About this listing
I have a large 1 bedroom apartment in the Lower East Side with a full kitchen, bathroom and plenty of closet space. I have a small balcony where you can stand and take in the views of the city. There are large windows that let in a ton of light. The bedroom has a very comfortable queen-sized bed, and there is a queen-sized air mattress located in the living room closet, as well.
You will have the whole place to yourself. My apt is on the 4th floor - there is an elevator in the building as well as a laundry room (3rd floor). I have reliable wifi and like a true NYer I do not own a TV.
The Delancey Street subway station is a one minute walk from my front door.
Ludlow is a very popular street on the weekends - at night on Friday and Saturday you will hear noise from the street - so if you are a light sleeper or get annoyed by the noises of NYC my apt may not be for you. =)
3 blocks away you are in China Town.
4 blocks away you in Little Italy.
6 blocks away you are in SoHo.
5 blocks away you in the East Village.
My husband is a writer we have a mural in our living room based on his manifesto - The Life and Times of a Remarkable Misfit. We have custom designed our apartment to reflect the ideals we live our life by.
No smoking at any time! I am severely allergic to smoke. Other than that enjoy your time and treat my apartment as our own.
Great experience dealing with Melissa & Tony to stay in this beautiful apartment. Had everything we needed, in a superb location of NYC on great subway lines to get around the city.
Everything was as described in the listing. Traffic noise could be heard through most evenings but the soundproofing in the bedroom was pretty good so didn't disturb a decent sleep.
Would happily stay again when we're back in NYC. Overall, a great experience and would recommend to other Airbnb-ers. Thanks Melissa!
We very much enjoyed our stay.
Melissa has a bright, roomy and artistically adorned apartment in a perfect location for anyone who loves restaurants, shops, live music, street life. The apartment is on the fourth floor and has a little balcony that's great for street-watching. The surrounding apartments are very quiet, but a little street noise (sirens, horns) does filter up. (It didn't bother us at all, but it's possible that it might be a bit much for people who need absolute quiet to sleep.) A subway stop is right around the corner, and is useful for going to the Village, Midtown or Brooklyn. The Williamsburg bridge is also nearby, and it's very easy to walk over and explore the neighborhood.
We always found Melissa and Tony to be responsive with any questions we had, and the whole process was quite smooth. They were also kind in letting us in earlier in the day than advertised.
Some tips for the neighbourhood:
Restaurants: Mission Chinese (incendiary creative Szechuan cooking), Barrio Chino (superb Mexican food), Black Seed (a 10-minute walk, but incredible bagels), Taim (delicious Israeli take-out on Spring St), SakaMai (creative Japanese comfort food, many different kinds of sake), Il Laboratorio del Gelato (intense gelato). If you want a special night out, we had one of the best meals of our lives at Luksus in Greenpoint in Brooklyn - words cannot describe how good it was.
Bars/Lounges: Mercury Lounge (excellent for live music), Top Hops Beer Shop (huge selection of beer, to stay or to go)
Groceries: Whole Foods is a 10-minute walk away
Coffee: Caffe Vita is downstairs; also check out Grumpy's on Essex
The apartment was pretty spacious. The subway is right on the corner. I thought that someone would meet us at the place to let us in and show use where things were. My mistake. There was some initial confusion about where things like towels and sheets were located but it worked out. Never found out where to take out the trash however. The place was clean. We would have loved some chairs to sit in to enjoy our breakfast. Would also appreciated curtains in the living room since this is counted as a bed for someone to sleep and change. I would not call this as having two beds since the other "bed" is a couch. It just fit my tiny 14 year old daughter. The best coffee to be had was right down the street and there was a market super close. I only interacted with Melissa once and then everything else is done by email with her brother Tony. That felt kinda sketchy to me but that is just my lack of trust and experience. My kids had a great time watching all the people on Friday night but other than that it is fairly quiet.
This place was great! It was close to everything and all sorts of tasty restaurants. Melissa and coordination with Tony was great and easy, no hassle getting the keys. The only complaint would be the noise. Ludlow is a one lane one way street, so there are some frustrated drivers out there who like to lay on the horn. If you are a light sleepier this may be annoying. Other than that, the place was great.
Melissa's place was perfect. She responded very quickly and answered all my questions before I confirmed the booking. Melissa's brother-in-law Tony checked us in and he was very friendly and accommodating when we needed to quickly drop our bags off earlier than the check-in time. The place was large and bright with great windows. Everything was clean and the apartment building itself felt very safe. Can’t beat the location, just two blocks from the subway and unlimited options for food and bars. Would love to stay here again, highly recommend it.
My friend and I found the apartment perfect for our short stay in New York. The location was ideal with lots of great, vibey restaurants and bars close by. The apartment was "lived in" but clean and quite spacious for NY. Although we did not meet Melissa, the checkin and out went perfectly and Tony was extremely accommodating.
