The space

Senderos de Paz – Paths of Peace, is a 7.5 acre oasis, 55 yards above sea level and just 150 yards from the beautiful beach of Playa Manzanillo and a nice walk or quick drive to the breathtaking beach of Playa Hermosa.

Located just 10 - 15 minutes north of Santa Teresa, you'll find all the peace and tranquility you need, but close enough to jump in a car or 4-wheeler and have access to anything and everything one could want.

Bungalows Guayacan are set around a huge, endangered hardwood tree named the Guayacan. The Guayacan sits around the pool towards the ocean side of the property.

There are three bungalows, two fitted with queen beds and the third with bunk beds. Each has a full kitchen, small refrigerator, gas stove, coffee maker and all the kitchenware you'll need.

The bungalows are built in a simple one room studio style with the kitchen and bedroom on opposite sides of the floor plan and a separate bathroom area with the patios placed for pool, monkey, bird, and ocean viewing. The bungalows were completed in June 2012 with laurel wood ceilings and paneling and the patios, door and window frames all accented in teak.

All bungalows and villas come completely furnished, fully equipped, and are surrounded by lush gardens, gravel walkways, private parking, pressurized hot/cold water, SKY/cable TV, wireless internet, cleaning service, gardener and laundry facilities and/or service needed.

I purchased the land in 2001 and began gardening, planting and reforesting in 2004. The property has transformed from vines and brush for cows into walking trails and gardens with over 30 different type of native trees within half an acre (2000 meters) of the bungalows.

Take time to walk along the trails of our 7 acre property...look for coatis, anteaters, jaguarundis, white face and howler monkeys, various bird species, and iguanas...or find one of our sitting areas and just watch and listen to the ocean.

We are here to help with any questions or needs, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay with us...

Also, in Manzanillo there are 2 mini-supermarkets, 2 typical restaurants, a fantastic seafood restaurant and an excellent pizzeria.

If you are looking for a comfortable and peaceful location, within walking distance of a deserted beach and lots of wildlife on your doorstep every day, then staying at Trey's place is the perfect choice. The place is not really walkable from the nearest busy street of Santa Teresa (though we managed it - but just once!), and the walk along the beaches of manzanillo, and onto playa hermosa will give you more food and drink options if you don't fancy cooking at the adequately stocked apartment every day. Having a car will mean that you will see almost all of the beauty that the area has to offer, but we managed without transport for a week because we were after a more secluded retreat for our stay, and didn't regret it one bit. Finally, Trey is an awesome host. If you don't get to experience his laid back, but ever helpful attitude at least once in your life, then you will have missed out! Book it now, you won't regret it!

Words cannot begin to describe or do justice of how amazing my experience at Senderos de Paz was. Yes, the photos showcased are awesome, but when I first got to Senderos de Paz, I was thinking to myself, "Is this real life?". It was my first time to Costa Rica or any jungle for that matter so I guess you could say I was easily blown away. But after exploring the surrounding beach towns and what not, I still say Trey has a very unique location and amazing property with SDP. The property is filled with lush jungle vegetation, multiple swimming pools, all kinds of wild life, and a yoga deck with an ocean view. Another thing I like about this AirBnb is that Trey and others that run the property are very friendly and accommodating. For example, if you want to rent some quads, Trey knows the right people and will get them delivered to you so you don't have to make the trek to go get them. And if you're up for adventure, there is no shortage of activities to do around the area whether it be surfing, paddle boarding, horseback riding, sunset drinks, hiking to waterfalls, quad/motorcycle riding, deep sea fishing, canopy zip lining, and massages on the yoga deck. And if you're into the night life, Santa Teresa, the neighboring beach town has plenty of that. Compared to all the other AirBnbs in Santa Teresa, Hermosa, or Manzanillo, I would say you get the best bang for you buck with Senderos de Paz. I highly recommend it, and I know I’ll be returning one day in the near future. Pura vida!

We had a great time at Trey's, his place is off the touristy area and you need a 4x4 to get there but it is worth it. We cabins are simple but fill all needs (hot water, wifi, AC...) and are located in a wildlife friendly environment that Trey created from Scratch where monkeys and birds have found their home. Trey is accessible, friendly and gives great advice on activities and restaurants in the area. We recommend to ask for a message on the patio at sunset (view on the sea) that Trey can organize for you. Finally the beach is not far but recommend to use the car to get there in a few minutes, especially Hermosa which is great for surfing. Overall great place, great time, great people. Thank you :)

Trey's place is amazing! The apartment is just as described. Small but comfortable, well kept, clean. It is well equiped, with all you need for a great stay. The property itself is great, with lots of vegetation, trails, swimming pool and even a yoga deck. Very quiet and relaxing. Trey is a very attentive host, quick to respond to any question, providing tips on the places to go, see and things to do. I loved Manzanillo, one of the few beaches in Costa Rica not yet invaded by the big resort chains. You can wal along the beach for hours with only a few people here and there. Yet, it's close to Playa Carmen and Santa Teresa if you want to get a taste for a busier town and want to try the different bars and restaurants there. One thing, though, I would highly recommend a full-size SUV/AWD vehicle. The roads are challenging otherwise. All in all, perfect and I can't wait to go back.

We stayed at Trey's beautiful Senderos de Paz for a week, in cabina #1 and liked it so much I am now writing this from cabina #3. Senderos de Paz is a sprawling jungle oasis in the Santiago section Manzanillo, a 20 minute hilly drive from Santa Teresa and about a 10 minute drive to Playa Hermosa. We do not have a car, and hiked the gorgeous, flat Coastal Path to Hermosa in about 25 minutes and the walk to Santa Teresa took about an hour to walk on the main road. A taxi to ST will cost $16 one way ( be sure to make an appointment to ensure one when you need it- Trey helped us secure Alex, an excellent driver) or you can often hitch a ride with other friendly guests! Down the dirt hill from Senderos we would walk about 15 minutes to Atedecar Dorado restaurant for ocean front sunset beers, and to the mini market for all our basic food needs (we prepared and ate all of our simple meals at the cabina) The property is just spectacular, so well created to maximize the tranquility and beauty of the jungle. A brand new yoga shala overlooks the ocean and sunset, and from cabina #3 we can hear the waves day and night. The cabina spaces are incredibly well designed. Cabina #1 is a large room next to the pool (a border of huge bird of paradise provides privacy) with lots of windows, a queen size bed, nice sized private bath and shower, stocked kitchen with small fridge, 2 range self starting gas burner, and coffee maker. A/C, large screen cable TV, alarm system, in room safe, and wifi round out the creature comforts. Cabina #3 is smaller but equally well designed with the same features, except a bunk bed instead of a queen. We did fine on the bottom bunk together but probably won't do it for for than a night or two since we are both quite tall and it's more tailored for one :) Also, the bathroom in cabina #3 doesn't have a door, but has a privacy curtain. Speaking of creature comforts we had many close ups ( outside of the room) including monkeys, raccoons, giant frogs, praying mantis, and occasionally Xena, Trey's very sweet dog would run through on her security rounds. We would highly recommend Trey's place for those people wanting to escape the busy atmosphere and sometimes dusty roads of Santa Teresa and experience more of a true, tranquil Nicoya Peninsula/ Costa Rica jungle experience! Thanks so much Trey!

Trey made us feel very welcome on his beautiful property. My partner and I enjoyed our first surfing lesson with Trey, which was a wonderful experience! The surrounding beaches are gorgeous and we wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the coast.

I'm a surfer/traveler who stumbled upon Mal Pais and Santa Teresa in 1993 and never could quite let go. I made the Manzanillo/Playa Hermosa area my home in 2001 and have never looked back - great waves, incredible natural setting, and interesting people - I've found my paradise.

I've been fortunate to have lived all over the US, travel the roads with rock bands, drive through Central America by Jeep, live in Europe and Japan - all the while surfing - but I have been more fortunate to have had total strangers open their homes, hearts, family and cultures to me and show me things I could have never learned on my own. I'll never be able to thank them for their kindness and teachings, but I can repay them by passing what I can on to others. There's nothing I enjoy more thansharing what I've found here in this small, but unique corner of the world.
