About this listing
Alder Brook Cabin is a small rustic lodge on the edge of the woods. It features a single room with attached screened porch, bunks for two, electric lights, a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave and WIFI. Enclosed outdoor hot and cold shower and marine style toilet are located twenty five feet away. The porch is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee, a glass of wine or tumbler of scotch in the evening. Board games are available. There is a fire pit with benches outside for cozy evenings by the fireside and marshmallow toasting. Firewood is supplied.
This is "Glamping" at its best: almost camping but without the bugs and sleeping on the hard ground! Instead, be close to the outdoors but enjoy fresh flowers, pressed sheets, lush cotton bath linens, and the hottest, strongest shower you've had in years. What more could you ask?
We are ten miles outside of Burlington and four miles out of Essex Junction. Stowe and Ben and Jerry's are a forty minute drive. A multiplex theater, grocery and outlet stores, restaurants and mini golf are all found within a mile of the cabin. Parking is a few feet away onsite and we are on a limited bus route. (no weekend service)
This is a place for folks who want to "rough it" a bit but still maintain some creature comforts. We love it but it's not for everyone. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
This year the cabin has additional electrical outlets for convenient charging of electronic devices. We're already off to a great season with our usual wonderful late spring weather and lots of new friends visiting the cabin. We're looking forward to meeting and welcoming you to our special little corner of Vermont. See you soon!
Check in time is 4:00pm to 9:00pm only.
The space includes the use of a nearby firepit which is supplied with firewood and kindling as well as the yard and boules court.
Interaction with Guests
We do our best to give guests their privacy but we are available for as much interaction as you would like. The choice is yours.
The neighborhood is a fairly quiet residential area. Behind the cabin is an extensive forested area with a brook.
There is a bus approximately every half hour from 6:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays. The nearest stop is about 200 feet down the street. There is no service on weekends. Schedules are available.
Other Things to Note
We will only accommodate two guests. Please do not bring an extra guest beyond a total of two. We will be unable to accommodate them. With prior arrangement we will accept a small baby with its own sleeping arrangements. We're sorry to have to make this restriction but, the cabin is quite small and the facilities too restrictive for more.
Most of all we want you to enjoy yourselves. We ask that you do not have any open flames. If you wish to use a camp stove please ask first. Some evenings in the spring and fall are rather chilly and we will provide an electric heater if it is needed. We also ask that guests keep the sound level low after 10:00 in respect for those who need to sleep. We live on the property and will meet you when you arrive. If we're not right there, the cabin is open and you may go right in and make yourself at home. Check in time is 4:00pm to 9:00pm. After 9:00 pm doors will be locked and there will be no one available to give you admittance. If you must arrive later, please contact us in advance so we can work something out for you. We regret that we can no longer allow pets in the cabin.
Sam and Fran were very welcoming, the beds quite comfortable, and the outdoor shower was lovely. It was a perfect weekend to visit Vermont. Sam was also kind enough to pick up some Heady Topper to save me the trouble of finding it in the store (which can apparently be tough). The chickens were also pretty adorable. :) Thanks again for everything!
This rustic cabin is everything we were hoping it would be, and honestly, much more. Sam came and met us when we arrived, and throughout our stay was so very helpful and kind - even allowed me to receive mail I needed for work. We were very impressed by the balance Sam has of giving his guests privacy, as well as being present and attentive to any needs or questions that arise. We lacked nothing, received everything the posting promised, and still found more things to be excited about that we weren't anticipating. This spot was awesome, and we highly recommend it!
The back porch is so lovely at night, and after months in the city, was so pleasing to our ears. The location is very convenient for local spots. We had a great time, and do hope to pass another visit there again someday.
If you're passing through Burlington, or surrounding areas, do not miss the chance to stay in this lovely spot with these lovely people!

We had a great experience for a quick one night stay at the rustic cabin. The outdoor shower and "camping" feel was all we could've asked for with our stay in VT. Sam was easy to communicate with prior to and welcomed up upon arrival. Will definitely stay again!
We had a lovely time at this charming cottage! Best of both worlds—close to the restaurants of Burlington and hiking in nearby state parks. Relaxing getaway.
Sam and Fran's place could not have been a better experience! All of the chickens came up to greet us when we got there;) Sam was extremely laid back and accommodating to our circumstances all the while giving us recommendations to what turned out to be our favorite part of Burlington (The Whisky Room and Leunig's). The cabin itself was so charming and contained one of the more comfortable mattresses I slept on during our trip. The back deck was full of the smell of the woods and very private. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting to spend some time in Burlington while camping glamorously- the value is extraordinary.
Thanks. We had a great time. Rustic is a good description. It is a lot like camping, but with some more amenities and no soggy sleeping bags.
Sam was very welcoming and immediately greeted us at the cabin. He showed us how to work the showers, toilet, and use the facilities. The cabin was very clean and comfortable! He also gave us fresh bread and butter for an evening snack. Will definitely return if in the Burlington area!
About the Host, Sam And Fran

Together we enjoy entertaining family and friends, both old and new, traveling, gardening, raising chickens and relaxing at home. We especially enjoy trips to Quebec City. We have an abiding love of dogs of all shapes and sizes. Sam handles most of the rental responsibilities and likes nothing more than to spoil our lodgers, often providing freshly baked treats from his kitchen.
