About This Listing
Private bedroom in two bedroom apartment in the nation's capitol available for a SHARED rental. Truly a room with a view: the second floor deck and sun-filled eating area are surrounded by mature trees making this tranquil space feel like a treehouse.
Set in the Maryland suburban area of Takoma Park, you'll find easy access to downtown with the convenience of off-street parking. Hop on the #12 bus directly across the street with service in less than ten minutes to the Takoma Park metro station (red line.) From there, it's about 10 minutes to Union Station and under 20 to Metro Center, with easy access to all the tourist attractions on the National Mall. Plus -- there's off-street parking if you'd rather drive into the city or are passing through on a road trip and want to avoid parking tickets.
Takoma Park ((website hidden)) -- formerly called "Azalea City" -- is a wonderful commuter community located just outside DC. It's in close proximity to Washington Adventist University, the University of Maryland, and other major landmarks. There are lovely shops and eateries close by, where you'll find everything to please your palate, from Capital City Cheesecake to Roscoe's Neapolitan Pizzeria. On Sundays, stroll through the farmer's market, grab a bite at Soupergirl and then tool around the main street for great little shops, including Amano (great shoes and clothes!)
You'll have your own private room, complete with an adjustable Crate & Barrel twin bed that inclines to provide a comfortable reading space. A convenient workspace, plenty of storage and Wi-Fi make this zen room so comfortable you won't want to leave. Cook in the well-equipped cook's kitchen, and enjoy dinner outside on the balcony or under the skylight in the dining area. Retire to the couch in the large living room for a movie from my extensive collection.
You'll share the apartment with myself and one adorable Pomeranian named Sake. She's incredibly friendly and will become a loyal friend for a treat and a scratch behind the ears. If you prefer to stay without pets, this can also be arranged.
I can accommodate one in the private bedroom, or two using an air mattress. There is additional sleeping accommodations in the living room, which can be closed off to make it more private. The apartment is also available as a private rental. Coffee, tea and light snacks are available to get you started, and there is a lovely food co-op nearby for provisions.
Approximately a half hour (by car) from either Reagan or BWI Airports, and an hour from Dulles. Pick up/drop off can be arranged for an additional charge, based on schedule.
There is a $100 security deposit which is completely refundable provided keys are returned and there is no damage. This is a shared housing situation, and there is only one bathroom. But rest assured -- as you will see from my feedback -- this has worked very well, even for longer stays and multiple guests. Most come as strangers... and leave as friends.
Experience DC like a local, in a safe area without all the hustle and bustle. Ideal for long-term stays.
Thanks for looking. We look forward to your stay!
As this is a shared rental situation, I ask that guests clean up after themselves. To me, that means taking care of your own dishes and wiping down the bathroom sink after using -- but not that I expect you make your bed every day! Please be comfortable and treat my home like your own. This is a quiet, small building. Your cooperation in maintaining that for my neighbors is most appreciated.
There is absolutely NO smoking in the unit. You may cook as much as you like, and there is storage area for your food available. Basic cooking necessities such as oil and spices are available. There is a food co-op nearby for provisioning.
Happy people with a good disposition will be welcomed as strangers, but will leave as friends.
Amy and Adam were fantastic, friendly, and generous hosts who were helpful with any requests and questions about the area. The room and home were clean, peaceful, and comfortable. The listing was accurately described. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone who visits the DC area!
Amy's place was awesome! It was in a nice and safe neighborhood and close to everything you would need. What I liked most about it was that her place had character and made you feel like you were home. Amy was a great hostess. Unfortunately, she was out of town so I didn't get to meet her in person, but she had thought of everything and communication was great. I will definitely stay there again.

About the Host, Amy & Adam
Fun and active Washingtonians with a great social network, a keen understanding of the city and a knack for roof top gardening. Looking forward to meeting new people from points near and far -- people who come as guests and leave as friends.
