Time for recess! Our totally renovated and expanded schoolhouse is a perfect retreat with all the comforts of home. It has high ceilings, lots of natural light, and plenty of spaces to gather or have some quiet time. Fully stocked kitchen w/DW. 3 bdrms (3 beds, 2 queen/1 full), 2.5 baths. W/D. Close to Ludlow, Okemo/Jackson Gore, Stratton, Killington, Castle Hill Spa and plenty of lakes and ponds.

The space
The schoolhouse sits at the edge of a field and has a lovely view. It's close to everything, but away from it all.

The house was totally renovated and expanded far beyond the original structure. It has high ceilings, lots of natural light, and plenty of spaces to gather or have some quiet time. There's also Wifi, if you need to do a little work.

The kitchen is a perfect place to cook and gather. It has an island with stools and a large table with six chairs. It's fully stocked with everything you need to create and serve a wonderful meal. The kitchen also has a custom mural of a schoolhouse by Vermont artist Kimberly Ray. (If you look around, you'll see many of my paintings on the walls, too.)

The living room has a 50" Smart TV with cable and DVD player, a comfortable seating area and a pellet stove. The stove provides the flame and toasty heat of a fireplace without all the work.

There are two en suite bedrooms with televisions. The loft in the addition is a spacious and cozy retreat, decorated with a lodge theme. It shares a bath in the main house. (Please note, the loft does not have a door, but does have a door below that separates it from the rest of the house.)

We're on the corner of a main road and a country dirt road, which is great for walks or runs.

Down the hill you'll find Proctorsville. A small village that has summer concerts on the green on Wednesday nights, a bakery for morning coffee or lunch, a restaurant called Murdoch's for dinner and Singleton's General Store. Singleton's is a great place to pick up something to throw on the grill or sandwiches. There's also Outer Limits brewery right on the green!

We're close to the quintessential town of Weston, home of the Weston Playhouse and The Vermont Country Store. We also love to take a ride to Woodstock where there's a covered bridge and cute shops. Don't forget to stop at Harpoon Brewery. It's located in the Artisan's Marketplace in Windsor, where you'll also find a Simon Pearce Glass Outlet, a cheese factory, Silo Distillers and other attractions.

Summer:
The front porch has two rocking chairs. It's the perfect place for a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon glass of wine in the warmer months. The back deck has a grill, table/chairs for four and a chaise lounge. Sit there a while and you'll see Bluebirds, Hummingbirds and Baltimore Orioles. There's also a chiminea for those cool summer nights to sit under a sky full of stars.

Winter:
Okemo and Jackson Gore are 5-7 miles from the house. Stratton, Bromley, Killington and Magic are also close by. We have ski racks to store your skis and a boot heater to warm up or dry out your boots. The driveway is flat and plowed right up to the garage door. The field behind the house is perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There's also a great sledding hill.

The schoolhouse is a special and comfortable year round retreat. We love it and we think you will, too.

HISTORY
The school was one of twelve schoolhouses in Cavendish/Proctorsville. The schoolhouses were built to ensure that no child would have to walk longer than one mile. The original school was our kitchen and the smaller bedroom. The school closed in 1947, but the structure was preserved and lives on.

Guest access
During the winter months snow falls from the roof blocking the porch stairs, therefore we ask guests to access the house through the garage with the key code provided. There is a doorbell next to the keypad for guest convenience.

Other things to note
House trained dogs are permitted for a $100 fee. We ask that you crate the dog when you are away. Limit 2 dogs.

Neighborhood highlights

We are 1.5 miles from the town of Proctorsville. There you'll find Singleton's General Store. You'll enjoy their wide variety of food and merchandise. They're know for their smokehouse and meat department, but you can pick up everything you need to make a memorable meal or sandwiches for the road. (You can also pick up hunting and fishing gear.) You'll also find Murdoch's Restaurant for dinner and Outer Limits Brewery

Winter/Spring: We are 10 minutes to Okemo and 30-40 minutes to Killington and Stratton. There is a large field behind the house that is perfect for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and it has a great sledding hill. After an active day, make an appointment for a treatment at the Spa at Castle Hill and you enjoy all the amenities for the day. They have a year round outdoor heated pool/hot tub, an exercise room, sauna and yoga classes.

Summer/Fall: If you're looking for water, Lake Rescue and Echo Lake are a short drive away. Buttermilk Falls is a great place to go dip your feet and take a swim as well. For entertainment, enjoy Friday night concerts at Jackson Gore or a play at The Weston Playhouse. If you're creative, take a class at the nearby Fletcher Farm School of Arts and Crafts. Like to bike? There is a rental shop in Ludlow, and Okemo opened the Evolution Bike Center this summer. They will have mountain bike rentals, lift service and trails.

There's plenty of hiking as well. You can hike the front side of Okemo by taking the access road to Mountain Road. You can drive most of the way up, making it a manageable hike to the summit. If you want a longer, more challenging hike, you can access the trail up the back side on Healdsville Road in Mount Holly.

We're close enough to everything for convenience, yet far enough away for tranquility. As one guest said, "It was in the Goldilocks zone for attractions (not too close and not too far; just right)".
