Lovely apartment with a huge terrace on the Rhone river in Provence.
Among the hundreds of nearby sites are Avignon, Arles, Pont du Gard, In addition to sightseeing there are hundreds of wineries you can visit, gourmet restaurants, canal trips and much more. The apartment has broadband WIFI, satellite TV from the UK as well as local French cable, 1.5 bath, a full kitchen and many more amenities. Parking is free in a secure parking lot across the street or for 75 euros per week in a garage.
Fully modernized, the apartment is quiet and sunny with 5 m (16 ft) high ceilings. It consists of three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen/dining room, a home office with a new Dell computer and a bathroom and separate toilet. The kitchen and bathrooms were completely redone in January 2009.
It is within walking distance of all Beaucaire’s attractions, from the picturesque ruined castle to the lively canal promenade, as well as restaurants, cafés and shops.
Only 15 km from Arles and Saint Rémy and 25 km from Avignon, Beaucaire is an ideal touring base from which to explore Provence, the Camargue, the Languedoc and much of the south of France. Nearby attractions include Roman amphitheaters, castles, medieval villages, Van Gogh landscapes, open-air markets, horse-riding, wine-tasting and boating.
It’s a wonderful romantic holiday rental for family and friends to enjoy historic Provence and the south of France combined with the comforts of home!
Beaucaire is an ancient city dating back to pre-Roman times. From the 15th to the 19th centuries it was the largest market in the Mediterranean region, Because of this many magnificent merchants' palaces were built throughout the town. Architecturally the town is one of the best places to visit for 15-19th century palatial architecture.
There is a small train station in Beaucaire and a larger station in Tarascon, 1 km from the apartment. There also is regular bus service to Nimes and Avignon.
Four of us (two couples) shared Barney's lovely Beaucaire flat over Easter Holiday. It was the perfect size for 4 adults and you felt immediately at home.
Barney was very responsive during the booking process and easily answered all of our questions. For checking-in, his management agents met us very promptly at the flat. They were warm and welcoming and accommodated our late arrival due to train delays. His agent welcomed us with a nice bottle of rose from the local region too. After a day of travel, it was nice to sit on the terrace and enjoy the wine as we put our feet up and started to soak up France.
We bought groceries at the local grocery store and markets and made breakfast in the kitchen before heading out for the day and exploring the Avignon region. The kitchen had everything you could want including some leftover sundries such as oil, salt, and pepper, which was super helpful. You'll also find a wine opener, which is handy after you buy wine from the local region. There were plenty of plates, drinking glasses, mugs, wine glasses, flatware, etc. Our friends noted that we should have bought foil to toast our croissants from the boulangerie.
The space is brightly decorated and clean. We enjoyed breakfast and happy hour / tea time on the open terrace, which was just gorgeous on the sunny days.
For those who are curious, the bathroom shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure, even with 4 adults cycling through. We did not use the washing machine but there is one should you need it.
For those who are looking to relax, the flat is pretty quiet. When you open the shutters and windows, you get lots of natural lighting and a fresh breeze.
Minor areas of improvement:
- Softer and bigger towels would have been a nice-to-have. We found the towels to be a little rough but figured it was because they were air-dried. No big deal.
- Basic hand-washing soap for each bathroom sink would have also been nice. Again, no big deal.
Just to clarify, as this wasn't obvious to me the first time I read the listing, Barney's flat is 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath (toilet, sink, shower), 1 small half bath (toilet and sink).
We absolutely would recommend Barney's flat and Beaucaire as a base for exploring this region. We were able to visit the Pont du Gard, to do some wine tasting in Chateauneuf du Pape, to explore the beautiful French market and Van Gogh exhibits in Arles all in about 20-50 mins easy drive.

Great for families. Excellent base for exploring the Provence region by car. Ample parking. Great market (Sun & Thurs) at Place Georges Clemenceau, just a three minutes walk away. Nice cafe just around the corner. Clean. Free internet. Highly recommended.
The apartment, directly below the castle of Beaucaire, is very large and comfortable with a well-appointed kitchen. The attractive artwork in every room is a bonus. Restaurants and markets are in easy walking distance. Beaucaire is a highly underrated spot. We spent 4 nights and found the location perfect for day trips to Nimes, La Camargue, Pont du Gard, etc. Don't miss the nearby Roman winery, Mas des Tourelles, and the equally close by troglodyte Abbey of St Roman and curious caves of the hermits nearby. A highly recommended location for those who like being close to everything but away from tourist hoards.
