About This Listing
Full of color, light, art and folk art, our home is in walking distance of Cal Poly (10 min) and downtown (25 min). We're happy to share it - and a mini chocolate and wine tasting - with you!
You are looking at Trudy's room, which is small and sweet and has lovely afternoon light. It has its own bathroom, an exceptionally comfortable queen-sized bed (memory foam on a hybrid spring and cotton futon), a desk and a chair.
Guests can use the gardens, back deck and the pleasant ground floor living room anytime, as well as the kitchen in the morning or if we're not using it.
We ask that you respect our family's daily routines when using the space on the second floor: the kitchen at dinner time, the dining room and the back room. Feel free to make yourself at home if no one else is using the those areas.
The third floor is private.
Interaction with Guests
Tom and I love sharing our home with guests from around the world. Travelers ourselves and hosts to exchange students and SERVAS travelers for years before discovering Airbnb, there's nothing we enjoy more than a good conversation at the dining room table, on the deck, or by the fire.
We're 7 miles from the beach and an hour from Hearst Castle. Great wineries close by in Edna Valley, Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande. San Luis has amazingly good weather year around, a vital downtown, many excellent restaurants, wonderful music and arts, and the best chocolate around.
A bus stop two blocks away, about a mile from the Amtrak station. Street parking for one car, easy freeway access. Lovely walking neighborhood.
Other Things to Note
We'd love to share a free mini-wine-and-chocolate-tasting with you. Ask us about it!
Guests say: " We had a wonderful stay with you~one of our favorite airbnbs now. It was great! It was fun and interesting to meet you and we certainly enjoyed our conversations. Your mother's room is sweet, immaculate and very comfortable. In that regard, thank you for good pillows too.
We appreciated access to your big and bright kitchen, and your conservation efforts.
We felt we had both privacy and friendship. Your home is a very nice combination of vibrant color and peaceful refuge."
Tom and I are members of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. We voluntarily pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city (in addition to state and federal income taxes).
Please stay in close touch about your arrival time so we can be here to welcome you.
Please use water sparingly. We are in the midst of a severe drought.
Parking is restricted in our neighborhood on weekdays. If you come during the week, we have have one parking pass which we will lend you when you come (please remember to give it back!).
If you have more than one car, one will have to be left a few houses up the street at the end of the restricted area. On the weekends there are no restrictions.
Juliet's room is right below our own, so if you come in late, please keep your voices down. There is a fairly strictly enforced 10 PM noise ordinance in the city of San Luis Obispo.
You’re welcome to make yourselves at home in the living room outside the bedrooms anytime, or in the garden or the back deck. Provided we aren’t using it ourselves, feel free use the kitchen and the second floor living space too. The third floor is our private space.
There’s microwave near the refrigerator, an electric kettle near the sink, and both an espresso machine and a drip coffee maker on the counter that you can use. Coffee is in the freezer, tea in boxes and tins by the stove. Cups are hanging above the coffee machines, glasses are in the cabinet above the microwave. There’s filtered water in the fridge but the tap water is fine to drink.
Lily Bear is a rescued Chow Golden Retriever. She can be barky and will occasionally growl because she’s still a little fearful, but if you completely ignore her at first, she’ll eventually come to you. If she barks as you leave the house tell her “Bear stays” firmly and she’ll get the message. She rarely tries to get out the front door, but if she does get out, leave the door wide open and walk away from it to where she can’t see you, and she’ll come back in a few minutes.
The black cats are Olive and Alice. They live upstairs. It’s fine to let them in the front door so they can scoot up the stairs before Bear sees them.
Leave the lights on in the entry hall when you go to bed. Someone will turn them off.
We had an amazing experience staying at Eve and Tom's home. Even though we got into the house pretty late (around 10pm) they were generous to treat us to a glass of wine and paired piece of homemade chocolate. The room was clean and had an adjacent private bathroom. While Eve and Tom were both kind and personable, they respected our privacy. In the morning they served us a granola and yogurt breakfast with fresh berries. Eve even let us use her dryer, which certainly went above and beyond. We'd come back in a heartbeat
Lovely house & lovely host. Eve really gave us some superb local tips. The room was immaculate and homely. Lily bear is also a very friendly dog. A great stay, would definitely stay again :)
Eve's house was wonderful. Trudy's room was quaint, extremely comfortable bed, artisanal chocolates. Eve provided coffee in the morning and a lovely lesson on her family history. We came in late but wish we had spent more time--the house is eclectic and the town small enough to really admire. We got breakfast sandwiches at the recommended Splash Cafe which were excellent. Highly suggest this stay!
Staying with Eve and Tom was such a wonderful experience! Their home is well located in Slo and made it easy for my brother and I to explore the city and the surrounding coast. The room we stayed in (Trudys) was bright and clean and very homey. Eve and Tom were more than welcoming with suggestions about what to do in the area, both through messages and through the pamplets they left for us. Eve also gave us a mini wine and chocoate tasting that was a delight! Parking was on the street and easy to find. We very much enjoyed our stay here and would love to return!
A few notes: Someone in the home likes to play piano til about 10 pm. If you like sleeping earlier than that in silence, that could be a problem. But my brother and I actually enjoyed the music! Also, I think the lower story of the home is rented to a Cal poly student. The entrance was right by the windows of our room and he tended to talk very loudly when passing by. This wasn't a big deal but it was startling to wake up to very loud laughing right by our open window in the night. Other than that, this was a wonderful experience! !
We had a one night stay at Trudy's room and it was very comfortable and homely. The best part was meeting the fascinating Eve & Tom who made us feel very welcome. They are very good at providing brochures and local info about the area. Eve told us very interesting (website hidden) about the history of San Luis Obispo. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely return if in the area again. Lilly Bear, their dog, is a highlight.
I must say this place is fantastic! it greatly exceeded my expectation. the house is the same or even nicer than the picture - authentic, spacisous, and home liking.
Eve and Tom are indeed the hosts you will want, as they make you feel at home, getting things convenient for you. they are very helpful but strikes the right balance just not over doing it.
I will highly recommend this place and honestly i am ready to pay more for this accomodation!
We had a lovely time staying with Eve and Tom, sharing a sunny breakfast table and interesting talks. Couldn't have felt more welcome. It's a nice quiet neighborhood quite close to town. Would definitely stay here again if we ever came back to San Luis Obispo
