The Wild Atlantic Way passes the entrance. We are close to beaches and shops, and walks from the house provide stunning scenery towards Innishboffin, Clare Island and the mountains of Mayo with Croagh Patrick in the distance. It is an ideal base for driving tours south around the Sky Road and through Clifden to Roundstone and north to Letterfrack National Park, Kylemore Abbey, Killary Harbour and the beautiful peninsula of Renvyle.

The space

We are renting out a 1-bedroom apartment on 2 floors with basic but lovely country house furnishings, and two bathrooms, right off the beautifully rugged Connemara coast, between Cleggan and Claddaduff. The beach is a beautiful 10-minute walk away. The place contains a spacious upstairs bedroom with a double bed and a single bed and a desk (and a view of the bog), and a downstairs living room (which can be turned into a bedroom) with a double futon bed and en suite bathroom, an kitchen and dining area. The apartment is attached to the back of a larger house, but has it's own entrance and complete privacy. There is parking available.

We are within a short walking distance of the stunning Connemara Coast with it's white sandy beaches and the small town of Cleggan, a 3 minute drive away, where you will find a shop and three pubs and a Fish&Chip shop. The historic and beautiful town of Clifden is a 15-minute drive away. In Cleggan and Clifden, where you can rent bikes, there are a number of nice cafes that offer free WiFi. You will need a car however, as public transport is too infrequent.

This is a great area for adults and kids alike (our grandchildren love it!); there are spectacular beaches nearby, the ferry can be gotten from Cleggan over to Inishbofin ((URL HIDDEN) and walking through the colorful Connemara scenery and picking flowers and feeding horses is a treat! Nearby Cleggan (a 3-minute car ride or 20-min walk) also offers Sea and Fresh Water Angling, Horse Rising, Golf, and Boating. We have spectacular sunsets here, and this is a great area for landscape and nature photographers, and bird watching. The spectacular SKY ROAD is nearby, and please also note the annual Pony Show in Clifden in August.

The daily and weekly rate include electricity, linen and towels. Available all year round. No pets please, and no smoking. 4-day minimum stay. Please note: There is a 50€ cleaning charge per stay.

Everything was better than expected. Niall was an excellent host, and the living space was quite ample and comfortable. Perfect for exploring Connemara.

We had a lovely time in this very spacious house. A great situation for discovering Connemara with a beautiful view from the house. Niall was very helpful and even checked in during the time. We were sad to leave, time definitely passed too quickly and we would be happy to come again.

We had a pleasant stay at Niall's place. He wasn't in Ireland while we were there, and we didn't actually meet Barry in person, but we had no trouble finding the place from Niall's good directions, and were able to let ourselves in. The house is clean and comfortable, and as it says on the tin, it's a basic, no-frills holiday house. It's very well situated to explore the surrounding towns and countryside, and is close to the sea and other lovely places for walks. There still seems to be an issue with the upstairs cistern, but otherwise everything else was fine.

The accommodation is situated in a truly beautiful spot with several attractions nearby and wonderful walks. Delightful pubs and eateries in the locality. Niall provided useful info. and advice prior to our arrival but Barry, the caretaker, did not put in an appearance during our stay and the property seemed somewhat unloved and ill-equipped, and not well-cleaned. Although we were told to " leave it as we found it", we actually left it a lot cleaner and felt the cleaning fee unjustified in the circumstances. Had to pour saucepans of water into the upstairs toilet cistern on the last day to flush it, as the cistern was not filling properly. Rather curt instructions around the place about not putting anything except toilet paper down the loos so maybe a plumbing problem there? Downstairs loo seat was broken and shot sideways when sat on.

Response from Niall:
I'm very sorry to hear you found the place in poor order. It is towards the end of the season but this is no excuse. Unfortunately for personal reasons I have not been able to get to Connemara myself all summer, but previous reviews seemed to indicate that everything was o'k. (incidentally the note re the loo paper is simply because of the limitations of a septic tank, which I am sure you are aware of from your travels, apologies if the note appeared curt; I don't know what the issue was with the cistern, unless water pressure was low for some reason. I hope this does not discourage you from returning to Ireland Apologies & best regards Niall

Great setting in such a beautiful part of the country and we enjoyed going around the coast north and south. The apartment itself is very comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. Sorry we didn't get to meet Niall but enjoyed our chat with Barry.

Even though we did not get to see our host or the contactperson in person, they were very informative and ready to answer all our questions. Everything was well arranged, lots of info was available about special sights in the area. The appartment was bigger than expected, well equipped (toys for our son), and it's location was perfect; ocean view, close to a wonderful beach, and close to ferry at Cleggan and not very far from Clifden.

We, Niall and Eileen Humphreys, live in Dublin and holiday in the bungalow at the front of the house; the apartment is fully self contained with its own entrance to the back.

Note: The apartment is to the back of the bungalow shown; as stated it has its own entrance
