The House of Screwball is a converted 2 bedroom industrial loft in Bushwick. It is a unique multi-use space. It is our home and production office for our events. Our style is 60s/70s bohemian thrift store chic.
We are on the 4th floor with huge front-facing windows, lots of light, 14-foot ceilings, some spider plants and hardwood floors. Open plan living room/kitchen/office with two private bedrooms and one bathroom. Easy access to the roof one flight up with amazing views of Manhattan.
Private bedroom for rent is 200 square feet with two large windows, a ceiling fan, and a queen sized bed. Pillow is hypo-allergenic down alternative and memory foam. Clean sheets. Bring your own towel.
Full bathroom is clean and cheerful with a sky blue ceiling.
The kitchen has a gas stove, new stainless steel fridge, and all kitchenware included.
We cook most nights and are open to sharing meals. Feel free to use the kitchen. Laundry in the basement for twenty five cents. Free Netflix and Free Wi-Fi.
Close to M train CENTRAL stop and L train DEKALB stop, 25 Minutes to Manhattan, close to many buses (B38, 54, 60), Maria Hernandez Park, good grocery stores, great coffee shops, hip bars (there's a new one open every week, it seems), many restaurants, bookstores, yoga and thrift stores. Brooklyn Public Library branch close by. Free alternate side parking on the block and easy to find.
Bushwick is going through major changes these days, so some parts may look rougher than others, but appearances can be deceiving. There are little gems everywhere you look. We've lived here for 5 years and love it more all the time.
We are a married couple.
Darcey works out of the house and Kevin works a day job. Room is private but we are sociable and have guests frequently.
LGBT and Queer Friendly (for reals)
We like to throw parties, but we don't "party."
No hard drugs/no drama.
CAT LOVERS! We have a cat! She is very playful and friendly and she will try to be friends with you. If you are cool with that, then this is the place for you.
Travel to JFK is an hour by subway or either JFK or LGA for a $30 cab ride.
We are seasoned hosts with many years of experience hosting touring bands and friends from around the world.
We know that you will enjoy your stay with us, as so many have. xo
Please, no extra overnight guests without prior approval and payment.
No other pets. (We have a cat and we'd rather avoid inter-pet drama)
Be considerate of loud noises after midnight.
Clean up after yourself. Anarchy means doing your dishes + 1. Be responsible.
If you break something, say so. Leave our place better than you found it.
Room has a private storage loft, please do not go in there, thank you.
Love is the law. Good vibes and good conversation appreciated.
No smoking tobacco in the house (smoking area on roof one flight up).
No excessive drinking, no hard drugs, no drama.
Lock top lock ONLY on front door when you leave.
Kevin & Darcey's place was really spacious, warm & welcoming. Both of them are kind people and create a naturally chill atmosphere. The area they're staying is changing in a fast pace. If you want to experience New York and decide on Brooklyn you might want to pick Bushwick over Williamsburg.
If you like cats you're in for a treat.
I had a splendid time with Darcey and Kevin. They are great hosts, and very interesting people., open for discussions and exchange of ideas. The appartment makes you feel right at home, the room is as nice as described, but styled with much more lovely details than can be seen on the pictures. The location offers easy and fast access to the city. A must-book!
I think K&D was real artists. Although I couldn't speak english fluently,
Darcey tryied to understand me always. And Her cat 'Igor' was so cute.
