The Space

Apartment is two blocks south of St Peter's with a magnificent view of the dome. Fourth floor, sunny corner apartment in a very nice building with elevator. A foyer leads into the spacious living room and the corridor, off of which are the bedroom, eat-in kitchen, walk-in closet, and newly renovated bathroom with washer.
More than one guest commented in their reviews that the apartment was larger than they imagined from viewing pictures.
Both the bedroom and the living room open onto the balcony with view of Michelangelo's dome for St Peter's. The balcony is small, but one can fit a couple of chairs for a morning coffee, or an evening drink while enjoying the view of the brightly-lit dome.
The apartment has 24-hour wireless Internet access. The neighborhood is only a few steps away from the main tourist attractions, especially the Vatican. (You can see the statues on the front of the basilica from the street). But it is still an entirely "authentic" neighborhood. There's a very convenient supermarket, a great farmer's market, coffee-shops, stores, restaurants, a theater, etc. all within very easy walking distance. Trains, subways and buses are all easily accessible as well.

  • It was truly only sets away from the Vatican! Taxi stop at the corner, and and major sightseeing bus circulated just outside the building. Local food markets and general goods market across the street. Very spacious with a generous (website hidden) first time to travel and not stay in a hotel. I loved the experience of living in a local home. No more hotels for me. I would recommend everyone to travel this way.

  • Location is great to the Vatican! Apartment is quiet roomy. Supermarket is just up the street. The Train station is only a couple blocks away (1E to Rome Termini) as is the Taxi stand (10-12E to Rome Termini.) Taxi stand is actually on your way to the Vatican. So a Taxi should never cost more than 15E unless at night when they automatically go up 6.50E as a base fee. Lots of restaurants to eat and they are a little cheaper than they are in the city. Be sure you speak some Italian so you can speak with cleaning lady. She does not speak English.

  • We left two days ago Rome and I miss already a lot the city and the apartment where Carla very kindly left us stay into.
The apartment is in a very quite and safety part of Rome. How else could be ;-) so close to the catholic hearth named Vatican.
Inside you feel like home, you have everything you need and specially is warm and...I don't know...very private.
Go to Carla's apartment and you will never want to leave it ;-) !

    Thank you Carla.

  • Great location, excellent value. Carla's apartment, with it's marble and terrazzo floors is modestly but comfortably furnished, complete with kitchen, washing machine, balconies and comfortable bed. A Carrefour supermarket is a block up the street. Best of all, it's a 5 minute walk to Vatican city, 20 minute walk to Trastevere, 30 minutes to old Rome (Campo di Fiore). The 64 bus to central Rome stops out front. Carla's library is so interesting it was tempting to just stay in and read. Great homemade pastries can be had every morning at the corner, and a take-away place a few doors down was great (excellent pressed chicken and potatoes). Yes the street gets a bit noisy, especially early morning, but you're in a city so bring earplugs (quiets down after 11pm). Very fine restaurant nearby, DivinPeccato at 84 Piazza della Rovere. Very easy access from Fiumicino airport -- DO NOT take go to Termini in central Rome, instead take the local train a few stops to Trastevere station, change to the train that goes to stazione San Pietro (two stops). Coming out of the station, walk right till you see the back of the Carrefour market, go through to Via delle Fornaci. Go left (downhill) 2 or 3 blocks to Via di san Telesforo.

  • I read other reviews of this great place, and I think you can chalk it up to people complaining/expecting too much. It's not a five star hotel, no, but it's a great, real apartment in the heart of Rome! (You can see St. Peter's while having your morning coffee!) everything was comfortable, clean, and very homely. I'd highly recommend staying here if you want a real Rome experience for less than hotel price.

  • Carla's apartment was comfortable and spacious and made our short stay in Rome very comfortable. Good location and accessible by train and bus but also good walking distance from many areas of interest in this exciting city.

  • Carla was wonderful. She was gone so I dealt with the maid who didn't speak English but was beyond sweet and we found ways to communicate. There is internet - you just have to use the cable to connect... its not wifi which was fine. Carla was very communicative on email, gave me lots of suggestions for places to go, was fast to respond, and was very accommodating as far as letting me check out late.

Would recommend the place. Super close to the Vatican. A little further to some of the more touristy areas but definitely all walkable.

  • What a find! An ideal location not only walking distance to everything I wanted to see but very close to a train terminal, major bus routes and a bus station.
The property itself was way larger than I was expecting for being central Rome, clean, very economical, well equipped with a large balcony with a great view of the dome of St. Peter's.
Carla's communications were very prompt, friendly and very informative. The check-in was very easy as well.
This was truly a perfect experience and would love to stay here again if I find myself in Rome.

I'm part Italian, and have lived in Rome for almost twenty years... except for when I'm in the States. I did my graduate work at MIT and now I teach in Alabama. Living between two continents is complicated, but worth it! The apartment is where I live myself when in Rome. Some of the furniture is still from when I was a graduate student--not particularly elegant, perhaps. But some of it are pieces I collected over the years. A bit of a mishmash, but feels very much like home to me. And you can see for yourself if you like it: it's exactly as in the photos. I rent it out while I'm in the States, during the academic year; that means I generally not get to know my guests personally--except over email, that is. I really like my neighborhood and the city, and am eager to share as much information about it as you'd like. I try and make my guests' stay as pleasant as possible, even long distance.
