Adjacent to Blue Ridge Mountain Yurt accessed by following a well lit path through the small woodland are the shared seasonal salt water swimming pool and year-round hot tub. The area is surrounded by a high tensile fence with latching and chained gates. In the interest of safety we ask that the gates remained closed and latched at all times. There is no lifeguard on duty so swimming and tubing is at your own risk. Please no diving or glass in the enclosure.
Farm Tours are available upon request. Farm animals can be unpredictable. The barn and animals are only to be visited in the company of a member of the Cair Paravel Farm Family.
Interaction with Guests
We love to greet our "Yurters" when they arrive and show them around the yurt as well as provide suggestions for local hikes, activities, and dining.
The Cair Paravel Farmhouse is just a short walk down the mountain though since we are an operating farm we are frequently out and about. Yurters can call or text and we will respond as soon as we are able.
There are many area attractions and activities- hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, visiting Monticello or Montpelier, following the Monticello Wine Trail or the Brew Ridge Trail, and checking out the work of Virginia Artisans in the local shop: Noon Whistle Pottery. We are close to both Charlottesville and Harrisonburg. For other activities and attractions check out our guidebook.
If you are considering hiking take a look at Hiking Upward. The site has great maps and descriptions of the trails as wells as a great rating system.
The nearest airport is the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. Rental cars are available at the airport. To reach the farm is an easy half hour drive. A rural transportation service, the Greene County Transit, operates Monday through Saturday.

The setting was absolutely breathtaking and the quietness on top of the mountain was truly refreshing. We enjoyed our stay immensely. The breakfast was delicious and raised by the hosts, which made it even better.
Thanks Whitt and Martha for all your hospitality! We had an incredible visit. Our trip was in celebration of my birthday. When I walked into the yurt, I was greeted with tons of balloons falling from the ceiling. Wow! My stay at your yurt was a birthday to remember.
We stayed in the yurt 2/20-2/22/15 and had a great time! The yurt itself is funky, comfortable and fun. The mountain views are beautiful. Despite it being freezing cold outside with a foot of snow, the yurt was warm and cozy. Whitt and Martha were the best of hosts, giving us privacy all weekend except for when we needed their help...then they were very responsive, helpful and generous. My car got stuck in a ditch with the snow, and Whitt's team shoveled me out so the tow truck could (email hidden)d they did this without me even asking. The breakfast each morning was delicious, they know how to cook! I would highly recommend getting a dinner basket because the quality and quantity was amazing. I was so pleased with our weekend excursion, I will recommend this to all of my friends and would love to return.
Well, another 5 star review for Cair Paravel's Yurt! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Whitt and Martha were very responsive and helpful and made sure our arrival went smoothly despite arriving a few hours after a blizzard. The yurt managed to be just as magnificent as it looked in the pictures and the breakfast was delicious. If you have the time, I would recommend the tour of the farmstead!
Our stay in Whitt's yurt was awesome! The yurt itself was large, well-lit and very welcoming, with a fantastic kitchen, dining area, and hang out space. We also enjoyed the nearby hot tub and the dinner baskets that we ordered. Whitt was even kind enough to come pull our car out of the snow with his truck when we got lost down a hill. I'm really excited to come back to this place when it isn't the coldest week of the year so that I can explore the farm and surrounding area.
We had a lovely time at the Yurt over Presidents Day weekend. We stayed warm and cozy inside, despite it being the coldest night of the year (-7 degrees!!). We absolutely loved the view and solitude and learning about Whitt and Martha's farm.
Our weekend was more than just perfect. The Blue Ridge Mountain Yurt was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The weather was mostly so-so, but it didn't matter. Our time in the yurt was enjoyable and stress free. A great place to relax, soak in the countryside, and cozy up with a good book or just veg watching a movie…. with no To Do list in site! It was truly a wonderful “get away from it all” place to be. When we weren't “busy” relaxing, we enjoyed a parade of family and friends that came up to join us in a birthday celebration at the yurt. Everyone loved it!
Whitt and Martha were very thoughtful, helpful, conscientious hosts and they made our weekend completely carefree. The breakfast that was delivered to our door each morning was scrumptious! This was a much needed, delightful respite for my husband and me. We will look forward to coming back up to Pocosan Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountain Yurt.

I am a retired executive Chef who has worked in all types of hospitality environments for 35 years. Managing a small country Inn and restaurant for 12 of those years has given me ample experience to create and manage our unique Yurt B&B as well as our other lodgings. My family and I are in process of creating a self supporting and sustainable farm homestead and lodgings and we offer welcome to one and all. In addition to our enterprises we are grateful stewards of 60 acres of spectacular mountain land, most of which is as undisturbed as possible with an easily accessible nature trail winding throughout the property. As a working farm we also have a multitude of gentle critters and an abundance of home grown foods.
Having grown up in Hawaii I know well about relaxing and enjoying life and all it has to offer, and believe we have created a place where everyone can share in the same.
