Upscale neighborhood of Upper Dowsett / Nuuanu.
Nuʻuanu Pali is a section of the windward cliff (pali in Hawaiian) of the Koʻolau mountain located at the head of Nuʻuanu Valley on the island of Oʻahu. It has a panoramic view of the windward (northeast) coast of Oʻahu. The Pali Highway (Hawaii State Highway 61) connecting Kailua/Kāneʻohe with downtown Honolulu runs through the Nuʻuanu Pali Tunnels bored into the cliffside.
The area is also the home of the Nuʻuanu Freshwater Fish Refuge and the Nuʻuanu Reservoir in the jurisdiction of the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The Nuʻuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the tunnels where visitors are treated to a panoramic view of the Oʻahu's windward side with sweeping views of Kāneʻohe, Kāneʻohe Bay, and Kailua. It is also well known for strong trade winds that blow through the pass (now bypassed by the Nuʻuanu Pali Tunnels), forming a sort of natural wind tunnel.
The "BUS" stops less than a block away. Very centrally location for Oahu. For more flexibility and to see as much as possible, I would recommend renting a car and taking one day tours of neighbor islands.

We arrived and he was there to greet us; three women. The pics captured some but not all. Loved that there were three showers! I couldn't believe we scored such an amazing place. It was breathtaking! It met all of our needs. We were so busy we did not get a lot of time to enjoy it as much, but we certainly were wowed. Kurt was a gracious (website hidden). Thanks for leaving the laundry open for us. It was nice to travel with clean, dry clothes. And we were glad to put in the towels and sheets for you too.

Kurt was an excellent host and the space was exactly what the pictures depicted it to be. The house is located in a great neighborhood and there was plenty of space for everyone. (Kurt even went the extra mile and set up an extra bedroom for us). There were no real problems during our stay, and when we had any questions, Kurt almost always answered the phone (and when he couldn't called us back promptly). Great place to stay for a great price!
We stayed at Kurt's place for a week, It was a great house . Kurt is very kind and friendly.I would like to stay here again.ありがとう☆
Kurt and the Artzone are one and the same-unique, amazing and provide a total unforgettable experience. From beginning to end, Kurt was "Kurt"eous... and always responded to any and every request, always striving to go above and beyond what you might expect. His generosity is matched by the magnanimous heart he shares both with his unique and personalized properties and in his personal interaction.. right down to his voice message. His Superhost designation is well deserved and Kurt is absolutely correct in being very picky who he rents the Artzone to.. and if you are approved, then you are in for a really theatrical over the top experience. The location is so convenient to everything, although be aware that this is a house for people who are looking for an inside space which is complete with enough surprises and "toys" as well as art to keep you busy, rather than the outside centric homes one thinks of in Hawaii.. and it is also at the cusp of the Pali where it may be a bit more overcast and moist than say, Waikiki, but it is just a few blocks from Queen Emma's summer palace and most of the major religious institutions and Embassies and about 5 minutes from Costco, less than 15 to Aloha Stadium and easy access to the North Shore and East Coast and allows you to bypass most of the hustle and traffic around Waikiki,
Being able to watch the aerialists practice was a real treat. Entertaining was a blast, just to see our guest's faces and the artistic touches in every room made waking up each morning and arriving back an adventure in new discovery. Whatever we needed, Kurt provided, and he was flexible which is the sign of a great host. I have stayed in some of the finest properties in the world and have been to Hawaii over 20 times and staying in two of Kurt's properties have been some of the highlights for myself and my family! Thank you again Kurt for all you and Irene do to ensure a perfect experience for your guests. We would have been very sad to have left, except we are now in another of Kurt's amazing properties.. and love the diversity of experiences!
We had a lovely stay at the Art Gallery. Kurt and his wife were responsive hosts, available when we needed assistance and friendly. The Gallery, as promised, was a unique experience. Terrific location and spacious. Unfortunately we missed performance rehearsal. . The floor is concrete so I would advise house slippers. The jacuzzi was not operational during our stay so we learned to ask about that next time. Overall a successful experience. We were happy with our decision to stay there. This would be a great place to host destination events where groups can also gather and hang.
What a wonderful location and a unique place to stay, the kitchen is well equipped and we used it to it's full potential. We found Kurt to be a great host and very helpful and friendly. We had a good 2 week stay and plan to go back and experience it all over again.
We enjoyed our stay on the Pali Highway. ArtZone is conveniently situated between Waikiki and the Windward shore of Oahu and only minutes away from the airport. The neighborhood is quiet and pretty, very green because of the mountain locale. Commuting is quick and easy as long as you avoid peak commuter hours. A car is essential since there are no shopping areas in walking distance, but convenient parking in the courtyard is secure. The house itself is spacious with an amazing kitchen and considerable privacy. Kurt explained all the functions of the lights, air conditioning and security in extensive detail, which was helpful. The only negatives are no available laundry facilities and no outdoor area to dry beach towels and swim suits. I would have enjoyed a patio or some outdoor recreation site since the house itself it rather chilly and dark during the day. But since beaches are an easy drive away this was not a major issue. And the (indoor) hammock upstairs was ideal for relaxation.
It would have been nice for Wendy to communicate the laundry situation to me. I guess its because she was too nice and didn't want to disturb me. I do open up the laundry facility one entire day for my guests per week. I do this because I have 5 properties on Airbnb and use the washer / dryer at ArtZone as my hub for re-freshening linen & towels . I also have delivered laundry to the laundry service down the street for guests who require MORE than once a week service. The property is surrounded by a 6' wall that could be used to drape towels, swim suits to dry. The Art Gallery is intentionally dark without lights to control the daylight. It is equipped with 207 halogen lights on dimmers that would brighten even the darkest cloudiest days. Again Wendy may have been trying to save my electricity bill from sky rocketing by leaving most of the lights off. As far as "chilly"(I am assuming Wendy means in the evening) for every time I was at the property doing laundry during the day, I noticed the air conditioning was on 24/7... if one constantly cools the house & not let it heat up during the day, this will make the house get cold and even more so in the evening. Overall Wendy and guest were very pleasant ....just wish communication was a bit better.
I used Airbnb for the first time during a recent trip to Honolulu, HI where I attended a conference. Three of us shared the home. First, let me say that we all LOVED the home and we agreed that renting a place was the best decision for us. Kurt Kaninaka was a perfect host. He provided consistent and detailed communications about our upcoming stay and he met us upon our arrival. He was helpful, but not invasive. The house is spacious and beautiful. The kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances and is fully stocked, which allowed us to cook many of our meals during the stay. The house is conveniently located. It is a short drive to Waikiki and relatively close to the airport. We would definitely rent the Art Gallery Theater home again.
This is such a fantastic location. A short drive to the beach is well worth the perks of this home. Kurt was a fantastic host and made our stay amazing. He even waited until we got there after 10 pm to show us around the house.
Great place to stay and definitely unusual. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Honolulu and is very convenient to everything..
