About this listing
One thousand square foot totally private studio cottage located on a gated five acre property. The cottage opens with french doors into the Ohia forest beyond with a assortment of palms and orchids. If your looking to escape the masses and enjoy the serenity but want easy ocean access this is the place for you. The Tidal Ponds and Warm Pond are just minutes away, for some of the best snorkeling on the Big Island.
There is a KIng bed and a futon couch which converts into a Double bed. The cottage sleeps two adults and one or two children.
There is a full kitchen and a charcoal grill (the charcoal is supplied)
I also supply beach towels, noddles, snorkel gear, chairs, mats, and a cooler.
I don't have local TV but I do have a collection of DVD's. I offer free long distance to the mainland and Canada. And wireless internet.
We are eight miles from Pahoa Town where there is an outdoor produce market on Sunday. The town also offers a far amount of delicious restaurants to choose from. And live music most nights if your so inclinded.
There is free public transportation within an easy walk.
The property is completely private in a botanical paradise with easy ocean access nearby.
I expect my cottage to be taken care of as well as you would take care of your own house.
I expect fans and lights to be turned off while out sightseeing during the day.
I do have to charge for an extra person after the price has been agreed upon.
Rosemarie was very accommodating at last minute's notice. My husband and I and our 1 year old daughter were very happy staying in the cottage. We loved exploring this part of Hawaii. Amazing snorkeling and quiet geothermal ocean pools. This is not the place for someone who is afraid of critters. There are lizards and frogs everywhere, especially as the cottage is designed to be open air. They're friendly but if you're not into that then this wouldn't be for you. Also just a note-- there is no cell reception with either ATT or Verizon at the cottage and wireless access is intermittent and shared with the host just a heads up if you need to be connected constantly this might not be the right choice. Other than that it is a wonderful experience and will make you feel completely secluded!
Wow, no one has ever said I had smelling towels. I know I have too many there, way more than needed. I'll check into what your smelling immediately. I wished you had said something to me directly when I stopped by to see if you needed anything.
Yes, the cottage basically is a couple steps up from camping. And there are critters in rural Puna, that's why I have mosquito netting around the king bed. Most guests have left the french doors open to enjoy the fabulous breeze from the ocean. But your right if your afraid of the geckos, this is not the place for you.
And I'd like to also add that if you've come here to lower Puna to be connected to WiFI 24/7 this is not the place. I cannot acquire two high speed internet services on one property, we are still third world down here. So the internet is shared with the main house. My quests always have 95% use when they tell me they want it. And we set times that I can check my e-mail. But like I said this is lower Puna.
And because I know this could be an inconvenience for some I keep my price for the cottage very affordable.
Rosemarie was amazing! She called a few days before we arrived to check in with us and was very helpful. Upon our arrival Rosemarie met us at her studio and provided us with an in-depth orientation of the space and the surrounding area. She was incredibly helpful. And the studio was great! It was very spacious and the amenities were great. Rosemarie provided us with beach towels, snorkeling gear, beach chairs, and a cooler. And the place looks exactly as shown in the photos. Oh, to top it off..we were there during a hurricane!! Not only did the studio stand up to incredibly high winds and lots of rain, but Rosemarie checked in with us frequently to make sure we were OK. I will definitely stay here again and recommend to all to stay here when visiting the Big Island.
This is such a lovely place in a lush green and very quiet setting. You can open up all the front and back doors which gives an absolute open and airy feeling. At night you just drape the mosquito net around your bed and listen to the coqui frogs quaking you to sleep.
If I were to visit Big Island again, I would definitely come back to Rose's house.
By the way: Rose lives on this property, too but on the other side. You can always get in touch with her if need be or be left alone.
I most definitely enjoyed my stay and regret that it was not longer.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 7 nights stay at this place with my husband and infant. Cottage has lovely surroundings - flowers, nature, seclusion. Rosemarie is a good hostess who provided us with local information of things to do. She also supply the property with a lot of extra touches such as insect repellent. fresh flowers and shopping bags to use.
Thanks Rosemarie for opening up your cool place for us to rest and enjoy the Puna vibe - snorkelling galore and lots of lava!!! Your place was far enough away from civilisation to feel in retreat, but close enough to head to Island Naturals and stock up on some organic goodies! Thank you for great hospitality and we look forward to visiting the Big Island again to see all the things we missed!!!
