Whether you are travelling to Cologne for a trade fair at Koelnmesse, for a concert in Lanxess Arena, to visit the Christmas markets or simply to explore the city: Our bright, spacious, comfortable and central studio apartment offers an ideal base.
The apartment comfortably fits two colleagues, two couples, or a family with children. There are two double beds: One in the main room, and the other in a semi-separate alcove connected to the main room. (We do not call it a second bedroom because it does not have a door, but it does afford some privacy.) Upon request, we are happy to set up an additional camp bed in the main room.
Our guests enjoy the comfortable double beds with high quality mattresses (sized 140 cm x 200 cm and 160 cm x 200 cm respectively), cable TV, wireless internet, washing machine and cooking facilities. Fresh towels and bed sheets are provided for your convenience. If you are traveling with small children, we are happy to lend you a cot, pram, high chair, sleeping bag, toys, bibs, or whatever else you may need.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the same building and are always available should problems arise, or if you want sightseeing tips. We love languages and are happy to talk to you in English, German, French, Italian or Russian, but if you don't feel like chatting, we'll leave you in peace.
The neighborhood is friendly, pleasant and 100% safe. Playground, restaurants, bars, grocery shops, an organic supermarket and no less than seven bakeries are all within a 200 meter radius of the apartment. Within five minutes, you can walk down to the river Rhine, go skating on the promenade or just hang out and enjoy the view of the Cathedral, which is directly opposite. Within fifteen minutes, you can walk to the Rhine Park, which boasts an adventure playground, cable cars across the river, and a thermal spa (the "Claudiustherme") for the ultimate wellness experience.
Getting around could not be easier. "Deutz/Messe (Cologne)" station, about ten minutes walk from the apartment, has direct connections to all major airports. Regular direct trains from Cologne/Bonn airport take only twelve minutes and cost 3 Euros per person.
To get to the Koelnmesse trade fair exhibition center, you can either walk for 12-15 minutes, or hop onto metro line 3 or 4 and get off at the first stop.
To get to Lanxess Arena: just walk. You can see it from the apartment and will be there in five minutes.
The Cathedral, historic city center, Christmas Markets, and many museums are also reachable on foot, within around 20 minutes.
In case it rains or if you are tired, metro lines 1, 3, 4, 7 and 9 are just around the corner (within five minutes walk) and provide affordable transport to most destinations across the city.
Other Things to Note
The apartment is located on the top floor of a beautiful 19th century listed building with a lot of flair but no lift. You'll have to walk up the stairs if you want to enjoy the roof terrace with its sunbathing, citygazing and BBQ opportunities. (The apartment is on the fifth floor if counted the European way (where the ground floor does not count as a "floor"), or sixth floor if counted the American way (where the ground floor is the first floor.)
Out of respect for our neighbors, we ask all guests to keep the noise down on the staircase. Also, please refrain from smoking inside the apartment, and always remember to close the slanted roof window before you leave.
Fergal and Helen made us very welcome to their lovely apartment, which was so well equipped. They had kindly filled the fridge with milk bread and beer as our flight had been delayed . Fergal also came to greet us and was very informative and enthusiastic and really wanted us to enjoy Cologne. There was city maps ,guide books.. really anything we could need, which made the weekend very enjoyable. The apartment was close to all local transport and very central for all the museums and the centre. After a long day walking in the city it was lovely to get back to this lovely warm apartment and relax, watch a dvd or sit on the small balcony with a
a nice cold German beer. Very Relaxing. Helen brought us a lovely basket of Chocolate eggs to celebrate Easter. We hope to get back at some time and would definitely recommend this apartment .
Lovely little flat, convenient for the cathedral. Pleasant hostess, who kindly let us stay an extra half day to leave our luggage.
Highly recommend the Claudius therme baths in cologne which are a half an hour walk away.
What a cozy little place! Helen's husband was there to meet us and gave us a great overview of Cologne. This place had everything we needed and we liked that it was just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Cologne. The little local neighbourhood was friendly and had everything we needed. The hosts also left us water, juice, yogurt, coffee and all the essentials. Would definitely stay again.
Helen and Fergal are extremely kind hosts! They are very delicate and nice people, the apartment is really clean and has all needed facilities. As we arrived on Sunday and all supermarkets were closed, they arranged some eggs, milk and other stuff for breakfast, and that was really sweet and caring.
I would strongly recommend this apartment both for visitors of Anuga trade fair (around 10 min walk) and for travelers (city center in a walk distance).
Cute apartment by the bridge in a quire neighbourhood. Very pleasant apartment and a nice place to stay.
I strong recommend this place, we had a great time there, Helen's husband was very nice and gave us nice and important tips from the city! The apartment is about 10 minutes from a train station which goes to the airport,Dusseldorf, Boon... and there are supermarkets and restaurants nearby!
You can walk to the cathedral, about 20 minutes, very nice walk thou :)
The apartment is exactly as it shows, they left us bread, milk, cheese, eggs and more :) so you can have a breakfast for start your day :) Thank you very much for everything ;)
We had a wonderful stay in the apartment, which was equipped just as described. We were warmly welcomed by Fergal, who was very friendly and helpful - a perfect host. The fridge and cupboards were equipped with some basics, which we were very grateful for and we were even able to use the apartment several hours longer. I can highly recommend to stay at this place!
