Alder Brook Cabin is a small rustic lodge on the edge of the woods. It features a single room with attached screened porch, bunks for two, electric lights, a small fridge, coffee maker and WIFI. Enclosed outdoor hot and cold shower and marine style toilet are located twenty five feet away. The porch is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine or tumbler of scotch in the evening. Board games are available. There is a fire pit with benches outside for cozy evenings by the fireside and marshmallow toasting. Firewood is supplied.
This is "Glamping" at its best: almost camping but without the bugs and sleeping on the hard ground! Instead, be close to the outdoors but enjoy fresh flowers, pressed sheets, lush cotton bath linens, and the hottest, strongest shower you've had in years. What more could you ask?
We are ten miles outside of Burlington and four miles out of Essex Junction. Stowe and Ben and Jerry's are a forty minute drive. A multiplex theater, grocery and outlet stores, restaurants and mini golf are all found within a mile of the cabin. Parking is a few feet away onsite and we are on a limited bus route. (no weekend service)
This is a place for folks who want to "rough it" a bit but still maintain some creature comforts. We love it but it's not for everyone. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
This year the cabin has been completely redone inside to add a more camp-like feeling and to tighten up some annoying draughts in cooler weather. We hope this will provide an even more enjoyable experience for our guests. We hope you will visit soon and make Alder Brook Cabin your temporary "Home Away From Home!"
Our season ended on October 15th. We want to thank all of our wonderful lodgers who made 2013 an incredible season. We hope to see many (if not all) of you back next year. As always, we are available to take reservations all winter and will promptly respond to all inquiries. We hope you all have a wonderful winter!
Check in time is 4:00pm to 9:00pm only.
Sam was friendly and flexible with our check in time. He was also very quick to respond to our booking request. The cottage was very cute and cozy, and it was very easy to get to the train station from there in the morning. We were very happy to have such a pleasant experience as it was our first time using airbnb.
We had a great time at the cabin! It was cozy, had nice plush beds, and a very relaxing porch that overlooks some wilderness. Great outdoor hot shower, eventhough in crisp Fall weather. Potty is unique, but was super clean. Sam provided wood and kindling wood for a nice campfire. You would want to bring a flash light, just like you would on a camping trip. And it was so sweet of Sam & Fran for surprising us with some homebaked apple pie to come home to after a rainy day of hiking :-)
My stay here was short, one rainy night to one rainy morning.
This is a very small cabin, overlooking a valley. I could see spending some time here as a retreat to be alone or get creative. The outdoor bathroom arrangements did not feel very private so I opted to shower somewhere else later. The place has nice nature sounds and also a pleasant smell I can only describe as campsy.
Coffee and fresh flowers are nice extra touches.
Only spent a quick overnight in this cozy little cabin, but loved every minute of it. Really got me feeling like I'd like to live in a tiny little cabin someday.
Their place is just a short drive out of Burlington, which was very convenient. Sam was very accommodating of our schedule, and very welcoming. The porch was a great place for breakfast in the morning, it's situated to give you a wonderful feeling of privacy and distance. The outdoor shower was my favorite part, the water pressure and temp were great and the view was worlds better than in your average shower. We also got to meet a flock of very hansom chickens. Ask Sam to tell you their names. :)
In short, I highly recommend Sam and Fran's cabin to anyone looking for cozy and rustic accommodations in the Burlington area.
The rustic cottage is exactly as it looks in the pictures. It was perfect for a one night stay. Very cozy and warm inside. Equipped with awesome Green Mountain coffee and coffeemaker and also a little bar fridge that had some cream for my morning coffee. Working outdoor camping style facilities were very clean. When we got up in the morning we found some chickens wandering the yard :) Sam was great. He was quick to respond to any questions I had when making this arrangement. He was also very friendly and accommodating when my boyfriend and I showed up. Gave us a quick tour and a little information about the area and somewhere we could eat closeby. I would definitely stay here again.
Great place to stay- feels like your in the woods camping. Very rustic!
If you bring food into the cottage and decide to leave make sure its sealed otherwise little critters will have a nice snack/meal. Otherwise a wonderful experience. Also, the outdoor shower was quite enjoyable!
We needed to book a place in Burlington last minute and on a budget. Sam responded quickly and had the place looking lovely when we arrived. It was comfortable and everything was thought of! We wished we could have stayed longer as Sam seemed like an awesome host. Thanks!
Sam's cottage left no detail unaccounted for - rustic meets luxurious, and certainly adorable and comfortable. Having built the cottage, it is clear that Sam had a keen eye for aesthetics and utility, and we enjoyed finding little signs of this throughout the cottage. Be sure to note the clock tower on the "neighbors'" coop - how whimsical! Sam was welcoming and informative, but certainly left us to do our thing. Of course the shower and the toilet are outside, but as private as possible and extremely clean - if outside is not your thing, then you likely want to look elsewhere, but I'm about as finicky as they come and I enjoyed it for the novelty and efficiency. The cottage is about a 20 minute drive from Burlington, but it's an easy ride with all of your modern suburban conveniences, should you need them. We will hope to stay there again if we return to the Burlington area!
This is our second stay in the Rustic Cottage. Enjoyed the privacy, people and great shower!
It is a very cosy place. There is a lot of hiking to do nearby. The town has everything you may need, just a few minutes away. It was a pleasant stay.
