Alder Brook Cabin is a small rustic lodge on the edge of the woods. It features a single room with attached screened porch, bunks for two, electric lights, a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave and WIFI. Enclosed outdoor hot and cold shower and marine style toilet are located twenty five feet away. The porch is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee, a glass of wine or tumbler of scotch in the evening. Board games are available. There is a fire pit with benches outside for cozy evenings by the fireside and marshmallow toasting. Firewood is supplied.
This is "Glamping" at its best: almost camping but without the bugs and sleeping on the hard ground! Instead, be close to the outdoors but enjoy fresh flowers, pressed sheets, lush cotton bath linens, and the hottest, strongest shower you've had in years. What more could you ask?
We are ten miles outside of Burlington and four miles out of Essex Junction. Stowe and Ben and Jerry's are a forty minute drive. A multiplex theater, grocery and outlet stores, restaurants and mini golf are all found within a mile of the cabin. Parking is a few feet away onsite and we are on a limited bus route. (no weekend service)
This is a place for folks who want to "rough it" a bit but still maintain some creature comforts. We love it but it's not for everyone. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
This year the cabin has additional electrical outlets for convenient charging of electronic devices. We are currently closed for the winter season but, opening day is 15 May. We will, of course take reservations for this season at any time. Meanwhile, we hope you've had a wonderful winter season and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
Check in time is 4:00pm to 9:00pm only.
The space includes the use of a nearby firepit which is supplied with firewood and kindling as well as the yard and boules court.
Interaction with Guests
We do our best to give guests their privacy but we are available for as much interaction as you would like. The choice is yours.
The neighborhood is a fairly quiet residential area. Behind the cabin is an extensive forested area with a brook.
There is a bus approximately every half hour from 6:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays. The nearest stop is about 200 feet down the street. There is no service on weekends. Schedules are available.
Other Things to Note
We will only accommodate two guests. Please do not bring an extra guest beyond a total of two. We will be unable to accommodate them. With prior arrangement we will accept a small baby with its own sleeping arrangements. We're sorry to have to make this restriction but, the cabin is quite small and the facilities too restrictive for more.
Most of all we want you to enjoy yourselves. We ask that you do not have any open flames. If you wish to use a camp stove please ask first. Some evenings in the spring and fall are rather chilly and we will provide an electric heater if it is needed. We also ask that guests keep the sound level low after 10:00 in respect for those who need to sleep. We live on the property and will meet you when you arrive. If we're not right there, the cabin is open and you may go right in and make yourself at home. Check in time is 4:00pm to 9:00pm. After 9:00 pm doors will be locked and there will be no one available to give you admittance. If you must arrive later, please contact us in advance so we can work something out for you. We regret that we can no longer allow pets in the cabin.
The cabin itself was exactly as I had hoped! It is a perfectly comfortable little space with everything you need. We were the last visitors for the year and it was a chilly night, but the space heater kept us MORE than warm. The cabin is adorable and the surroundings beautiful. Sam was sweet and even gave us a warm loaf of bread upon arrival, can't ask for more than that!
My first AirBnB experience was amazing and exactly what we were looking for! I want to go back! Our favorite parts: eating dinner and drinking wine on the porch while it rained...comfy beds...the space heater in the cabin kept us warm...the outdoor shower was so relaxing...The pressure is strong and the water is hot. The shower and comfy beds were true treats after a day of hiking.
The description was perfectly accurate. One thing is that the cabin is closer to the owners' home than I thought it would be, but we were not bothered by this at all.
We only met Sam once but he was there to greet us and show us around. Overall, staying here was a fantastic little retreat and change of pace and we would highly recommend it!
The perfect AirBNB stay--the cabin is exactly as pictured and as described, and Sam was a welcoming and efficient host, pointing out everything we needed to know. The shower was delightfully warm, even on a cold morning, and the heater did a good job of warming up the cabin. The wifi barely reached us, but no matter--that's not why we came to stay at a rustic little cabin at the edge of the woods! The chickens were happy and inquisitive neighbors, and the fall colors in suburban Essex Junction were a special treat. A great spot to visit in northern Vermont, with an experienced host who makes it all as easy as can be.
This was the cutest place, loved the back porch and the shower was awesome. The chickens are bad beggars but were sweet and funny. Sam was very nice and showed us the ropes.
The cabin was a treat! We enjoyed staying cozy inside while it rained, and seeing the chickens out and about when it was dry. The porch was especially wonderful. The internet was spotty but it was not a terrible inconvenience. The location was not far from town and Sam was easy to get a hold of.
Had a great time in the cabin. It was clean and cosy and has everything we needed. We used the fire pit which was fun and actually quite enjoyed the outdoor shower!
Sam and Fran's cabin was a wonderful place to spend the night. Our stay was brief, but the accommodations were very comfortable and the fall weather was beautiful. The outdoor shower is the perfect way to start the day. I would definitely stay here again - Longer next time!
Sam is a lifetime (with a few breaks) resident of Vermont, a cabinetmaker, chef, historian and novelist. Fran is an internship coordinator at the University of Vermont. Together we enjoy entertaining family and friends, both old and new, traveling, gardening, raising chickens and relaxing at home. We especially enjoy trips to Quebec City. We have an abiding love of dogs of all shapes and sizes. Sam handles most of the rental responsibilities and likes nothing more than to spoil our lodgers, often providing freshly baked treats from his kitchen.
