About This Listing
The house in the center of Mahon, built 1907. A construction typical of the islands, built with sandstone. Currently renovated to suit the needs of today. The house has four apartments. Comfortable, clean and sober.
We were placed on the ground floor at the door 118.
The apartment is organized via a light step that relates the different rooms of the house. The bedroom and bathroom on the front street, followed by the kitchen and dining room overlooking the courtyard of the house. The apartment has a small patio and a terrace that looks over the vast esplanade, sometimes empty sometimes full of cars, the Noria December Worm. A wonderful sunset every evening accompanies the back of the house.
You rent the full apartment so everything on it is for you to use.
We prefer the space clean so we keep things like clothesline, iron board and iron in a separate room by the entrance to which you have access too.
Interaction with Guests
We live in Barcelona most of the year.
We try to vein Menorca as much as we can but this is sometimes limited to weekends during spring and autum.
Most of August and parts of July and September we are in Menorca.
We leave things prepared in case we are not in Menorca when our guests arrive.
There is always a guide book on Menorca + map of the island + our personal guide and notes for an "off" the guides Menorcan experience
Mahon is a very small city. The apartment is at walking distance from the city center and the port. 5 minutes walking from the apartment, you can find the food market and a supermarket beneath. Bakery, butchers, fruits and vegetables.....
In uptown Maó, there is many possibilities to have a bite: Ses Forquilles, Cristanal y Gradinata, el Refectori at Es Claustre, Mirador Cafè, Santa Rita...... all in the guidebook
Also, lots of options in the Port
Next to the apartment, there is the biggest open air parking in uptown Maó. Half the space (white) is free and the rest (orange) is paying: 20 cents/hour and you can pay up to 8 hours (1,60€/day)
In Minorca, public transport is very limited.
A small car or motorcycle will take you almost everywhere………one deserves to know some places only after some effort…….
Other Things to Note
Sometimes, when there is wind from the north, you may feel some odor coming from the sewer. This is all around Maó old town. Not just the apartment.
· Smoking: allowed in the terrace
· Bathroom: Main observance in the apartment is about sewage. The sewer system in Maó is old and is better to take precautions to avoid nasty problems:
· do not flush toilet paper, napkins or bany towels.
· use the toilet bin as much as you can for disposal of toilet papers, napkins, baby towels, tampons etc.
· sand: after a day at the beach we may return home with sand on us that we normally wash out at the shower. This accumulates and may obstruct sewer pipes too. Please, avoid it. Clean the sand on you before arriving home.
· Garbage bags have to be left in the street from 21.00 on, all weekdays but Saturday.
· There is recycling containers (paper, plastic and glass) near the apartment and in Sinia d'Es Cuc parking.
Dani was so kind from the begining offering us to find us to the airport.
Later we found a nice appartment in the center town with a very new Mediterranean style decorated very beautifully.
A perfect place to spend a few days in Maó.
Great little apartment close to city centre and the harbour. Comfortable bed, nice shower and kitchen facilities. We didn't actually meet Dani and marta, but the check in and out was easy and perfectly arranged. Loved our stay on Menorca and will definitely come back!
Sehr hilfsbereite Gastgeber - das Apartment liegt sehr zentral und ist sehr wohnlich. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in Mahon sehr genossen und kommen bestimmt irgendwann wieder!
We spent over a week in Menorca at the apartment of Marta and Dani and it was a great experience: Booking, contact and directions prior to arrival were prompt, accurate and detailed. The apartments are in a charming house very close to the centre of Mahón, modern, clean, spacious and functionally furnished. Parking facilities are literally across the street, while the markets (fish, veggies and supermarket) are 5 minutes on foot from the house.
Marta and Dani were excellent hosts: welcome was very friendly with clear indications and plenty of suggestions, tips and advice about the island. During our stay they responded in no time to any questions we had and were flexible to always make us feel at home.
An excellent recommendation.
