broken, and every closet was haphazardly crammed with stuff. On the hospitality side, there was no dishwasher detergent, and only a partial roll of TP in each bathroom. The thing that put us over the top was upon leaving, we noticed a spot on the family room ceiling where a smoke detector should be. Upon further inspection, there were no working detectors in the home. This home has great potential, but needs work before renting again.
Julie, We are sorry you feel this way. We were surprised to not have been notified of your concerns during your stay. We would have happily rectified any problems you may have been experienced. We have someone who could have come over there at your convenience. There absolutely are smoke alarms on each floor. The one that was removed was connected to an alarm system which drove everyone crazy going off haphazardly. We could have assisted with all of your questions had you called us. We could have told you where to find the additional supplies, like dish detergent. I am sorry you weren't able to find them. So glad you appreciated the setting of the guest house and wish you had a better stay with us. We do take all our review seriously as we take pride in our home and want each guest stay to be enjoyable and problem free. For your future stays with Airbnb hosts, please bring your concerns to their attention immediately so they can resolve them and you will have a better stay.
I don't know if I can say enough good things about Ivy Rock. I think the best thing about it was it's location. The cabin is located just a short walk away from a perfectly picturesque swimming hole and a large horse ranch. We all enjoyed both very much. The property has just the right about of isolation you want in a get-away with still being very close to town.
The cabin is rustic but had everything we could have asked for. I did a lot of cooking and the kitchen had every kind of pot and pan on hand! The cabinets even had some of the spices I needed!
The hosts were great to communicate with. They took time to walk us around the large property (holding our son the whole time) and responded quickly when we needed something.
We can't wait to go back.
This was our second year staying at Ivy Rock. We love the place. The space is interesting and perfect for our big, loud family.
Some improvements on the deck were great, new grill and chairs.
Ivy is great to deal with also, we've checking in early with no complaints. The place was clean and everything is in good working condition. The master bathroom alone is worth the price of admission.
We'll be back next year.
The house was perfect for my stay in New Windsor. The house is beautiful and has everything you need already there. The host was great at communicating with me prior to my trip and I really appreciated the flexible check in and check out times. I would gladly stay here again.
We were in New Windsor for a wedding and decided to stay at the Guest House. Traveling from Austin, we don't really get the chance to enjoy being in the woods too often so we were excited! The home was a good size for the 7 of us: there was ample patio, dining, and living room space to hang out in.
We ran in to a couple of problems worth mentioning. There were a lot of stink bugs inside of the house (a few stink bugs hitched a ride back in one of our bags), a couple of wasps, and termites. Obviously you're in the woods so it's technically their home. However, if you are not a "bug person", the amount of bugs that were crawling around might give you anxiety. The other problem was a plumbing leak on the 1st floor from the 2nd floor bathroom, which happened immediately after we ran the shower. It dampened some of our clothes and splashed onto a laptop, which ended up being okay thankfully.
Overall, there were glitches but we weren't at the house much which made it bearable. If we were to have spent more time there, these issues might have felt a little more problematic. The house is obviously older and needs some TLC.
Kim was prompt in responding and super nice. The arrival and departure time were flexible which worked for us. We were offered a complimentary weekend for the troubles.
My friends and I had a really great and special time here for my 30th birthday. The house accommodated all 9 of us and was extremely close to Storm King Art Center as well as plenty of grocery store and other necessities. The hosts were very helpful and responsive though I didn't have the pleasure of meeting them. There was an awesome huskie who came and hung out with us on the porch, which we all really loved :)
All in all, the house was beautiful and it had everything we needed and more. A great experience.
We had a lovely time at Ivy Rock. Not being familiar with the area beforehand, they were very helpful and responsive with information to help us plan our trip. The house was just what we were looking for, a nice remote-feeling place not too far from the city. The layout was perfect for what we needed, and the deck and outdoor areas were great!
