About this listing

The space

We live in a beautiful, rural area known as the "Upper Valley" on the Ompompanoosuc River in Norwich, Vermont just six miles (a ten minute drive) from Dartmouth College. Step out the front door of our newly built Victorian farmhouse and relax with a book on the covered front porch, canoe or kayak on the river or take a hike on one of the many trails in our neighborhood that will take you by fields of cows, mountain views, and river valleys.

The guest room is well appointed with comfortable linens, a queen-sized bed and is decorated with soothing colors and fabrics. Your bedroom and adjoining private bath are situated on the third floor which you will have entirely to yourself. There is also a rollaway cot that can be pulled out to use if you need an extra single bed. NOTE: If you're traveling as a family or as a larger group, we do have an extra bedroom which is also located on the third floor with a double bed that sleeps an additional two people comfortably. This second bedroom also shares the private bath.

The private bathroom which has vintage fixtures, a claw foot tub, and fluffy towels is bright and cheerful and looks out over a grassy hillside.

If you'd like breakfast, we'll make you coffee and tea in the morning along with yogurt, granola, muesli, fruit, fresh King Arthur Bread, and locally-made fruit preserves.

We have high speed internet and parking, a fully equipped kitchen -that you are free to use - as well as an extra refrigerator in which to store your perishables.

This is the perfect spot to come for a little R&R in northern New England or if you are in the area visiting Dartmouth College, the Tuck School of Business, Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth Medical School, King Arthur Flour or are just here to appreciate the abundant natural beauty of the area. Nearby Hanover boasts some fun restaurants, a vibrant seasonal farmers market, a movie theater, and the Hood Art Museum. The year-round outdoor opportunities can't be beat: we're close to the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, NH, the new Nordic Center in Strafford, Whaleback Mountain, skating ponds, waterfalls, mountain biking trails, the Appalachian Trail, and fantastic day hikes. We'd love to recommend fun destinations to make your stay even more special.

Great experience, location near Dartmouth was optimal for my trips back and forth to campus. Very nice and welcoming home. Enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the friendly felines outside.

You couldn't ask for a better host than Lisa, the owner of this property ( and her husband Ken! ). She made us feel immediately welcomed, was flexible in terms of our arrival, catered to our needs, and provided a wonderful place to stay to enjoy the nearly non-existent fall foliage during the weekend we chose. It was not a wasted trip, however, because everything about our long weekend was great. The nearby town was close enough to go for meals and had an awesome menu, Dartmouth and the town of Hanover were close by and lovely to visit, and just enjoying the ambience of Lisa and Ken's house was a treat. She provided a very tasty continental breakfast of locally made jam, bread, yogurt, granola, plenty of fruit, and good coffee. This was a nice feature of this airbnb listing because we could leisurely get up, eat something and not have to rush out to the town to have breakfast each day. The smell of coffee in the guest room was heavenly to wake up to! Lisa and Ken were interesting and easy to talk to and we loved every minute of our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

Lisa is SUCH a gracious, accommodating hostess and all-round kind person. It was a wonderful stay! My room and separate bath were spacious and charming. Their house and setting is beautiful and calming. The fact that it was less than a 10 min drive to Dartmouth College made it the perfect place for me to stay.

I stayed in Lisa's house for a month, it was a great place to stay, beautiful house, Lisa and her family were all very welcoming. I had plenty of privacy, including my own bathroom. There is a river across the street and a canoe which was a lot of fun to use. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay whether it is for a month or just for a weekend vacation.

We felt "at home" the moment we arrived. Lisa and her family made sure we had and knew what we needed throughout our visit but we had lots of privacy. The 3rd floor was all ours. The bed and bedding was comfy; we slept like babies. The bathroom was spacious and charming. We really enjoyed having drinks on the front porch, listening to the birds. This home made our visit to this region perfect!

Lisa and her family were perfect hosts. We became immediately comfortable and like old friends. I can not imagine feeling more at home. Their home is beautiful, clean, easy to find. The bedroom and private bath were perfect. The bed was roomy and seriously comfy. One can come and go as one pleases and yet look forward to friendly discussions at beginning or end of day. A few minutes away is a fab pub/inn with nice beer/wine and great food and outdoor seating. The location is serenely quiet yet convenient to Rt 91 and to Dartmouth in minutes. The porch is to-die-for as day fades or for early coffee. As a writer, I appreciated sitting on the front porch in the evening and overlooking the river form the hill, and having quiet time to jot down my thoughts. I will definitely make this my go-to place to stay in Vermont. A yearly visit.

Lisa and Ken welcomed us graciously into their home for a long weekend. Their home was exactly as described; clean, comfortable, tasteful, and welcoming. The room has a queen-size bed with a private bathroom right next door on the third floor. We had a great time borrowing their canoe and paddling for a few hours each night on the river by their home! There was a delicious breakfast of yogurt, granola and fresh bread and jams waiting for us downstairs each morning. One morning, we enjoyed breakfast out on their front porch swing with their three cats. Overall, a great weekend and great place to stay! Lisa and Ken were very accommodating and helpful in suggesting places to eat, and fun to sit and chat with. We enjoyed our stay very much and would return if we ever head back to VT in the future.

Hello. I'm a mother of three teenagers who's passionate about food, cooking, reading and travel. I run a small business called "Vermont Crepe & Waffle" and write a food blog called "Fork on the Road." When I'm not spending time with my husband and kids or testing a new recipe, I'm most likely to be found out and about exploring the world (especially France). Can't live without: my local libary, a cast iron skillet, farmer's markets, my knitting bag and another adventure planned in the future.
