Adjacent to Blue Ridge Mountain Yurt accessed by following a well lit path through the small woodland are the shared seasonal salt water swimming pool and year-round hot tub. The area is surrounded by a high tensile fence with latching and chained gates. In the interest of safety we ask that the gates remained closed and latched at all times. There is no lifeguard on duty so swimming and tubing is at your own risk. Please no diving or glass in the enclosure.
Farm Tours are available upon request. Farm animals can be unpredictable. The barn and animals are only to be visited in the company of a member of the Cair Paravel Farm Family.
Interaction with Guests
We love to greet our "Yurters" when they arrive and show them around the yurt as well as provide suggestions for local hikes, activities, and dining.
The Cair Paravel Farmhouse is just a short walk down the mountain though since we are an operating farm we are frequently out and about. Yurters can call or text and we will respond as soon as we are able.
There are many area attractions and activities- hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, visiting Monticello or Montpelier, following the Monticello Wine Trail or the Brew Ridge Trail, and checking out the work of Virginia Artisans in the local shop: Noon Whistle Pottery. We are close to both Charlottesville and Harrisonburg. For other activities and attractions check out our guidebook.
If you are considering hiking take a look at Hiking Upward. The site has great maps and descriptions of the trails as wells as a great rating system.
The nearest airport is the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. Rental cars are available at the airport. To reach the farm is an easy half hour drive. A rural transportation service, the Greene County Transit, operates Monday through Saturday.

We had a wonderful time at the Cair Paravel yurt - the many, many glowing reviews of the property speak the truth! Whitt and Martha are wonderful, experienced hosts, and made us feel very welcome. The yurt itself is just delightful and unique, plenty of room for a family of four, with lots of thoughtful creature comforts. The property is beautiful, with rolling hills, and well maintained walking/hiking trails. We loved meeting the animals and seeing the farm. Our breakfasts were delicious. We'd come back in a heartbeat. We had the chance to tour both the Dawn Treader Airstream and the newly renovated 2BR guest house, and both look wonderful (the house is fantastic). Thank you for a terrific getaway!
This was the perfect trip. The yurt is beautiful and impeccably appointed, and Whitt and Martha made us feel well cared for. The breakfast and dinner baskets were unbelievably delicious, the yurt was cozy, the hiking gorgeous, and the farm tour miraculous. My friends and I can't wait to book another trip back.
We arrived at the beautiful yurt and were promptly greeted and given a tour by Whitt. The yurt is amazing, clean, and well stocked. The surroundings are almost impossibly beautiful. Breakfast was delivered each morning and was different and delicious each day. We will be back!
My boyfriend and I had a fun and relaxing long weekend at the yurt. The yurt itself is really cool, the farm and surrounding areas are beautiful, and Whitt was very nice and welcoming. We really enjoyed the tour he gave us of the farm. And our breakfasts were delicious!
The one disappointing part of this experience was that the kitchen was not as well-stocked as we thought it would be based on the description and what previous reviews have said. We received a whole chicken in our farmer's market basket, and the recipe that went along with it called for a roasting pan and a meat thermometer, neither of which the yurt had. We would recommend that guests who want to do a lot of cooking and/or order the farmer's market basket check with the hosts prior to their stay to make sure the kitchen will have everything they need. The quality of the food we got from the farm was fantastic, but it was hard to make some of it.
That small issue aside, the yurt is wonderful! Whitt is a great host, and we had a lot of fun both relaxing at the farm and hiking in Shenandoah National Park during our stay. We would recommend the yurt to anyone looking to get out into nature.
Cair Paravel was such a lovely quiet place to stay. The Yurt was beautiful, the photos don't do it justice. Whitt and Martha were very hospitable and the food was divine. This was everything we had hoped and more!
Thank you so much Whitt and Martha for opening up your beautiful home to allow others to appreciate its beauty and in such a unique way.
Loved the farm and all the animals. Whitt was very welcoming and the tour he gave us was definitely a highlight. If you are at all interested in small farming, this is a great opportunity to go somewhere beautiful and relaxing and see what all goes into producing locally grown food. They are doing really important work and it's lovely to meet people like Whitt and his wife who are so open to sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.
We had a lovely experience at Cair Paravel's Blue Ridge Mountain Yurt. Everything we needed to know was in the binder (and email prior to arrival) and the accommodations were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and our stay was delightful, albeit too short. Can't wait to go back in the Summer!

I am a retired executive Chef who has worked in all types of hospitality environments for 35 years. Managing a small country Inn and restaurant for 12 of those years has given me ample experience to create and manage our unique Yurt B&B as well as our other lodgings. My family and I are in process of creating a self supporting and sustainable farm homestead and lodgings and we offer welcome to one and all. In addition to our enterprises we are grateful stewards of 60 acres of spectacular mountain land, most of which is as undisturbed as possible with an easily accessible nature trail winding throughout the property. As a working farm we also have a multitude of gentle critters and an abundance of home grown foods.
Having grown up in Hawaii I know well about relaxing and enjoying life and all it has to offer, and believe we have created a place where everyone can share in the same.
