Description

The space

This is a great double bed, private room in the heart of Temple Bar, but on the quiet end! Everything in Dublin City Centre is no more than a five or 10 minute walk away. All the major transport hubs such as Train stations, Luas Tram and Bus stops to all parts of Dublin are within very easy reach. The AirLink bus from Dublin airport stops almost at our front door!

Wireless internet is included, as are multiple iPod/iPhone chargers and powered speakers. multiple plug converters for plug types from all around the world. There is also a large LCD TV with a wide range of channels in the living room.

We provide all bedclothes and towels and there is a washer and dryer if you wish to freshen up your clothes during your stay, free of charge. There is also a hairdryer and plug adapters to use in the room if you wish. You will have exclusive use of your own bathroom which has a shower and a full sized bath.

As there are over 200 restaurants and cafes within a 10 minute walk from the apartment you won't be short of places to eat! If you wish to cook for yourself the there are also full kitchen facilities in the apartment.

You essentially have all of Dublin city at your feet when you stay with me. You will have no need for transport of any kind to get around the city and can easily walk to a huge number of cultural and tourist spots.

On confirmation all guests receive a 1,000 word document with lots of hints and tips, including the best way to get from the airport, suggestions for things to do and see, along with a list of great places to eat.

Guest access

You will have access to living room with TV/Cable/DVD. You will also have full access to the kitchen and cooking facilities if you wish. There is also a washing machine and clothes dryer in the kitchen if you need it, for which there is no charge.

Interaction with guests

The meeting point is usually the Bittersweet Cafe (07:00hrs to 19:00hrs) which is 30 yards/metres up the hill from Airlink bus stop number 10. After 19:00hrs you will be met in the Legends Bar with is right across from the bus stop. From there you will be brought up to the apartment. You will also be provided with a personalised map which will give you an in-depth overview of where to visit and eat in the immediate vicinity of the apartment.

The neighborhood

We are so close to everything that it is almost criminal! The nearest coffee shop is 55 seconds (with many, many more within a 5 minute walk), the nearest pub is 45 seconds away (and again, with so many to choose from within easy walking distance), and your choice of restaurants is almost endless.

We are in the centre of the city, so some noise is to be expected.

Getting around

We are 30 seconds away from Stop Number 10 of the Airlink airport bus, and are within easy reach of the main train stations and central bus station. There are 2 Dublin Bike stations close by as well, and this bicycle sharing scheme even allows for tourists to get special passes, more details here:

Other things to note

LATE ARRIVALS: Please note that as it can take up to 2 hours to get to the apartment from the airport, the latest arrival/landing time I can normally accommodate is 20:00 hrs. Please check with me if you know you will be arriving after this time.

EARLY CHECK-INS: Early check-ins are welcome (particularly suited for early landing trans-Atlantic flights). For those making use of this please bear in mind that my previous nights guests do not normally check-out until around 11:00hrs. The early check-in allows you drop your luggage, get some hints and tips and to then head out to undertake some early sightseeing.

LATE CHECK-OUTS: Late Check-outs are never a problem. If a new guest is arriving on the day you leave then you are welcome to leave your luggage in the front room, take the keys with you, and return at time that is suitable for you to make your onward journey, free of charge.

PROFILE PICTURE: As an added security measure I also do not take bookings from guests who have no profile picture, or whose picture is of something that is obviously not them.

House Rules

Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)
Check in time is 12PM (noon) - 4PM

This is my home and I run a relaxed and easy apartment, but as we are in an apartment complex there is a requirement that noise is kept to a minimum after 11pm.

We do not allow pets and smoking is also not allowed inside the apartment, although there is an open air balcony just outside the front door for those need a cigarette every now and then :-)

The apartment is not suitable for young children, and not ideal for children over 12. Please contact me first if you are planning to bring children with you on your trip.

Other than these small things you can essentially treat this great space as your own home.

Dave's place is phenomenal! The location is perfect to public transportation (both city wide and to the airport), walkable to tourist attractions and close to plenty of restaurants and other necessities. The room is true to the description and Dave goes above and beyond to ensure that you have anything you may need. Additionally, Dave also made sure we were equipped with tips and tricks for getting around the city and gave us excellent recommendations. By far a superb host! Definitely book his place if it's available!

Dave is a great host the meet up information was very detailed which makes for an easy start. We were informed of what bus to get from the airport and where to get off. Dave met us at the bus stop which is right across the road from his place. On arrival we were given lots of information and a map with all of Dave's suggested places highlighted which we found very useful. The apartment is right in the middle of town and within walking distance of anything we wanted. Dave gave us our own space, but is really friendly and always on hand if there was anything we needed. The room was great and the place was stocked with some toiletries and tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits etc. We had a great stay and would definitely book here with Dave again.

Nice appartment! The best choice you can make in Dublin i think! In the middle of Temple Bar. You can visit the city all on foot. The Information from Dave before the trip was excellent. And the tips he gave to us were very good. I will come back soon to this lovely place! Arno

We were really happy with our stay at Dave's place! Location: Perfect. You couldn't have asked for a better location, and even though it's in the heart of Dublin it was fairly quiet at night with the fan on. It was seconds away from the bus stop that takes you in and out of the airport, making travelling so much easier. There's a lift/elevator in his apartment complex if you need it, and you'll be sleeping behind FOUR locked doors (two in the building, two in his house) if you are worried about safety. We never felt unsafe. Bedroom: Perfectly sized room fit with tea, instant coffee, water filter and kettle (plus cookies!). There was a desk/table for getting ready, a nice large mirror, fan, outlets, lights etc. I will say that the bed is snug for two people. We sleep on a double bed in Scotland, but this bed had to be tighter. It's also like our mattress -- you can feel the springs. It was a great deal, so I'm not complaining, but don't expect a luxurious mattress haha. Bathroom: You do have to walk down the hall to get to the bathroom, but it's a brief walk and Dave was home while we were there and I never bumped into him going back and forth. There's a door on the living/kitchen and to his room, so he kept those closed when he was home, making the hallway feel like an extension of our room. Plenty of towels, clean bathroom, good water pressure. There isn't a full door on the shower, though, so just be warned. Recommendations/Organization: Dave made us feel at ease right away because he sent us this HUGE list of details about the house, Dublin and his recommendations and he gave us an awesome map of the city. (I love maps!). We ate at the Boxty House and had an excellent meal, enjoyed breakfast at the Queen of Tarts and even walked all the way to O'Donoghue's pub for live music. All great recommendations! I've never stayed at such a clean and organized Airbnb. Arrival: My only complaint was that Dave was getting in about 2 hours after we were, so he had a friend let us in to the flat. She told us to meet her at 5:15, but didn't arrive until about 5:45 (and Dave walked in while she was showing us the flat). So we stood around waiting for a half hour, which isn't a big deal except we only had 48 hours in Ireland, and we were hungry and didn't want to sit down for food at the Legend's bar if his friend showed up at any minute. I know he can't control other people, and his friend was very nice once we met her, but I just wish she had let us know she'd be late so we could have walked around and gotten something to eat. All in all, a great stay!

I am from Dublin, Ireland but have spent quite a bit of time in Kansas, USA, and have travelled extensively since I was a teenager. As an experienced traveller I know what it is that is most precious to those who find themselves in foreign cultures; a clean bed, a welcoming host, some insights into where the locals go to eat and drink. I have taken all these thoughts and combined them into an experience that I love to have in my own travels.

I am a founder member of the Dublin Host Ambassador Group for Airbnb. Our group advises them of improvements we feel will enhance the whole Airbnb experience and we also direct new hosts on the road to creating positive memorable guest interactions.

While I am always pleased to meet people from any corner of the world, I have to admit that I have an immense fondness for Americans, this comes out of great experience I had living there when I was younger and for the huge amount of support and encouragement I received from some many Americans over so many years. I have not yet an American that I did not like!

I have also made many visits to Germany, Austria and Switzerland and enjoy interacting with guests from that neck of the woods. Please bear in mind though, that my German speaking skills extend to being able to order a beer and a donut :-)

I am a photographer who runs his own photography school which allows me to travel around Ireland, Europe and the USA to shoot scenes that I like, many of these are on the walls of the apartment. If you are also a keen photographer then I look forward to talking cameras, techniques and creativity with you. If you are not then I still look forward to hearing your story!
