About This Listing
Full of color, light, art and folk art, our home is in walking distance of Cal Poly (10 min) and downtown (25 min). We're happy to share it - and a mini chocolate and wine tasting - with you!
You are looking at Trudy's room, which is small and sweet and has lovely afternoon light. It has its own bathroom, an exceptionally comfortable queen-sized bed (memory foam on a hybrid spring and cotton futon), a desk and a chair.
Guests can use the gardens, back deck and the pleasant ground floor living room anytime, as well as the kitchen in the morning or if we're not using it.
We ask that you respect our family's daily routines when using the space on the second floor: the kitchen at dinner time, the dining room and the back room. Feel free to make yourself at home if no one else is using the those areas.
The third floor is private.
Interaction with Guests
Tom and I love sharing our home with guests from around the world. Travelers ourselves and hosts to exchange students and SERVAS travelers for years before discovering Airbnb, there's nothing we enjoy more than a good conversation at the dining room table, on the deck, or by the fire.
We're 7 miles from the beach and an hour from Hearst Castle. Great wineries close by in Edna Valley, Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande. San Luis has amazingly good weather year around, a vital downtown, many excellent restaurants, wonderful music and arts, and the best chocolate around.
A bus stop two blocks away, about a mile from the Amtrak station. Street parking for one car, easy freeway access. Lovely walking neighborhood.
Other Things to Note
We'd love to share a free mini-wine-and-chocolate-tasting with you. Ask us about it!
Guests say: " We had a wonderful stay with you~one of our favorite airbnbs now. It was great! It was fun and interesting to meet you and we certainly enjoyed our conversations. Your mother's room is sweet, immaculate and very comfortable. In that regard, thank you for good pillows too.
We appreciated access to your big and bright kitchen, and your conservation efforts.
We felt we had both privacy and friendship. Your home is a very nice combination of vibrant color and peaceful refuge."
Tom and I are members of SLOHosts, the group who worked together to keep short-term rentals available here in San Luis Obispo last fall. We voluntarily pay a 10% TOT (room tax) to the city (in addition to state and federal income taxes).
Please stay in close touch about your arrival time so we can be here to welcome you.
Please use water sparingly. We are in the midst of a severe drought.
Parking is restricted in our neighborhood on weekdays. If you come during the week, we have have one parking pass which we will lend you when you come (please remember to give it back!).
If you have more than one car, one will have to be left a few houses up the street at the end of the restricted area. On the weekends there are no restrictions.
Juliet's room is right below our own, so if you come in late, please keep your voices down. There is a fairly strictly enforced 10 PM noise ordinance in the city of San Luis Obispo.
You’re welcome to make yourselves at home in the living room outside the bedrooms anytime, or in the garden or the back deck. Provided we aren’t using it ourselves, feel free use the kitchen and the second floor living space too. The third floor is our private space.
There’s microwave near the refrigerator, an electric kettle near the sink, and both an espresso machine and a drip coffee maker on the counter that you can use. Coffee is in the freezer, tea in boxes and tins by the stove. Cups are hanging above the coffee machines, glasses are in the cabinet above the microwave. There’s filtered water in the fridge but the tap water is fine to drink.
Lily Bear is a rescued Chow Golden Retriever. She can be barky and will occasionally growl because she’s still a little fearful, but if you completely ignore her at first, she’ll eventually come to you. If she barks as you leave the house tell her “Bear stays” firmly and she’ll get the message. She rarely tries to get out the front door, but if she does get out, leave the door wide open and walk away from it to where she can’t see you, and she’ll come back in a few minutes.
The black cats are Olive and Alice. They live upstairs. It’s fine to let them in the front door so they can scoot up the stairs before Bear sees them.
Leave the lights on in the entry hall when you go to bed. Someone will turn them off.
Eve and Tom were wonderful hosts. They offered us a wine and chocolate pairing upon arriving which made us feel right at home. We enjoyed Trudy's room as it had a very comfortable bed and a private bath. Eve was so kind in offering her guests granola, yogurt, fruit and coffee in the morning! Tom and Eve are so very kind to open their home to guests and going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. I would highly recommend their home to AirBnB users :-)
We had a really nice stay at Charm and Chocolate. They are definitely true to their name, as the house was super cute, filled with charm and the hosts own a chocolate shop. My friend and I were welcomed with chocolates on our pillows and a chocolate/wine tasting our first night!
We felt very comfortable and right at home. Our room was cozy, with our own bathroom. The neighborhood was super cute, filled with young college students and close by to a cafe with the best salmon tacos I've ever had! I wish I remembered the name, but asks the hosts, its a place they recommend.
I totally recommend staying here!
My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at Tom and Eve's home near Cal Poly SLO. We were in town for a college weekend and were able to leave the car and walk most of the weekend. It was less than 5 minutes to campus and about a 20 minute walk to downtown. Eve was there to welcome us when we arrived and introduced us to Lily Bear. She also was helpful in suggesting the easiest route to walk to downtown. She did warn us that the walk back would be all uphill - it is!
We stayed in "Trudy's Room" which was very nice with a comfortable bed and pillows, private bathroom, snacks, and fresh flowers. All linens were provided and the bathroom was stocked with necessities. A nice breakfast of yogurt and all the toppings (berries, nuts, seeds, honey, granola, ...) was provided each morning. There is also a refrigerator, microwave, and pantry space for airbnb guests.
Eve and Tom are very personable and we enjoyed visiting with them. There are two other rooms in Tom and Eve's home listed on airbnb, and they were also rented by moms and their daughters visiting Cal Poly. It was a treat to visit with them as well. If visiting SLO, check out the downtown - numerous places to eat, shop, and enjoy the day. Make sure to stop by Tom and Eve's chocolate shop - Mama Ganache - for some delicious truffles. We got some on our way out of town.
Wonderful space in a beautiful home. The private bathroom was a huge plus, and I loved the thoughtful touches - especially the little samples of their famous chocolates. Eve and Tom are great hosts, and I'd choose to stay here again!
