We rent a few rooms in our place in Mindo, Ecuador. We have a restaurant, chocolate factory on site. We include a great breakfast and a chocolate making tour with your reservation. Mindo is a great place to visit and relax in the lush cloudforest.
El Quetzal is a bed and breakfast in Mindo, Ecuador. Just downstairs you can see the entire artisan process of chocolate making. Up in your room you get a view overlooking the tiny town of Mindo, known for world-class birding, butterflies, orchids, waterfalls, and chocolate! Your room includes the best breakfast in Mindo and a chocolate tour. We have filtered water in every room. Full restaurant on site. Organic gardens supply food for restaurant.
I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. It's located two blocks from the center of town at end of the road. It's quiet and has a great view. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. The room is a great deal, especially considering you get both breakfast and the chocolate tour included! The restaurant closes at 8p, so it's quiet in the evenings, and even when it's open, the room is not noisy and does not smell like food. The shower is hot and the room is well designed with plenty of places to unpack. Would definitely stay here again!!
Delightful place to stay. Great location, staff, food and room. Mindo is one of my favorite places in Ecuador. I would definitely stay here again.
We had a little SNAFU getting our room, but other than the initial bump, it was a wonderful visit. As others had commented, the breakfast was great, as was the tour of the chocolate factory. It's a tossup between the fantastic chocolate cookies and the amazing chocolatey gooey brownies, but either way you must have it with the coffee, which is roasted on the premises. The view from the new dining room of the restaurant below was postcard perfect. While waiting for our breakfast to arrive, we sipped coffee and watched several hummingbirds sample the flowers adjacent to the deck. They were close enough that you were tempted to reach out and touch them. While we didn't meet Barbara, who was in the US at the time of our visit, we did spend a lot of time with Frank, the manager. Let me tell you, Frank elevated this stay from ordinary to extraordinary. He leads the tours through the chocolate factory and makes sure each person is engaged during the tour. His recent hip surgery didn't slow him down one bit, as he climbed the hill with is crutches with the agility of a billy goat. He also can provide excellent suggestions for other things to do and see while in Mindo.
During our stay I managed to injure myself during a hike, this is when the level of care went from customer service to why we love Ecuador. I badly sprained my ankle, Frank arranged for someone to check on the severity of the injury. The staff went into overdrive, providing a bag of ice and dinner in our room! They provided directions to the closest pharmacy again going above and beyond. Frank even gave me his crutches to use the next day so I wouldn't be stuck in bed. How awesome is that? I would recommend staying at El Quetzal (Did I mention the chocolate factory?!?) Tell Frank we sent you!
I am so happy that your experience was positive overall despite your ankle and our scheduling problem. I assure you that we have spent some time fine tuning our systems since your visit. I am still working on your refund. Thanks so much for your feedback and I will pass it along to Frank.
