Great little apartment with lovely views of the mountains and situated in a nice, village-like neighborhood with plenty of dining and bar options. Also very conveniently located 1 block away from the main metro line in town.
The apartment has one of the best views in town -- an unblemished view of the San Cristobal hill with the virgin statue, the Mapocho River and the Andes to the northeast.
More importantly, it's in a really safe neighborhood yet vibrant with lots of bars and restaurants, unlike many of the top listings in Airbnb that are in dingy and unlit areas of downtown.
The Manuel Montt area of Providencia is an elegant neighborhood with old fashioned shops from the 1960s and 1970s and is safe at all times of day. The immediate area has become a fashionable to dine without getting the noise and crowds associated with Bellavista. Within a few blocks you can eat Irish, Catalan, Belgian, Spanish, Japanese and French cuisine! We have an Irish Bar two blocks away, the fashionable Liguria Bar two blocks away, two theaters on the same block, metro station a block away, 24-hour all nighter stores, a gym and a riverside park fashionable with joggers. And yet it's quiet at night!
The building was completed in 2010 and the one-ambience living room + kitchen have been decorated in a modern style. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes herbs and spices so you can cook without having to buy everything. We have the lovely Providencia food market a few blocks away. The bedroom comes with an ample supply of bedclothes and towels should you be planning a longer stay. The flat is ideal for a couple with dining area for two.
When you get here the wine rack is full and there even a couple of whites in the fridge. You just pay for what you use and at it's priced at reasonable rates.

Interaction with Guests
I will most likely leave you the key with our 24-hour receptionists during office hours as I have a day-job! Also I will do that for late night arrivals, I will leave the key with our 24-hour receptionists. While the receptionists can help with basic local information if you speak a little Spanish, I am always just a phone call or email away if you need anything!
The neighborhood has everything at hand. Old shops, metro station, buses, great little bars and restaurants (I have Irish, Thai, Catalan, Uruguayan, Belgian, Chilean, French all within two blocks!!). We even had a theater a block away, and ice cream parlor from the 1950s. You can walk to two top restaurants -- Astrid y Gaston and Aqui Esta Coco, and also to the very popular Liguria tapas bar just a block away. What more can I say?
Yes, metro serving the main line a block. Lots of buses. Metro will get you downtown in 10 minutes. And to the uptown financial district, also in 10 minutes.
Other Things to Note
A note on safety. Santiago in general is a very safe city, and violent crime is not common. You do have to be alert with pickpockets in busy areas. Many Airbnb apartments are located in the downtown area -- while this is an area that has improved a lot in recent years -- many streets in the area are still dimly lit and some are a bit edgy at night. My neighborhood located in Providencia is very safe -- we have slightly better lighting and because of its popular bars and restaurants there are people milling around at all times, which increases the sense of safety. Santiago, and indeed most South American cities, tend to be noisier than North America and Europe. Luckily the apartment block is located on a quiet street, but you will often hear late night revelers -- I think my best advice is just go with the flow -- when in Rome!!
Please use Airbnb for all initial correspondence. I advertise the apartment as a non-smoking apartment, but I don't really have a problem smoking on the balcony as long you close the doors. All food stored in the cupboards, and things like tea and coffee can be used freely.
We stay at Matthews flat for a week in March and loved the location, the unit was great esp the balcony late afternoon sipping wine while looking at the Andes. We also enjoyed the rooftop pool. Providencia is a great area to stay, it has everything you need and also has a Metro station.
Matthew made us feel particularly welcome and came to visit us on the second day. This was great:
a. to meet him
b. to gather useful information as he speaks English (actually he is from Wales as is my husband)
c. to advise of local restaurants etc etc within walking distance
The neighbourhood is quiet but has plenty of amenities eg pubs chemists, eating places and compared to the hustle and bustle of the centre of the city (which in itself is interesting) it was really pleasant sitting on his balcony viewing the Andes and other surrounds as we sipped the odd wine or two and gorged on the icecreams from the cafe on the ground floor.
Matthew's apartment in Providencia was very comfortable and well cared for. It is located in an interesting part of the city. The information Matthew supplied was comprehensive and useful. There was a glitch with the keys when we arrived earlier than we had advised, and Matthew came to meet us with keys before we had time to finish a cup of coffee at the cafe next door. We enjoyed our stay and recommend the apartment to others.
El departamento es cómodo y cuenta con lo especificado en el anuncio. Su ubicación en muy practica también ya que se encuentra a pocos metros del metro. Recomendable!
Matthew was a great host. Always kind and ready to answer all our doubts about the city. The apartment was just like the pictures: very comfy and full of light! The location was great too, really close to the subway and many good restaurants. If I come back I will definitely stay at his apartment again.
I had a good stay at Matthews apartment. He was quick to respond and helpful in answering any questions. The apartment was as pictured, clean and in a great neighborhood. Within a few blocks there are many restaurants, shops, a market and access to an extensive park for walks or runs. The metro is 2 blocks away with easy access to all points in the city. The street is very quiet considering you are in a large Latin American city.
Would recommend & stay again upon future trips to Santiago.
