Great check-in experience

Recent guests loved the smooth start to this stay.
Rent the keeper's apartment at the Swan's Island Lighthouse. The apartment is located on the upper level of the keeper's house and is well-appointed, tidy, and bright. Sleeps 2. Minimum stay 7 nights Sunday to Saturday. The grounds of the light station are Town property, and open to the public so while the keeper's apartment is private, the downstairs space and grounds will have visitors. You will be responsible for keeping the outside doors of the building locked when not open to the public.

The space
Well-appointed, tidy, and bright. The keeper's house has been lovingly restored and is a historic landmark. The keeper's apartment is located on the second floor and has a bedroom, living room, galley kitchen, and bathroom. It has a private, lockable entrance. There is also a wonderful porch with rocking chairs and amazing views of the ocean, burnt coat harbor, and sunsets.
The porch, grounds, and downstairs of the keeper's house is open to the public. The downstairs is open 5 days a week for ~ four hours per day and contains a gift shop and art displays. It is also occasionally used for special events. You will be responsible for locking the outer doors of the building when not open to the public.

Guest access
You will have access to all areas of the keeper's house and lighthouse grounds. The keeper's apartment is your private oasis.

Other things to note
Swans Island is a small community. Everyone waves at each other when they drive by. It is also a dry island. While alcohol is prohibited on the grounds of the lighthouse, this does not apply to the apartment. The water is safe to use, but we recommend bringing bottled water to drink. It is also recommended you bring groceries for your stay. TIMS (The Island Market & Supply) is well stocked to supplement anything you may need (except alcohol).

Neighborhood highlights

Swan’s Island is six miles out to sea, with a year-round community spread among three small villages. Two working harbors are home to a large fleet of lobster boats. The island boasts uncrowded beaches and spruce-covered hills, seascapes by day, and star-filled nights. Accessible by ferry from Bass Harbor. Day trip to Acadia National Park or Bar Harbor. Bring your vehicle as there is not any public transportation. It is a wonderful place to hike, bike, and just relax. Please note that the island is "dry" so, if desired, bring your own alcohol. There is a small market but no restaurants or bars. We recommend you bring provisions for meals as well. The market is well stocked but you may want to supplement from the mainland. They also offer pizza nights on Wednesday and Friday nights. By renting the Keeper's Apartment, the proceeds from your stay help The Lighthouse Committee maintain this historic landmark!
