If you are looking for that Hawaiian style getaway right here in Central California, then look no further. We live on a large property overlooking the Pacific Ocean and redwood forests that features a botanical garden with exotic tropical fruit and over 100 species of rare tropical palms. A waterfall nested in the midst of a lush palm and fern forest will make you feel like you are somewhere on the islands. We have fresh home grown cherimoyas, highland papayas, sapotes, macadamias, rare citrus and much more.
Our home is a Mediterranean Spanish-roof style estate that also features a very spacious one bedroom apt/studio that can accomodate 2 people and possibly a child on the pullout sofa bed. You will have a bathroom with shower, a full kitchen with all amenities, and washer and dryer. The bamboo hardwood floors are newly laid. There is a separate bedroom and a separate dining room, but the floor plan is open, so there are only minor walls to separate the spaces, hence it could also be called a studio.
We are walking distance from Henry Cowells State Park, Pasatiempo Golf course, and a 10 minute drive from Central California's warmest and sunniest beaches. You can shop in downtown Santa Cruz and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the Warf all within minutes driving from here. You can also drive up the coast for 20 minutes and find secluded pristine beaches and beautiful cliffs. We know all the secret spots and will let you know how to get there.
We are open to share our garden with our guests. Hundreds come and visit annually just to see the amazing biodiversity of plants in our little botanical garden. Our palmetum features exotic palms from Madagascar, Central America, the Andes of South America, Brazil and Asia, including Andean coconuts, bismarckia nobilis and the Brazilian Jelly palm. We also have a large collection of dypsis and sabal palms. The orchard features an assortment of tropical and exotic fruit, with 50 rare citrus as well as 800 varieties of apples. We have fruit available year round.
We are looking to share our little piece of paradise with open minded guests who also share our belief that the world is a better place through more kindness and tolerance. World travelers are most welcome. We are fluent in French and German as well.
Please note: the property is on a steep hillside and has a lot of stairs. If you are not fit to handle stairs, then we are unable to accomodate you.
Note: Unfortunately, AirB&B violates all local US city and county ordinances by not supporting the ability to collect local hotel taxes. Therefore we are left on our own to collect the 13% hotel tax, which is due at arrival which needs to be paid in cash or check.

Great friendly hosts. Clean bright unit.
Had the pleasure of staying in the cloud forest over valentines day weekend. As first time airbnb-ers, my gf and I were very happy with our decision to stay among the palms in this modern and comfortable space.
Axel's place was perfect for me, my husband and teenage son as we visited our daughter at UCSC. It was very well equipped with high quality details throughout. Sadly for us, it rained the entire weekend so we could not enjoy the garden--next time! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
A beautiful, relaxing place to stay! We were so pleased with this space - tidy, perfectly laid out, comfy Queen bed, and a beautiful environment that seems away from it all - but is just a 15-minute jaunt to downtown Santa Cruz. Axel was very helpful in getting us settled in and showing us the ins and outs of the cottage. This is hands down the best AirBNB unit we've tried to date.
Axel's property is a lush jungle setting in a beautiful, private gated community, just north of town (technically, still within the Santa Cruz zip code). It is a 5 minute drive to the house from the city limits, but it is an exquisite setting, well worth the drive (not good for those without a car). The guest unit is efficiently arranged and immaculately clean. The bed was totally comfortable and the linens were, as well. It is everything you would need in a studio apartment. Axel, the host, is passionate about his garden and has collected a variety of palm specimens from mostly high elevation zones around the world. He took us on a tour of the property, which was a fascinating introduction to palms of the world and a nice bonus! The only downside was that we couldn't get the WI-FI or the TV to work, but overall, not a big problem for us. We would definitely stay there again on our next trip to Santa Cruz and I would highly recommend it to others as a great value and perfectly lovely accommodation for any length of stay.
Nice quiet studio in a beautiful surroundings, I highly recommend.
Axel and Michelle were very accommodating to our last minute reservation and continued to have great communication with us throughout our stay. They were very friendly and approachable, my toddler son even had a little playdate with their son :)
The Cloudforest apartment was very clean and comfortable and the garden grounds were amazing! We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Santa Cruz.
Fantastic! This was my first time using Airbnb and I must say, I was really impressed. The studio was spacious, the environment calming, and the location was just far enough outside of town to feel completely private, while amenities were a mere ten minutes away. The perfect place for a grad student to get some work done! Thanks, Axel!
Like a Tokyo apartment, space was modern, clean, and efficient. Kitchen had all the essentials. Washer and dryer were a welcome relief after a few days of traveling. Bed was comfortable.
Location was short drive to town -- not in walking distance. Our rental car, a Toyota Corolla, fit in the parking spot without issue, but larger vehicles, e.g., Suburban, would be tricky.
Hosts were friendly and helpful, encouraged us to walk around and enjoy their garden. We were surprised to see oranges growing this far north.
We stayed at the Cloudforest while on a job up in Santa Cruz. So happy we did. Really beautiful place and wonderful time. The fruit trees and birds (hummingbirds) were really amazing. Axel truly has an amazing getaway, close to great hiking, close to Santa Cruz, and you definitely feel safe & secure here. Thanks so much!
