Namaste and Welcome to Pokhara, Nepal!
Our Secluded Stone Home is nestled amongst a jungle like garden in a nearby village -close proximity to the famous Lakeside tourist area. We are only a few minutes walk to the lake and from there you continue on to the main strip of eateries, shops, temples, boat rides etc. a 15min walk or quick bike ride away.
If you thrive on having an authentic experience- off the beaten track but not too far off- then you'll love the rustic, yet charming peacefulness.
Your bedroom has your own separate entrance that steps out to a covered thatched porch. This allows you the privacy to wake, make your cup of morning coffee and relax with your view of the outdoors- or evenings reflecting on a glorious day.
Our bathroom options are as unique as the location and house. For those of you that enjoy a shower Afresco looking up to the sky above (which is our personal favorite) or those that like to keep their business inside we can provide both. Please note: in the cold season our Alfresco option is indeed left for the more Northern mountain person! With a recent additional outdoor bathtub shell that sits in a peaceful part of the garden to enjoy as a refreshing dip to cool off in the monsoon, or a night time soak under the stars.
A long thatched covered porch houses a hammock for those who want to take in the garden, a book or simply reflect and rest their muscles after an adventurous trek. Or lay back and stretch out in our couch designed from a retired boat.
The kitchen is in an open concept living space and is enjoyed by us for that very reason. However small, it is equipped with the essentials for cooking. We would recommend that you make a stop at a supermarket for all your cooking supplies (as they are not provided in the rate) prior to arrival.
Fresh local eggs, vegetables, milk and curd are available for purchase from the locals- depending on season.
Given that Buddhi has been praised for his local culinary skills, coupled with guest requests for him to give away his secrets- we are happy to offer a truly Nepali cooking experience for a moderate fee. This to include: an early morning ride into town to visit the local vegetable and fruit market where you will have the opportunity to learn about the local seasonal fare, take photos and purchase our items for the evenings dinner. This is an interactive experience whereby come dusk we all pool our energy to prep to begin cooking. Buddhi will help walk you towards a successful creation of your own curry delight so that one day you can throw a Nepali-themed party and wow friends and family with the local dish known as Dal Bhat.
Our campfire pit is situated in the center of the garden and has a terrific view of a star lit sky and full moon rising; a fabulous way to spend an evening in the cold season.
Prudence is our little gem of a dog and is the queen of the garden..so lets hope you like to be greeted with a wagging tail!
Sarangkot is a sought after destination not only for the paragliding community, but most tourist hike up to catch a glimpse of sunrise and the great Annapurna Range- the trail leading up is accessible seconds from your door step...all that it requires is an early morning rise, a yawn, a cuppa and you're on your way. The return trip leading directly back to your cozy room!!
Buddhi was born and raised in Sarangkot -your take off point for Paragliding. He is a Paragliding Pilot for one of the Pioneering Companies "Blue Sky Paragliding" and would be happy to arrange all your flight requests. Pokhara is one of the best places in the world to fly given the conditions and access. Get ready to fly high over the lake with spectacular views!
We are looking to open our home to mature, excited International travelers that can handle a few cobwebs, loads of birds, owls, fox and perhaps a sneak peak at a jungle cat and not be alarmed but overjoyed!! (having recently encountered 2 sightings within several meters..the beauty of the jungle cat!)
Wifi is available, however this is Nepal which means that we are always encountering load shedding - but you will find that if we don't have a connection here then others are experiencing the same issues. You are welcome to our DVD collection for your lap top & our selection of books.
We can provide you with any requests prior to your arrival from a local tour, adventure sports and a experienced trekking guide that can help you maximize your adventure. If you wish to stay with us to prior to trekking you may want to consider giving yourself ample time to organize permits, guides, desired trek etc. We can store your luggage for you with a confirmed return booking. Local taxi drivers can also be arranged for your sight seeing needs.
Transfers to and from Airport can be arranged. Pokhara Airport is a 15min taxi ride.
We look forward to sharing your experience and enhancing your stay in a region of the world that is unlike any other.
Staying with Buddhi and Wendy (and Prudence) has been a wonderful experience. We picked vegetables in the garden for dinner and drank Buddhi’s homemade ginger tea for colds (with honey from his dad’s beehives). Wendy talked to me about living in harmony with the land and you can see that they really do this, not only taking from the earth and surroundings but returning to it in equal measure. Buddhi and Wendy are two of the most giving and generous people I have met. Theirs is a very pretty and comfortable home but more than that, it is a place resonating with love and good energy. It was so nice to be a part of it for a while and I hope I will get to visit them again.
Buddhi and I are overjoyed to have met and hosted you in our home. You certainly are one beautiful lady with a lot of magical insight.
Giving thanks to you for arriving bearing gifts and celebrating Chinese New Year- the year of the Horse..something that I will never forget... as I awoke to a vivid dream that very same day of running horses- to which you informed me! I Love when that happens!!
We hope to see you back here in Pokhara and have the opportunity to meet your mother/daughter. Namaste dear Karen Buddhi and Wendy
Well we had an amazing experience.
We (me and my wife) were looking for a nice and quiet place in which we could relax and have that homie experience.
Buddhi received us in a very kind way and allowed us to use all the facilities at the house. He was also very helpful at all times with advises.
The house was truly spotless and decorated so nicely, together with the incredible garden, this place is a real paradise.
We advise everyone who wishes to enjoy a local and chilled experience to visit Buddhi and Wendy.
Thanks a lot for your kindness, hope to see you guys again!
PS: Regards to Prudence!
Charmiing cottage in amongst the rice paddies close the lake. If you are looking for peace and tranquility in a rural setting yet close enough to town to walk in 20 minutes you should definitely give Buddhi and Wendy's place serious consideration. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The guest room is large with king bed and separate side entry. Wendy thoughtfully provides little extras like washing stuff and dressing gown and I even got some lovely chocolate coated ginger. The garden is large and matrure and one can happily spend an afternoon lazing in the hammock or lounging on the "boat sofa" on the porch. One feature I really liked was the outdoor shower (just recently remodelled). Nice and refreshing showering alfresco. At night time it was lovely to sit on the porch with a bottle of Everest beer chatting with Wendy and watching the fireflies while Buddhi worked his magic in the kitchen.
As mentioned earlier, the house is about 20 minute walk from the main part of Lakeside. However, if you don't fancy the walk a bicycle or scooter can easily be rented.
I must say a special thanks to Wendy for literally arranging every aspect of the domestic side of my trip. She arranged my guest house in Kathmandu for the first night with airport transfers, domestic flights to and from Pokhara also with transfer and Buddhi even booked my paragliding course for me. You'd be hard pressed to find hosts anywhere else who would go to such lengths to ensure your trip is stress free.
All in all, a wonderful stay with wonderful hosts in a wonderful cottage. Don't miss out.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Patrick for being such a delightful guest. Buddhi was more than happy to have a fellow Paraglider in the house to share in the day's experience of flying in the Himalayan - Buddhi's backyard & playground since childhood. And who wouldn't love a guest that presents you with Godiva chocolate on arrival! I stared at the box for days before the Grand Opening...hee hee! A true pleasure. We hope to see Patrick and his lovely family back for a visit in the future...you are most welcome. Namaste Wendy and Buddhi
Whether you are traveling to Pokhara to find authentic cultural experiences, a base for trekking, tandem paragliding with confidence, or just a relaxing retreat to unplug, you are crazy if you don't stay here. Wendy and Buddhi are excellent hosts with the sincere desire to make you feel at home while also helping you shape the experience you desire. Their village home is close enough to walk into town but also secluded enough to make you feel you are miles away from everything. Depending on the time of year, they will help you immerse yourself in your dream experience. Buddhi is a fantastic paragliding pilot with one of the most safety-conscious and premiere companies in Pokhara (Blue Sky). Also, I highly recommend you take them up on the offer of a cooking lesson--Wendy can help you navigate through the market and Buddhi is a fantastic cook and patient teacher. When you arrive in Pokhara, take Wendy's advice and ask the taxi driver to take you by the grocery store. This way you have transportation for all your bags and you won't have to go out the next day to get them. And believe me, you will be so happy that next day to laze in the hammock while having a pleasant conversation with Wendy rather than spending your day with shopping chores! I must say, I am already jealous about your visit with them!!!
Namaste, Cindy's arrival was delayed into the late evening due to a strike which she handled with grace. She was helped by a fellow local passenger who happened to live nearby and knew us and delivered her to our gate. The very next day the women were planting rice in front of our house asking if she would join in-and off she went learning and planting...so I think that pretty much sums it up for the 19days spent in our home...the level of interaction, communication, respect for our home, soaking up the Culture and embracing the true meaning of the "Experience" of our unique surroundings within the Village - IS exactly the guest we encourage and the purpose of us opening up our home. We wish her an amazing onward journey filled with much adventure and thank her for sharing her wonderful spirit.
