It's a lovely light filled space!
Come stay at my beautiful 1 bedroom apartment in the quaint village of North Egremont, MA. The large, immaculate apartment is attached to my house, (so I'm right next door if you need me) but extremely private. It is eco-friendly with bamboo floors throughout. You will have a fully equipped kitchen, a gorgeous bathroom with whirlpool bath and volcanic tiles from Mount Vesuvius, a private bedroom with Queen bed, an open concept living/dining room with a large queen size pull out couch.
You don't have to bring a thing except personal items and food. I supply coffee, tea, half & half, and orange juice. There are spices and oil for cooking as well.
We are 20 minutes to Tanglewood and Kripalu, and only 5 minutes to Great Barrington, winner of Smithsonian Magazine's best small town in America.
We have high speed internet, satellite TV, and a separate entrance for your complete privacy and quiet. Cell service is spotty, sorry, we're rural.
Listen to the coyotes off in the distance from the little deck, take a hike, take in a show in town or eat at our many wonderful, eclectic restaurants. I'm a writer, so I'm very quiet. If you're a writer or artist, this is wonderful place to come and regroup, relax, and get inspired. Even if you're not, there's so much to do in the Berkshires and my place is centrally located, easy to find and very comfortable.
I speak some Spanish and Chinese, so if you need some translating, I can help. I've been living here for 28 years, so I know lots about the area and would love to recommend places to go and things to do. Hope to see you!

There really aren't too many rules, but I am environmentally conscious, so I ask that you be too. Please turn off lights and appliances you aren't using and keep the heat down. We have a well, so please conserve water. Shoes off would be appreciated but not required. If you need anything during your stay, please let me know. so I can help. And of course, absolutely no smoking.
Thanks so much!
The property was clean and tidy and a fine place to stay. The host was quite gracious when we arrived and even provided some muffins, which were most welcome as we got in around 9 p.m. at night and the kids were hungry. We had some minor complaints about the property, for example, it was quite drafty. The door to the outside is just a single door, no screen door, and since it was about 0 degrees outside the place never got above 64F, even though we turned the heat all the way up. And the wifi was intermittent. Overall, I would have given the place probably 4 stars.
The owner's behavior was very erratic after we left.
When we left, we gathered up all the garbage into one bag in the kitchen and swept up the floors and tidied up as much as we expect guests to do when they stay in our house. We had paid for three nights but since there was a storm coming and we did not want to be stuck in a drafty apartment with spotty wifi, we decided to leave on second evening of our stay. Although we were in a hurry to get on the road, we spent half an hour cleaning up.
Then I got this message from the owner:
"I am shocked at the way you left my beautiful accommodation. Garbage everywhere, dirty dishes left for me to clean, beds un-stripped, and the heat up to 84 degrees!!! I am very disappointed and feel you own me not only an apology but extra cleaning fees."
Note that she already DID charge $50 in cleaning fees. When I charge a cleaning fee for my own property I expect to do a little, um, cleaning.
I called the owner to try to understand her concerns but she wouldn't even speak with me - she just hung up.
The fact is:
a) Garbage was absolutely not left everywhere
b) The heat was turned up to max but only because the temp would not get above 64F
Then, when I replied on AirBNB message that we had actually left the place in a good condition, the host replied,
"I always do my diligence as a host, I always want my guest's to feel at ease and comfortable and this is something I feel is very important. and I appreciate just moving forward. I have closed the case requesting additional cleaning fee as this is done and the matter laid to rest. I wish you and your family well and best wishes."
I would be extremely cautious if you decide to stay with this host. Her behavior seems erratic: one moment she is warm and gracious, in another moment she is claiming we left the place a mess.
It is not useful to the host, the guest or Airbnb to engage in name calling or vituperation. I was respectful enough to leave a neutral review for this guest, but I have to respond to this incredibly disrespectful and inaccurate review. I told this guest that he happened to pick the coldest time we've ever had in the Berkshires. I informed him of this before he arrived, as well as informing him of our spotty wifi (which I had told him I could remedy if need be) and did everything necessary to make the place warm and comfortable. My apartment was immaculate when they arrived. I did not have to, but I made up the pull-out bed for the children with plenty of blankets. I left muffins, coffee, Valentine's chocolates and flowers for these guests, I even left my children's books for the kids. (one was which was left destroyed) Once they were settled I text-ed them several times to make sure all was well and was told it was. I was never informed about their discomfort in the face of the cold and when they unexpectedly left I was very surprised. I received this text from the guest:"With the snow coming our plans have changed. Leaving back to NYC tonight. Will leave the keys on the table. Loved your place!" When I entered the apartment I was shocked to find not only a mess but the thermostat set at 84 degrees, yet switched to the "cool" mode. No wonder it was cold! I had shown the guests how to use the thermostat, but they used it incorrectly and no one ever called me to tell me they were cold and therefore uncomfortable. There was a complete lack of communication on their part. I would have remedied the situation had I been informed. As for the rest, we have a very different idea of what a clean apartment means. While there was bagged garbage, there were also filled coffee cups all over the place, food in the sink, dirty dishes, crackers crumbs on the floor (some wet), eggs and milk left on the counter, and lights blazing. There was a storm coming, they had three small children; one as young as three, and I can understand their need to depart quickly. Had the guests simply said this, it would have been sufficient. To call my behavior "erratic" is unkind and unfounded. I tried my best, was gracious and kind and would have helped with all their complaints had I simply been informed.
What a beautiful weekend we had up in Egremont. Three friends and I settled into Jana's wonderfully welcoming apartment and imediately upon arrival we knew it was going to be a delightful stay. Jana is supremely accomdating and kind, and the conditions of her apartment reflect this. It was clean, private and well-put-together, and there was even coffee and muffins for breakfast! If we ever go back up to the Great Barrington region (and I'm sure we will, it's a marvelous area), Jana's place will be the first spot on our list. Thank you very much for a marvelous stay!
This was a comfortable base for exploring the Berkshires. It's a spacious one-bedroom guest apartment atop a garage, furnished with an eclectic mix of furniture. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Jana was a kind and conscientious host.
Jana is a wonderful host(ess). Her retreat is beautifully decorated and in a great location. The pictures do not reflect the peaceful and calm of this place. We spent a busy weekend, shuttling back and forth from Great Barrington, while finding time to read in Jana's spacious back yard. Highly recommended!
My friends and I had a wonderful time at Jana's. The place was very clean and Jana was incredibly nice. We really lucked out finding this place as it helped to make our trip great.
Jana is a very warm and gracious host. She really wants to be sure that you have a good stay and get to wherever you want to go. Her home is clean and sweet. I would recommend people stay here. It's in a beautiful part of the mountains and pretty accessible to all the major Berkshires events.
I'm the mother of two amazing adult children, a writer, an ESL teacher, a jeweler, and a musician of sorts. I have written a ton of books and have several of them actually published and some are even winning awards. I am the very first Writer-In-Residence at Herman Melville's home, Arrowhead where I have the amazing privilege to sit at his desk and write, uninterrupted. Bliss!
I spent many years in New York City as a refugee resettlement counselor before moving up to the Berkshires in 1986. For four years I was a tour guide in China and have been to many parts of Asia and South & Central America. I recently returned from a magical trip to Scotland and Ireland and want to visit again soon. I love to travel and as a writer, I'm beginning to do a lot of author visits to schools all over the place. I was recently in Peru. SA, Colorado, Tennessee and Mexico.
I am planning to build a wildflower meadow in the backyard this fall and have lots of kale and zucchini which I hope you will pick! I have just learned how to "distress" furniture and have a blast tag-sale-ing and buying stuff to upcycle. I am working on two novels, one for young adults, the other for adults.
I go above and beyond when I host, and will respond quickly to any problem that might arise. I am very proud of my home and want you to have the best experience you can while you are here. I have lots of DVDs you can borrow for nights you want to stay in. I love to offer suggestions, so please ask away!
I hope to see you soon!
