Fire Island (Smith Point Park), one of the greatest beaches along the East Coast of the U.S.A.
Smith Point Park, the Beach (Fire Island) is breathtaking. It is a protected seashore with no houses, a restaurant/bar called "Beach Hut" with live music after 5.00 pm. Lifeguards are on duty in this area, more privacy you can find by walking down a little bit and most likely you will have the beach all to yourself. A boardwalk through the dunes gives you a romantic view, watch the sunset over the bay and meld away... If you head out to the beach early in the morning before sunrise, you will see something phenomenal.. plenty of deers are everywhere in the dunes and meet up to watch the sunrise..
Bus stops are close by and leaving almost every hour during the day, The trainstation is approx. 10min away by car, a Taxi to the trainstation cost approx.$8.00, I do rent bikes.
no pets/ no smoking!
maximum of accommodation 2 guests!
The host canceled this reservation 31 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We came in late and Gerry was flexible with check-in times. The neighborhood is ultra quiet so it's easy to get a good rest in, and relax.
The cottage was very clean, and well-kept. It's a great place to set up base-camp if you plan on being out and about. The beach is close, and Gerry has a lot of local knowledge- he recommended great restaurants and beach-areas away from the crowds, which was awesome.
We would come back again without hesitation!
Gerry's cottage is really cute and well kept. Gerry keeps it extremely clean and he's always available for any question or tips regarding the area since he lives on the property. We had a very pleasant time at Gerry's cottage and would likely be back!
We had a very relaxing weekend at Gerry's place! He was an excellent host, always friendly and helpful. The house was just as described—very cozy—and we found it to be super clean.
I *definitely* recommend that anyone interested in staying here do some research on Mastic Beach first. It is not a stereotypically touristy or cute-sy Fire Island town, so you should be aware of that before booking the place. There is very little in the way of shops or restaurants or bars within walking distance—virtually none—and nearby Neighborhood Road is mostly deserted and has seen better days. I wish we'd rented a car, like many other reviewers mentioned, so we could have traveled a little further. The beach was about a 20 minute bike ride from the house, so we were happy to have rented bikes.
The front yard and grounds of the house need some serious TLC, so this place would probably not work for anyone who's fussy about aesthetics. I was a little nervous about noise when we first showed up, because a group of teenagers were riding ATVs and dirt bikes up and down the street (clearly not Gerry's fault), and the noise was deafening. But we got tons of sleep both nights, and the beach is very private and lovely. If you're on a tight budget, and are looking for a little R&R, this place will definitely do the trick!
We just had an amazing getaway at Gerry's place. If you are tired of pollution and craziness of big city this place is perfect! Cozy little separate house with a smel of Nature and great view from the window, super cozy outdoor tent and if you want to enjoy the most beautiful way to the beach - don't hesisate to rent bikes from Gerry, you will enjoy that couple of miles, especially the little bridge across the bay.
There is a little meat store very close to the house, where you can buy good quality skirt stake and make it home the way you like.
And there is only 2 hours away by train from NYC.
Definitely come back!
I hate to do this because the host was nice enough. However, the cottage had a moldy and musty smell that was unpleasant for breathing. I will not stay in the future.
