First a few reviews, and next, the rules.

"... I took my oldest son who is 15 with me for some father/son bonding as he begins to enter manhood. I can say without question that this was the greatest experience of my fatherhood." -- Blake

"... One of the most special places I’ve ever stayed at - this is the kind of remote spot you can only dream of having access to without living in the backcountry yourself." -- Niklas

"... This is one of the most unique and storied places I have ever stayed at. Tim is a great host whose top priority is to make sure you are comfortable and taken care of at his home." -- Michael

"... Tim is great. He’s part of the experience. Wish we got to spend more time with him. It’s really something to get completely away. It was a really cool, unique experience." -- Steven

"... There is truly nothing like this place anywhere. Amazing seclusion; acres and acres of hiking trials right outside your front door, incredible views with not a neighbor in sight." -- Erik

Now, a few rules;

- I live in a caretaker suite on site.
- We are an off grid cabin; be mindful of your consumption.
- 4 humans max per my county permit
- Dogs & horses allowed; $25/dog/day and $50/horse/day (I feed and water the horses, and clean the corrals daily). 2 dogs max and they are not allowed on furniture and cannot be left unattended uncrated.
- From June 1 to Oct 1 you should have easy access but you MUST have 4WD. Vehicles like AWD Subarau Outbacks may not have enough clearance. ASK PRIOR TO BOOKING because road conditions constantly change. No checkin allowed after 10pm!
- Due to unpredictable weather the other months, contact me directly before instant booking.
- In the dead of winter, I provide one complimentary ATV or snow cat shuttle to the property (arrival and checkout) but charge $300 for each additional run.
- During the shoulder season (April 15 to June 1 and Oct 1 to Nov 15) you may be able to access with your own car, or you may need to pay for the shuttle.
- Please contact me, please contact me, please contact me!

OK, onward...

This is unlike anything else you will find on AirBnB – a secluded and off-grid mountain cabin miles from the nearest neighbor and completely surrounded by national forest and so, so close to Rocky Mountain National Park. I'm the owner and caretaker of this cabin, so while I live in a caretaker suite, the 2200-square-foot main lodge is a private space that's completely yours. You won't notice I'm here because, well, those views are what you'll be looking at.

For 33 years I ran an outfitting business from the cabin, but am now slowing down. During those decades I escorted hunters and horse riders along hundreds of miles of trails out my backyard that virtually nobody knows about. Some disappear into the National Forest and others wind their way into Rocky Mountain National Park. I know the terrain around this property better than anyone, so I can point you toward the most gorgeous aspen groves, meadows, streams -- heck, even a tiny private cold swimming hole 15 minutes from the house if you like dipping in snow runoff.

You will have uninterrupted access to a maintained public trail system that's essentially yours. While the crowds get stuck in Rocky Mountain National Park traffic, you can come to my lodge and be mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, motorcycling and hiking without seeing a single human soul (though the elk, deer, turkeys, bobcat, mountain lions, moose and bear are abundant!)

Note that access is difficult, which adds to the charm and adventure of this off-grid, backcountry stay. In the summer you will need a 4WD vehicle to get here. In the winter months, I'll pick you up in a snow cat and give you a private ride to the property. And in every season, you'll enjoy miles of gorgeous landscapes with incredible views of the Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park.

While Rocky Mountain National Park deservedly gets 5 million tourists a year, the land around my property gets only a few hundred -- the lucky ones who book a stay with me. But amazingly, the terrain and mountains are just the same. In fact, you can stare off the deck directly onto the summit of Twin Sisters, which is part of Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you come here, you can

- Bring your own horse and keep them in my corral. I will feed, water and clean up after them daily, and give you maps from my house through historical ruins of homesteads dating back to 1889

- Bring your mountain bikes and dirt bikes and embark on rides of up to 100 miles from my doorstep

- Bring XC skis and enjoy the groomed roads that I pack down with my snow cat

- Enjoy 10 miles of ATV terrain and hundreds of miles of motorcycle riding

- Hike private trails that wind their way through meadows and forests and onto summits of peaks within the National Park

- Enjoy a 225-yard rifle range and a 50-yard pistol range if you bring your own firearms.

Again, all from the front door.

Afterward, during the summer you'll probably sit on the deck or in front of a fire pit as the sun sets and enjoy the views. During the winter, you'll likely enjoy a wood fire in the living room, cook an epic meal, and hunker down as the snow falls.

I'm a music aficionado, so the home's stereo system is bluetooth-friendly and concert worthy!

While this is a completely off the grid and green property, this lodge has all the modern conveniences: solar power, satellite TV, internet and radio and full coverage cell phone service. Water is fed from mountain springs at the headwaters of Fish Creek.

Live acoustic fire side private concerts available on request.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Bedroom 1 - Queen bed

Bedroom 2 - Queen bed and 2 twin beds in a bunk bed setup.

Kitchen - Full kitchen fully stocked with cookware, dinnerware, and common spices and condiments and a 6 place custom log dining room table.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire property except the caretaker suite I live in.

You have full, private access to the main rental space, including a deck, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, the 700-s/f deck with gas grill, and a gorgeous great room with attached kitchen and dining area.

Other things to note
This is *REMOTE.* Do not expect anything else.

The lodge is six miles from town -- the first four miles are on maintained dirt roads, while the last two are on a seasonal Forest Service road. You will need high clearance 4WD when the road is open during the summer months. During the winter months, you will park at the bottom of the Forest Service road and I will ferry you in with a snow cat.

My work: Estes Park Outfitters
I spend too much time: Can you spend too much time laughing?
A life well lived is measured in experiences, not things. I am a lifelong horseman and outdoor guide and I've been exploring the beautiful land around my home for decades. I run a chainsaw like a true mountain man and plow my road even when it's buried in 8 feet of snow. That said, I'm also a lover of the finer things in life. They don't call me the Rosé Cowboy for nothing! I ran my guiding and outfitting business, Estes Park Outfitters, out of my off grid cabin for decades. I've phased that out as I start to slow down a little, but I still want to give people a taste of what I have enjoyed for most of my adult life in the back woods of the Rocky Mountains. I'm now focusing on backcountry snowcat tours and being an AirBnB host!
