This nicely furnished studio apartment is detached from the main home, and includes two twin beds and a double futon, a nicely equipped outdoor kitchen, and shares use of the covered veranda and deck. The indoor space is compact, but a couple with two small children can sleep and shower here comfortably.
The location is very convenient to highway 130 into Puna and to highway 11 which circles much of the island, so it's very convenient to Hilo, Pahoa, Kea'au, and Volcano, as well as a great home base for exploring the entire island. I love to share Big Island travel tips and trivia, my knowledge of Hawaiian plants and culture, and farm fresh eggs and produce with you!! Guests that are also animal lovers will be most happy here, as I have numerous cats and kittens, two small dogs, and eight chickens.
Please be sure to recycle all clean paper, plastic, cans, etc. in the green bin provided in the outdoor kitchen (bottom shelf of cabinet near table). Please put food garbage in the plastic container in the sink (and/or in plastic bags) and store in the freezer--it will provide a later meal for the chickens without attracting insects. Please put other rubbish that is not recyclable (styrofoam, etc) in the large black bin in the kitchen area.
Please be sure to store most or all of your food in the refrigerator--also to try and keep insects away.
If the weather permits, please hang your wet towels, etc. on the clothesline provided outside the apartment under the eaves.
Thank you for helping us keep the Apartment mildew and bug-free!
We had a very good stay at Darya's accommodation. Darya was very welcoming and accommodating. Her place is very beautiful in a quite neighborhood. She offers us fresh fruit, eggs from her own chicken, bagels and also a beer from the island (which tasted very good).
The "private room" is more a own accommodation, with a own entry and a own bathroom. The kitchen is outside.
You can arrive the supermarket, foodcourt in 10-15 min by car. The Volcano in approx 45min. The Mauna Kea in approx. 1 hour and the beachside of hilo in 30min. So you have there a very central position to all spots.
Darya was very welcoming and accommodating, giving us fresh fruit, English muffins and eggs for our breakfast and offering advice for our site seeing. The beds were very comfortable and had a small refridgerator, coffeemaker, toaster and other kitchen items to use. My sister and I would definitely stay at Darya's again!
Darya was there to greet us on our arrival and provided us with fresh eggs and fruit every morning. The cottage is very nice, albeit rustic, and located in a rural neighborhood that is conveniently located between Hilo and Puhoa. We enjoyed having breakfast in the garden every morning before heading off to explore the island. Thanks!
Darya is an amazing host, very welcoming and accommodating. She provided us with fresh eggs, fruits and more for breakfast (and some good conditioner for the hair!). Her place has a country garden feel to it, which is very nice if you want to stay close to nature. It is quiet at night, and we had a good sleep. Darya's house is close to the thermal pools and food courts (15 min drive) and a good location if you want to visit Volcano sites.
A wonderful apartment and our host Darya made our stay a pleasure, she went out of her way to assist us and make our vacation memorable. We recommend Darya's Studio Apartment to anyone visiting the island.
We had a wonderful experience at Darya's place. The room was fine, with 2 single beds, double futon, dining table and attached bathroom. The house is in a residential area a bit out of town but close to Volcano where we spent most of our time. Our hosts were lovely and we enjoyed our time. Thank you :)
Nestled on the edge of nature, we found Darya's place the perfect location to explore everything Hawai'i has to offer.

I grew up in California, and came to the Big Island of Hawaii 9 years ago. I love plants and food, children and animals, art and photography. I would love to travel to Europe again, but first I hope to travel to Asia: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and to eat my way through every delicious region!
But until then, meeting people from all parts of the world as they travel to our beautiful, welcoming island is just perfect!
