Fire Island (Smith Point Park), one of the greatest beaches along the East Coast of the U.S.A.
Smith Point Park, the Beach (Fire Island) is breathtaking. It is a protected seashore with no houses, a restaurant/bar called "Beach Hut" with live music after 5.00 pm. Lifeguards are on duty in this area, more privacy you can find by walking down a little bit and most likely you will have the beach all to yourself. A boardwalk through the dunes gives you a romantic view, watch the sunset over the bay and meld away... If you head out to the beach early in the morning before sunrise, you will see something phenomenal.. plenty of deers are everywhere in the dunes and meet up to watch the sunrise..
Bus stops are close by and leaving almost every hour during the day, The trainstation is approx. 10min away by car, a Taxi to the trainstation cost approx.$8.00, I do rent bikes.

maximum of accommodation 2 guests!
We spent three nights at Gerry's place -- cozy, quiet and very clean. It's just a few minutes' drive to Smith Point, which is a big plus.
This was our first airbnb- experience. Before we went to Manhattan, we took a couple of days to explore Long Island and stayed at Gerry's place. The house is very nice with all the trees around it, in a quiet neighborhood. Everything was exactly like described, just a clean and cozy place. Gerry is a very nice guy, very helpful. He gave us tips where to go and what to see and he borrowed us a map of Long Island, which was very helpful. Gerry was easy to contact and when we needed him, he was around.
The house itself had everything we needed and we slept very comfortable because of the bed and the quiet area.
We can absolutely recommend Gerry and his place, there's really nothing we had to complain about and Mastic beach is a strategic good place to explore Long Island, of course you need a car for that.
Gerry, all the best for you!
This was one of our best Airbnb experiences. We took the train from NY after work on Friday, and arrived to the house just two hours later (there were affordable taxis waiting at the station). Garry was very welcoming, and gave us an in detail tour of the house. The house itself was very, very, very clean, like no one has ever leaves there! Gary has bikes there you can rent for a couple of dollars, which makes it very easy to move around. Everything is 5/15 min by bike: restaurants, deli, the beach... And what a beach!!
In summary, great weekend, great host, great experience that will recommend to friends and family.
I stayed at Gerry's quaint little cottage for a wedding at a friends house a few blocks down the road. It was the best decision I made because the closest hotel I think was about 15-20 miles away.
I made my visit to the Mastic area in middle-late September. The house is very small like advertised which is perfect for 1 to 2 people. There are 2 bedrooms so let Gerry know if you need both before your arrival. Once I walked in, it smelled very fresh and the entire place was pretty clean so I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. The first night was cold (for me at least...coming from Los Angeles we don't really get cold weather). The portable heater that was there didn't help. Luckily I had packed warm clothes. There is plenty of kitchenware if you wanted to bring food home to cook. Just be careful because ants will swarm in if you leave food out. I experienced this when I had spilled water in the bathroom. They swooped in almost instantly before I even noticed I had spilled the water in the first place. Speaking of which, the bathroom sink drains very slowly so water builds up quickly. I noticed one of the towels had what looked like makeup on it and another smelled like chlorine but the others were clean. There isn't much space to lounge and enjoy a nice bottle of wine (which was hard to find since liquor stores seemed to close very early) but it was fine for me. The little time I actually spent at home I found myself getting a bit stir-crazy. The tv didn't work and I was unable to find any internet connection. However, staying in a beautiful town like Mastic Beach, you shouldn't be keeping yourself inside anyway.
The neighborhood is quiet and very peaceful. Nothing is in walking distance so renting bikes from Gerry or driving is the best way to get around town. With a car, everything was very accessible. Lots of delis in the neighborhood and many more chain restaurants a few miles back into town.
Overall I had a great time at Gerry's place. He stayed in a camper on the property but I never saw him. He was friendly and gave me great suggestions about getting to his place as well as places to eat around town. I checked in almost at 11 pm and he was able to show me around which I appreciated. I definitely recommend this place if you are not picky about where you stay when traveling.
Drew and his friend have been very polite, they did show up 3.00 hours late but i have no problem to help out if i can, because i do not leave key for anybody without meeting and greeting them only in an emergency° I do have in my description that i need to know if you need the 2nd bedroom, so i can set up freshly for guests. I do not offer heat which is also advertised but i do not want to have my guest freezing so i do have a portable heater which does make enough heat for that little cottage! I do use this heater myself when it gets fresh at the end of the summer or beginning of the fall. Of course the heater is portable which means if it does not make enough heat at the location where it is positioned right now, then just plug it in to a closer outlet near the bedroom. I do offer a spare comforter that guest can use if they still feel cold and you are allowed to tell me if you are still feel cold ;). The bathroom was flooded after they left, and we do get ants if you flood the bathroom because water runs into the foundation of the building and will draw ants which is a pain in ... ... to get rid of them after guests have left. That´s why guests should obey my tips... the water flow down slowly after you have left, it took me 2 days to unclog the pipe! Guest should not drain food in the sink, I have a big thrash can in the kitchen and 2 more outside to get rid of food left overs! If guest leave stain in the towels and i can´t get all of them out, that does not mean they are not freshly washed° If i have overseen a noticeable stain, then I´m sorry about that. You can always tell a host about things you are missing or not satisfied with, I´m sure they glad to help you to make your stay comfortable. I always tell guest that there is a store "handy pantry" in town just a little walk away which is open late, where you can get all the things you need, also 2 gas station are close by where you can get liquor, beer, coffee etc.. on the other side of William Floyd parkway approx. half a mile away is a "seven eleven" and also a 24 hour deli next it: The TV is not working right now caused by guest usage in the past, but those things don´t last forever, If guest are telling me they are fine without a TV then I do not go and get another one, because i´m in the process of getting this big nice Tv repaired and i am only waiting for the parts to arrive, but i do have a spare, which i offered to get if needed. I do not offer Internet service which i do have in my description, but there is a open source in town but most people do net get to log on because of there weak signal! Most people are coming out here to get away from the rush they are usually in and don´t want to stay home and watch Tv as usual, they want to go to the beach, enjoy maybe a day of quietness away from daily stress, cook, sleep long etc.. or take of from here to explore the wonderful island.. I live in the house myself and i enjoy the little cottage very much, i consider myself as "picky" clean vise, but clean does not always mean new ;) Thank you for staying with me best Gerry
Gerry's place was easily located and a lovely place to spend the long weekend. The bed was especially comfortable and the kitchen well-equipped, though we did miss not having access to the oven.
The accommodations were as described. A good price for proximity to the beach for a very low key, no frills weekend. I highly recommend renting the bikes, we used them to get to the beach each day. The beach was lovely and we enjoyed frozen drinks at the beach hut.
This was my first airb&b experience. We were traveling through on our honeymoon from Los Angeles driving to New York. We chose this area because we had an event to go to in the Hamptons and this was not far. The place was just as described. Tucked back away off the street. Quiet. Not far from the water and not far from food, groceries, or anything you my need during your stay.
