The Space

The barn (self-catering)

We have restored the barn and converted it into a rustic cottage.
It sleeps two with the option of an extra bed.
The barn is completely open-plan on three levels.

The bathroom and small sitting area are on the bottom floor (TV, DVD player, dvd library and books are available).

The well-equipped kitchen and dining area are on the middle floor and the bedroom is on the top floor (mezzanine floor).

The barn has underfloor heating and a wood-burning log fire.

We are located in an idyllic setting on top of a hill overlooking the tidal estuary of Ortigueira and the ocean beyond.

It takes only 10 minutes by car to get into town and to the beach (blue flag beach).

Our Finca is part of a small hamlet and consists of a main house, a barn and a 10.000 square meter smallholding with a small veggie patch, horse paddocks ,a chicken pen etc..

The buildings originate from the 15th century and have been left to ruin before we acquired the property.

The walls are made of stone,up to one meter thick and the roof is made of traditional black fish scale slate from a local mine.

The wood used is mainly chestnut (which grows locally) and the wooden ceilings are all exposed.

Many of the original beams have been restored and reused and we have utilized only natural materials for building (lime for pointing and plastering, linseed oil for treating the wood etc.).

Unspoiled nature
Deserted beaches
Many rivers and estuaries
Mountains and forests
Free roaming horses and much more ...

  • Después de un par de días, nos hemos vuelto a casa súper relajados. El apartamento es genial (la cocina muy completa, la ducha estupenda y una chimenea con un montón de leña) y Dalal y su pareja nos atendieron de maravilla. Muy recomendable!!

  • What an enjoyable, relaxing place to stay in northern Galicia along the Rías Altas. The cabana is off the beaten track -- something we wanted -- and is perfectly located for those wanting to spend time on beaches, hills / cliffs, and in charming villages. Dalal and Simon were terrific hosts as well.

  • The barn cottage is spectacularly renovated. Beautiful, quite private, and so comfortable -- the kitchen is great and the heated floors are a really nice touch. It has its own small, well designed garden area, and guests are encouraged to use the shared front garden for views of the bay, mountains, and fantastic sunsets. Dee is super thoughtful -- she had wine, cheese and bread waiting for us, and the cottage is fully stocked with DVDs, board games and pamphlets for everything to do in the area. It's a really lovely and unique spot and Dee and her family run it super professionally.

Dee also leads natural horsemanship workshops, horse rides and trips -- which we loved! Her passion for the horses is obvious and infectious. And riding around the hills nearby the cottage is a wonderful way to spend a few hours (or days!)

The area around the cottage is a great part of the country to explore and relax in. To the east are amazing sandy beaches with headlands and caves, to the west are sea cliffs that truly feel like the end of the world, they're spectacular. And in between there's great seafood and a bunch of cute towns to wander around.

    Great trip!

Our family Simon, originally from England, has traveled all over the world and is very passionate about surfing. He has been living abroad since he was a teenager and bought his first house on Lanzarote, Canary Islands. He loves making music, working on the house, also he is a fantastic gardener and cooks amazing curries! Dalal was born in Germany and after finishing her career in hotel management she has lived and traveled all over. Her biggest passion are horses and Natural Horsemanship. She loves having people stay over and taking them on tours around beautiful Galicia. Salvador is our 9-year-old son. He is a happy little puppy, has a very social nature and being trilingual makes it easy for him to mingle! Then there are the animals of course: 3 horses, chickens, a couple of goats, a cat, a dog etc. Our goals When Simon and I met, we decided to take off together to find us a home. We were looking for a place that was off the beaten track, yet not too far from our families. It had to be near surf, green and with plenty of water resources for our future animals and the planned farm and organic veggie garden. 4 years ago we drove through Galicia with our camper van and simply fell in love! We found an amazing stone ruin with views and land…and that’s when the project started! We are working on becoming self-sustainable and - our main goal is to create a healthy environment and to share it with other people - which is what gives us the most joy.
