Sweet place, clean. lovely, great location. Nice touches like fresh flowers in the house when we arrived. And as advertised, it is "steps from the sand." We could walk out every evening to watch the sunset on the beach. The place was really pretty, perfect location, and had everything we needed. Mary even made sure there was milk, juice, and some fruit in the house for when we got there. We would recommend the place to anyone. Two relatively minor drawbacks---one, the parking situation is incredibly tight--when the car is parked in the space, the driver has to climb over to the passenger side to get out. And often, neighbors park or place their trash cans so that it is really hard to get out of the space without hitting something, scraping the mirror off the car, etc. So just be ready for that. And there is very little space to put your clothes. Only one room has a bit of closet space and there is very little drawer space. On the other hand, that will encourage you to pack lightly, which is fine for this very casual, laid back area. Have fun.
What a wonderful home! We all loved your home and the sofa is incredibly comfy. Just steps from the beach and your own parking spot. Loved taking those bikes out for a ride to Cow's End to get breakfast. Thanks again for everything Mary. If I am coming to LA again, I will certainly be checking if your Beach Cottage is free again.
We loved Mary's Beach Cottage and is literally steps from the sand. This home is clean and cozy and had everything we needed. We were greeted by a bottle of wine and fresh flowers which was a terrific welcome to the Beach. The two new beach bikes were a bonus. My husband and I hadn't rode a bike in years, but the bike paths were easy going and a friendly way to see the area. The beds were so comfortable. Everything about this house just made you smile and be glad you picked Mary's Beach cottage. If you are in Marina del Rey on a Sunday - don't miss Shanghi Red's Brunch. It's awesome!!
Like others have said, Mary's place is exactly as described. The furnishings and space are wonderful but without question, the ultimate value is location, location, location. Being right at the water when you awake in the morning and landing back there at night makes this the perfect oasis while doing whatever it is you need to do in LA.
If Mary will have us, we'll definitely be back! Our family of four (2 adults and 2 teenage daughters) were very comfortable here.
We had a great time staying in this lovely apartment which literally is steps from the beach! The apartment was very comfortable (especially the beds!) and had the added benefit of a private parking space. Mary was a great host and I'd highly recommend staying here if visiting LA.
What a great place! We enjoyed our stay so much while visiting family in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving. We had everything we needed in this beautiful home. Loved the location near the beach and convenient to everything.
Our stay in Mary's beachside cottage was absolutely wonderful. The place is beautifully furnished - exactly as shown in the pictures. Mary is super nice and welcoming. She was there for check in, it was lovely to meet her. Check out was very uncomplicated. I would definitely recommend staying in this lovely flat!
What we liked the most:
- Beach is so close, just a few steps
- 2 bikes, brilliant for getting around in the area.
- comfy & cosy feel of the flat
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying in Mary's cosy beachside cottage. It is indeed exactly as shown in the photos. It is beautifully furnished and very comfortable (especially the sofa and lovely red chairs!). There was plenty of hot water for all 4 of us to shower consecutively
The beach was literally several steps from the door. It was October when we stayed so there was virtually no one on the beach apart from the odd dog walker or jogger. I can imagine though that it would never get busy, unlike Venice beach or Santa Monica. We emjoyed walking by the sea and cycling up to the pier.
Mary was a gracious host. She was there to welcome us personally and had left us a bottle of wine. The kitchen was well stocked with pans and utensils so it is possible to cook there rather than going out for meals. The only thing to point out however is that there is no dining table so we did perch with plates on our knees in front of the tv on the one occasion we did eat in.
One other reviewer has said there was nowhere to put their clothes. Mary has taken that criticism on board and we had empty chests of drawers in which to unpack.
Location wise - we found it perfect. It is easy to drive or cycle to Venice and Santa Monica and close enough to the airport. Venice has really changed in the five years since I last came to LA. The shops and cafes of Abbot Kinney are definitely worth a visit. We also didn't find it difficult to get to downtown LA or Universal Studios which is about an hour away, depending on traffic.
This was not my first visit to LA and it won't be my last. I now feel i have found my home from home and look forward to returning soon.
Lovely cosy cottage, and just a very short stroll to the white sands of Marina del Rey beach. Nice & clean and very locally situated to restaurants, and shops. We had a rental car and hardly used it in the area. We went out on Mary's bicycles mostly and took a ride to Santa Monica pier, it took less than 25 minutes along the beach- front bike trail which I highly recommend doing - it sure beats the heavy traffic. Thoroughly enjoyed out 3 night stay.
We were in the area for a family wedding. This was a great spot to escape the madness. It was lovely, close to the beach, and felt like a home rather than a hotel. My 90-year-old dad was able to manage the three steps to the front door without trouble. He felt very relaxed in a place that felt so warm and cozy. Thanks very much!
