This is a unique place. If you are searching for a one of a kind destination in the mountains that feels like home, not a condo or hotel experience, this is it. A charming guest house on a private horse ranch residence just outside of Mammoth Lakes, California. There is nothing comparable in the Eastern Sierra. The Elevation is 6,300 ft. Located 15 minutes from Mammoth/Yosemite airport. Car rental is available at the airport. The guest house is an acre from the main house up the drive, very private. The second story of the immaculate up-scale equestrian stable is bright and airy, well appointed, fresh and clean. No horse smells. This is not a conversion of a rough and tumble unused space in a barn. This is 1,100 square feet of cozy heaven. Something very organic about sleeping upstairs in a barn. Views for 60 miles with private deck and gas barbeque. A full kitchen complete with spices & herbs, Keurig coffee maker, all cooking utensils. A full bath with antique claw foot soaking tub. Cozy fireplace in living room. One bedroom with exceptional linens. There is a also an antique daybed for additional sleeping for friends. The guesthouse is best suited to accommodate three or less. Can add an extra person(s) with additional fee. Not suitable for small children. The salt water swimming pool is available to guests in the summer season during the day. This is the only retreat of it's kind in Mono county. Close to Skiing/Boarding, Golf, Climbing, Fishing Lakes & Creeks, Hiking, Biking, all in a private setting. Completely furnished from linens to martini shaker. There are wandering friendly French toulouse geese on the grounds, a couple horses to pet and a few house dogs that do not travel to the guest house, and will leave you alone. A quiet, private, peaceful, home away from home. A true getaway destination minutes from all that the Sierra's have to offer.
I do not allow dogs inside of the guesthouse. I can recommend dog accommodation if needed.
I will not except a booking request without prior communication with potential guests . This is a private residence, not a rental condo or impersonal hotel.
Military discounts are available.
Please leave the guesthouse as clean and tidy as you found it. Please treat my home as if it were your home.
California is in extreme drought conditions. Please be water conscious and conserve.
Please No Smoking in the guesthouse, stable, or on the grounds.
Please do not leave food in your car, or on the deck. This is a wildlife area. "Food" includes any item with a scent, regardless of packaging.
Fish cleaning stations are available at all of the lakes in the area, or I can recommend one for you. Please do not dispose of fish entrails in the trash bins on the ranch.
Please remember to close the main door to the stable once you are in or out of the stable at all times.
Our swimming pool is available for daylight use in the summer. Please no swimming at night.
The pool is not designed for diving.
Deep end of pool is 5.7ft./ Shallow end of pool is 3.7ft.

For fire safely, Please do not use your gas bbq if windy conditions are present.
Please clean grill completely and replace the cover when you are finished cooking.
We have a "Dark Sky" policy in Mono county. It's a mountain thing! To avoid light pollution for other star gazers in the area, the interior lights on the first floor of the stable are very bright and are to be turned off once you are settled in up in the guesthouse. The horses also prefer to sleep in natural light.
Horses are not available for riding.
Please do not feed the horses. They will attempt to talk you out of this idea.. They are on a restricted diet. They maintain a zero snack tolerance . Petting is always welcome.
Please respect the privacy of our neighbors and our neighborhood.
Check out time is 11:00 am - Check in time is 2:00 pm
Thank you for honoring the requests on this list.
Enjoy your stay.
We had a amazing time at Carol's beautiful barn and home. She was so warm and welcoming. It was charming to sleep above the geese and horses. Unfortunately our stay was cut short by a major forest fire, Carol was still graceful and kind despite the stress and trauma of the fire. Carol we are sending our good thoughts and thanks for all of your kindness.
My hubby and I stayed at Carol's place for a weekend and it was amazing! Apartment is really nice and cozy, you will feel like in the middle of French village. Apartment is part of the barn with horses and geese downstairs. It us actually really nice barn and kinda cool to stay there, pretty unique place. Views from balcony are just best. Night sky feels so close, great for star gazing. It is just around 40 mins drive to Mammoth Lakes or Bishop, centrally located.
Carol and Mike are very nice and friendly, Carol welcomed us personally upon our arrival, with great cheerful attitude made us feel very welcome.
Overall great place to stay and real gem in the rock. We highly recommend it!
We loved our stay here! Carol welcomed us on arrival and made us feel at home. We loved hearing the horses and geese and watching the herd of deer pass by each day. The place was very comfortable and well stocked for cooking in. We enjoyed the board games and especially the evening rounds of Jenga! Mammoth Mountain was a short drive, but long enough to get us out of town. A very special experience.
Carol's place is amazing. We felt at home from the first moment we met her and stepped inside. Warm, clean, cozy but not cramped is how the loft above the barn felt. All of the accommodations were exactly as pictured and described. The fresh mountain air, the view from the deck, the crisp and refreshing water make you feel like you're somewhere special. I could not have imagined a better place to get away. The sunrises and sunsets will melt your heart, and the night sky will leave you in wonderment.
We were close enough to Mammoth and Bishop to explore the area (and beyond!) yet far enough away to not feel the squeeze of the grid. It is so quiet and peaceful that you'll never want to leave. Carol made sure we had everything we needed, and always greeted us with a smile and warm conversation when our paths crossed. She has put her heart and soul into this place. One cannot mistake the genuine hospitality for anything less.
If you're considering this place or another, look no further. Seriously, stop and book it now. There are many reasons why people stay here more than once. I started planning my return trip on the first day of this vacation.
Thank you ever so much, Carol! This was exactly what we needed to get away, get out, and stay in! You will see us again when the Milky Way rises higher and brighter and the wildflowers are in bloom!

Wow!!! A few that you would not believe, very clean and cozy. My kids loved the place and never want to leave. Carol is a great host, she made sure everything was ok with us. If you're seeking a very private retreat then this is it. It's a long drive from San Francisco to Mammoth Lakes, but it's worth it!!!
Thanks Carol and Mike
This is a great place to stay! Such a beautiful view and in a gorgeous tucked away area. The hosts are so nice and responsive! We loved our time here.
Spectacular views, a lovely and cozy guest house, two beautiful horses and 3 adorable geese, and more importantly two genuine and gracious hosts are what you get if you decide to stay at Carol and Mike's place. My husband, my two girls (ages 11 and 12), and I fell in love with the ranch and really felt at home. We can't wait to come back! It was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of skiing in Mammoth. If you are looking for a marvelous mountain retreat, do yourself a favor and look no more!
I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and love a life enjoying the outdoors. I have lived here for years and have a unique knowledge of the area that comes from being a long time resident of the eastern Sierra. I ride dressage horses, grow organic vegetables, ski, swim, hike, anything that is part of the outdoors, is my home. I am a neatfreak. I have more then five things I cannot live without. Some of them would be kindness, respect for nature, a healthy lifestyle, horses, fresh air, good friends, food, wine, and travel.
I also have a farm in the Napa Valley in Northern California where I press my own organic olive oil, grow organic truffles, and one day will make my own hand crafted organic wine, grown strictly with water that is harvested by rainfall, not a drop from the aquifer . It is a labor of love.
I have traveled all over the world and haven't found a country I didn't want to live in. I like all types of music and food, as long as it is made with love.
