From the host
Sundari Gardens is located in one of the most pristine and unspoiled areas of Big Island. Only minutes from the famous Red Road that offers a rolling scenic view of tropical forest and turquoise blue sea shore. You will be amazed by these raw powerful landscapes and rhythmic waves crashing against rugged lava coastlines. The "Red Road" takes you through lush coconut & mango groves, tropical rainforests, tranquil ocean side parks, plantations and lava fields. You won't see any corporate resort and tourist stores on this road. Time stops here and mother nature opens you to an old Hawaiian dream of wild beauty and grace.
Within a short drive, you can reach some lovely black sand beaches including the new beach at Isaac Hale park as well as Kehena beach. There is a gathering on this beach on Sunday afternoons if you are looking to hang with the locals. There are also awesome hot springs near the ocean and plenty of unique natural places to explore such as Kilauea volcano, green sand beach and much more. Check out our very local Saturday morning farmers market minutes down the road at Uncle Roberts. There is music and all kinds of handmade crafts, medicines, interesting food and interesting local characters! On Sundays there is also the Pahoa farmers market. On Sunday afternoons our neighbors host a Sunday afternoon ecstatic dance. Ten minutes down the road, Hawaiian Sanctuary has a Friday evening ecstatic dance as well. There are always workshops, concerts and events going on in the area. Check out the bulletin board at our natural food store in Pahoa while you're here.
There are a number of nice restaurants in Pahoa town within a short drive including grills, bakeries, breakfast, Italian, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Vietnamese, Acai bowls, Poke, Pizza and more! Our friendly residents and staff which you will meet on our land have plenty of knowledge of this part of Big Island to share with our guests. If our guests prefer having their privacy, we can be reached only when they need help. We share the spirit of Aloha with you. This neighborhood offers endless discoveries of beautiful spots along the seashore and in the forest, interesting people and rich cultural activities. This is a very colorful community of artists, writers, organic farmers, sustainable living pioneers and free spirits. Humpback whales visit this part of ocean in the winter months. Dolphins often frequent our local beaches.
You will be enchanted by the magic of the nature and the unique blend of cultures of this area. This neighborhood offers endless discoveries of beautiful spots along the seashore and in the forest, wonderful people and rich cultural activities. We offer you a unique experience in the paradise!

We visited the Big Island of Hawaii in 2017 and fell in love with a beautiful piece of land. For the next four years we worked creating a beautiful landscape with gardens, fruit trees, ponds and comfortable buildings for people to come stay in. To rest and renew. We are happy to share this magical space with you!
