About this listing
This nicely furnished studio apartment is detached from the main home, and includes two twin beds and a double futon, a nicely equipped outdoor kitchen, and shares use of the covered veranda and deck. The indoor space is compact, but a couple with two small children can sleep and shower here comfortably.
The location is very convenient to highway 130 into Puna and to highway 11 which circles much of the island, so it's very convenient to Hilo, Pahoa, Kea'au, and Volcano, as well as a great home base for exploring the entire island. I love to share Big Island travel tips and trivia, my knowledge of Hawaiian plants and culture, and farm fresh eggs and produce with you!! Guests that are also animal lovers will be most happy here, as I have numerous cats and kittens, two small dogs, and eight chickens.
Please be sure to recycle all clean paper, plastic, cans, etc. in the green bin provided in the outdoor kitchen (bottom shelf of cabinet near table). Please put food garbage in the plastic container in the sink (and/or in plastic bags) and store in the freezer--it will provide a later meal for the chickens without attracting insects. Please put other rubbish that is not recyclable (styrofoam, etc) in the large black bin in the kitchen area.
Please be sure to store most or all of your food in the refrigerator--also to try and keep insects away.
If the weather permits, please hang your wet towels, etc. on the clothesline provided outside the apartment under the eaves.
Thank you for helping us keep the Apartment mildew and bug-free!
Darya's place is truly a gem. Great location - close to Hilo and the Volcanos, easy to access and very spacious. But best of all is Darya's commitment to making her guests feel at home - we had fresh eggs and fruits awaiting our arrival as well as extra towels for the beach. Strongly recommend this space for anyone spending time on the island!
Darya was a great host, she was very welcoming and showed me where everything was and also provided me some eggs, bread and fresh fruits. The room was very clean and just what I needed for my stay. The location is great, close to Hilo, Pahoa, Volcano. She recommended some places to go out to eat, she also knows the area very well and pointed me in the right direction to see some of the attractions that you can see in this side of the island. I would definitely recommend it to anyone coming to Hilo.
Darya's apartment was amazing! A really beautiful and quiet location, with comfortable beds in a spacious room. The kitchen has everything you need and the cats are sweet. Darya gave us fresh eggs from her chicken for breakfast! I'll definitely recommend this place to everyone .
This a great location to enjoy the Hilo side (best side) of the island. The room is a comfortable size. I'm 6'4" and was concerned with the twin beds. To my surprise I was very comfortable. This is the best value for exploring the island. Read the other reviews to find out all the other perks. Darya is a great host. We had crazy weather and found our personal towels dried and folded ready for us. Thanks for a great stay.
Staying at Darya's for our visit to Big Island was great. She was super nice and was very helpful! We had a blast in Hawaii and would definitely recommend her place to anyone looking to stay.
We stayed 3 nights at Darya's studio and had a lovely stay. Darya was very welcoming and we had good conversation around a beer or two! The studio is very confortable and you have an outside kitchen well fournished if you feel like cooking. The studio is outside of the city, but you're closed from Hilo, Volcanoes Park and beaches ! Thanks a lot Darya !
Staying at studio was a nice experience. It is a little difficult to locate using the map, but Darya had given us instructions on how to reach there. She welcomed us and gave us info on some things to do while on the island. She also gave us fresh eggs and fruits for breakfast.

About the Host, Darya
I grew up in California, and came to the Big Island of Hawaii 9 years ago. I love plants and food, children and animals, art and photography. I would love to travel to Europe again, but first I hope to travel to Asia: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and to eat my way through every delicious region!
But until then, meeting people from all parts of the world as they travel to our beautiful, welcoming island is just perfect!
