Yay-New 55” SMART TV in Living Room!
Other TV’s are NOT smart TV’s and none connected to cable/channels

Yay-new hardwood floors in Living Room and hallway!!! Still a work in progress.

Yay- new gas grill- please cover it after use so it doesn’t corrode like the last one.

You’re in Mother Nature’s territory, she doesn’t like loud music and people screaming late at night, puking over the balcony. Neither do the neighbors, who call us or the sheriff. Guests bothering neighbors with excessive noise past 10pm, who ignore our warning, will be asked to leave, no refunds.

Our single family home was built in 1979, just 4 miles from historic downtown Julian in San Diego's Back Country. Nestled in majestic oaks, our house sits just off the main road in a secluded hillside with views to the mountains. City lights can be seen from the downstairs porch. A wrap-around deck includes a roomy balcony deck with tables and chairs which is a great place to watch sunsets through the trees. Two floor to ceiling fireplaces with Heatilators (fans that blow the hot air in) help you keep warm on cold nights. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly cabin. It’s perfect for people who want to chill and not worry if someone puts their feet up on the coffee table. The house is fully prepared for people traveling as a family or a group, and with dogs. The kitchen is stocked with all the cooking essentials except the actual food although there is a good amount of condiments in the fridge and dry food in the pantry . Some spices are stocked in the cabinets. Dog bowls, treats, and other supplies in pantry. There is a dedicated kids' room with age-appropriate toys, a train table, farmers market stand with play food, kid-sized table and chairs, dollhouse, and a TV monitor with Apple TV and DVD player. I’m in the process of replacing the floors, the flooring at the stair landing is uneven bc I have the flooring under the carpet. Just be aware it’s uneven.

UNTIL WE REPLACE THE BALCONY DECK- we need to limit the number of guests on the deck to 10. Please do not lean against the railings.

This place IS truly a beautiful and magical spot where wildlife is attracted to our front door. That said, I do want to point out that THIS IS AN OLDER CABIN IN THE WOODS AND BUILT INTO A HILL AND UNDER A CANOPY OF TREES . While that makes being upstairs akin to being in a giant tree house, it also means that you get what comes with trees and the mountains—leaves on the decks, ants, spiders, birds, squirrels, field mice, raccoons, spider webs, and an interesting variety of other bugs and other wildlife. I personally spray the outside perimeter and every window for bugs regularly. Yes it’s normal for spider webs to form on the window sills hours after they are removed. We are under a gazillion trees. That’s what happens. Leaves, acorns, tassels, etc will litter the deck when wind blows. It’s the country. We don’t control nature. Let me say this again for the people in the back, there will be spider webs outside under the balcony and along the eaves, and maybe the window sills inside. Better there than walking around the house. The spiders eat the bugs. We like spiders. If you are expecting the palatial second home mansions like in Lake Arrowhead, or Big Bear, this isn’t it. While there are many things I have improved and many more I would like to change and improve, I do it as I can afford. If you are super picky then just don't book my place. I would rather you book elsewhere than have to endure more spiteful comments left publicly about my cabin. Ours is a unique TREE HOUSE experience. It is a place where many spiritual, church, yoga, family reunions and retreats happen and where many happy memories are made. Embrace the area vs expecting a “city experience in the mountains” and enjoy the deer, turkey, and variety of birds, and magical sunset views, right from the living room couch.

WE PROVIDE LINENS AND TOWELS AS WELL AS SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER and SHOWER GEL. All other amenities are not guaranteed. WiFi is 50 mega whatever’s
Turn-key cabin stocked with everything down to spices & kitchen pantry items, one that has items for traveling with your furry companions, essentials in the bathroom including stuff you may have forgotten, all the basics for traveling with baby or young kids, a dedicated play room for said kids, hang out by a fire pit with a bench the size of our deck under giant oak trees, a giant bird plank feeder for daily living room bird watching, deer and turkey from the windows, rope and tire swings for the kids, afternoon relaxation watching amazing sunsets from a westward facing balcony, then this IS the place for you. But still read below bc, you know, I had to cover all the whacky things that people have said or done at the place and apparently can’t say enough times that this place ain’t the Bellagio.

BRING- extra TP (that is septic safe), paper towels, Aim and Flame or some lighter for firepit and fire place, Tupperware, foil, ziplock bags, plastic wrap, bottled water if you don’t want to use our Britta, coffee, toothbrush/toothpaste, lotion (it’s really dry up there), food, and bug spray in spring and summer. I have some To-Go type containers that can be used to store and take your food but I never know what is there.

CABIN MANUAL: We have a cabin manual for guests at the cabin in a binder as well as downstairs by the front door.

***************HOUSERULES AND DISCLOSURES**********************

WE DO NOT PROVIDE FIREWOOD and just bc it's wood doesn't mean you can burn it in our fireplaces. No cutting down trees, using our wood we have for building, burning chairs or other furniture, paper towels, TP, or another such thing. NO LIGHTER FLUID IN FIREPLACE. Please buy wood in town Don’s Market in Santa Isabel sells it, bring up your own, or get DURAFLAMES. Fireplaces are on a “you use, you clean” basis meaning the ashes are to be emptied into the black ash bucket which is on each fireplace hearth and disposed of in the proper metal trash can outside- NOT IN OUR WELL.

IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN OR MISPLACED THE CODE that does not mean you can rip and bend my screens I just had replaced and break in through the windows. We caught someone on Ring Cameras and Airbnb still didn't refund for the damage.

THERE IS NO HUNTING OF ANY KIND AND YOU CANNOT FIRE LIVE ROUNDS IN JULIAN which includes killing birds and squirrels with a pellet gun.

NO AXE/KNIFE THROWING AT THE HOUSE SIDING- yeah someone did that too bc I found the knife still stuck in my siding. Do not throw axes at our trees either. We are losing trees to disease and beetles at an alarming rate in Julian and I pay thousands of dollars to treat them. I don't want to speed the process up by having people throw axes into them *****

The place is thoroughly cleaned upon checkout of the previous guest and a leaf blower used on the decks and balcony- AND it still WILL NOT be perfectly clean like a hotel because trees drop leaves, pollen tassels, acorns and bugs and spiders live in those trees. We get high winds and the wind will knock over stuff. Our cleaners don’t clean the BBQ. That’s on a you use, you clean basis like a camp ground. You may need to clean the tables outside when you get there bc it will have gotten dirty again. That’s why we leave “mud towels” for wiping stuff off. This is not us “ignoring cleaning & not caring”- this is having a house in the middle of the woods. Welcome to country living. There is also NOT a weekly gardener to mow and blow like in the city, are you seriously kidding me to those who have complained? I have close to an acre of land. There is a semi-annual arborist and tree trimming crew to chop and weed-whack so our house doesn’t catch on fire. Again- do NOT expect your city life but up here in the country. It’s the back woods.

NO ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING or binging something that draws large amounts of power. It is $50 a day or more and this is too rural a location for electric cars. We will have to charge you.

WATER- the water out of the tap is filtered well- water. It is tested weekly and is drinkable. On top of that I have large filters installed which further filters the water throughout the entire house. If you still want filtered water there is a Brita pitcher there that takes filter #35557. Please just use our water vs bringing plastic.

DO NOT TRESPASS- walking from my gate to the tire swing tree is fine because that is my property and county land. The little road beyond the tire swing is someone’s back yard. The fenced property in front of me is obviously someone’s land and the little dirt road along it is their access. I put a NO OUTLET sign there. Stay away please. You walk past their bedroom windows and you don’t need to see them in their chonies

WARNING- acorns drop in the Fall. We have no control over acorns falling onto cars.
If there is SNOW you will need chains or a 4WD to get in and out of our house. We do not provide towing or plowing so please plan accordingly.

***RURAL AREA*** amenities cannot be guaranteed as we are limited by the area for service calls especially during a global pandemic.

This house sits into a hill so it is relatively private and the effect is like being in a tree-house. The views from the balcony face the city.

Please stay on my property and don’t venture off the roads/trails. You will actually be on someone’s property.

The property directly in front of mine (from the balcony facing west) and past the tire swing, is not mine. The owners have put up a fence and no trespassing sign. Please do not cross into her property. You are free to walk to my tire swing outside of our gates and to the left. The area in front of the fence is also ok. The road along her fence is NOT OK. An excellent walk is to go out of our back kitchen door, up the path past the fake well, thru our small gate at the top to the main road, turn right and head up the incline, then right at Fletcher. You will circle around to a clearing point and on some days can see to the ocean. You can also reach this from the kitchen back door, up the steps, to the little gate there at the street.

I’m a mother of 2 boys ages 22 and 19. I work as a Script Supervisor in the film/tv industry as well as an insurance broker. I have owned this house since 2003. It was built in 1979 and we have done many upgrades to it but lots is still original. We love the space! The nature around it is magical and the comfortable furnishings are no-nonsense for those traveling with kids and pets.
