Farmstead Cottage in Hudson Valley

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Schoonmaker Ln, Stone Ridge, NY 12484, United States

The Space

This cozy cottage along with two barns was once part of a a working farm. Hand-hewn original oak post and beam construction is exposed; it gives the cottage and its cathedral ceilings, a light drenched airy ambience. Equipped with a full kitchen, one gets the country rustic atmosphere without forfeiting modern conveniences. The reclaimed wood siding in the bedroom catches the early morning light reflections of the sunrise. Hand-crafted details abound, the cabinetry, hand-made glass, and photography add accents to the decor.
The bucolic surroundings are a great place for respite. One can relax in our perennial gardens or sit in the shade of the one hundred year old wooden barn amongst the hummingbirds and barn swallows. At night sit on our deck and enjoy a starry night or moon shadows without street-lighting to impede the night sky.
Located in Stone Ridge, we are only minutes away from the historic village center which is convenient for restaurants, groceries, wine, and farm fresh products. At the same time, we are located on a quiet country road.
Our landscape is peppered with horse farms, corn fields and even an alpaca farm!

  • We had a very relaxing time at Lisette & Reinhold's farmstead cottage. The rain had delayed our arrival but our hosts were certainly accommodating. The place is very cute and spotless, the bed very comfy. I highly recommend stepping outside at sunrise, the light was beautiful and you might even see some deers in the mist. We had breakfast on the porch then headed to Minnewaska State Park after chatting with Reinhold. Great hosts, lovely place, give it a try!

  • Lisette's cottage is adorable! It's one big space decorated with a lot of good taste and with everything you may need for a weekend outside the city. It's also very close to a few nice little towns and good hikes. Totally recommended!

  • Lisette and Reinhold's cottage is a gorgeous, peaceful retreat from the city. The cottage is comfortably spacious yet intimate. The space is filled with light during the day and very well-designed.

We were able to cook meals for ourselves and enjoy beautiful winter days during our a cozy, reclusive weekend away. We also enjoyed some really delicious dinners at nearby restaurants that Lisette and Reinhold recommended in a very helpful guide they've drafted for guests.

The cottage is very well-equipped for cooking and spreading out if you need workspace--we used our weekend at the cottage to clear our heads from work and plan our upcoming wedding. The internet was very solid, too!

  • Lisette and Reinhold's cottage is an incredibly peaceful and well-appointed oasis located conveniently near several great towns. Only two hours north of New York City, it's a little piece of pastoral paradise.

Situated beside two beautiful old barns, the cottage is the perfect admixture of modern and rustic. Warmly decorated, spaciously arranged, with all the conveniences you could want including a stocked kitchen and fast wi-fi, it's the perfect place to escape from the chaos of NYC. We picked up some groceries at the nearby food co-op, and cooked several tasty meals. At night, we strolled around the surrounding field and gazed up at the starlit sky, returning inside the cozy cottage warmed by a gas fireplace. By day, we explored the surrounding area, which is an embarrassment of riches both natural and cultural.

Lisette and Reinhold were friendly, gracious, highly considerate hosts. We really couldn't have asked for more. I highly recommend staying here the next time you're passing through this most magical part of the Hudson River Valley.

  • This adorable modern cottage on a rustic farm property is a terribly romantic and wonderful getaway. We stopped along the way and took side roads but I would imagine it would take about 2 hrs to drive up from NYC. The property is huge and Lisette and Reinhold have created such a great experience. We maximized our use of the fully stocked kitchen and fresh herb garden to cook some great meals. (We bought fresh local organic produce, eggs etc (email hidden)-op in nearby High Falls). We ate out on the porch at the outdoor bistro table and took in the views. The space is cool, clean and modern but very cozy and the internet is fast. The property sits between a couple great towns to grab a meal, coffee or a stroll. Lisette and Reinhold are great hosts. They met us upon arrival to show us around the property, answer questions and share suggestions for fun activities. We would definitely come back!

  • Great stay! Lisette & Reinhold were really welcoming hosts and are very easy to communicate with. Their cottage is as good as it looks; cozy, private, and has everything you need to cook and relax. The area is very open and peaceful with beautiful views and starry night skies. We did not want to leave and would highly recommend their cottage to our friends or anyone looking for a relaxing upstate getaway!

  • We had a great stay. It began with a very warm welcome by our hosts who were eager to make sure we had a good stay. Communication was excellent. The cottage was spacious, with rustic and modern features. This is a perfect location for seeing the Hudson Valley, located in a beautiful rural setting, but convenient to many towns and attractions. One special note: I had emailed after noticing a lack of a sofa table only to arrive at the cottage to find that Reinhold had specially made one in time for our stay - very thoughtful!

  • My experience at the Farmstead was seamless, easy, relaxing, beautiful, everything you would want from a city escape. Lisette and Reinhold were amazing, thoughtful hosts, who even voluntarily helped dig out our car during a large snowfall. The cabin is spotless, includes everything you would need, comfortable bed, great heating. The town is terrific with lot's of options for dining and long walks. Not only would I recommend this to anyone looking for a short getaway but I can't wait to come back myself! Thank you so much for such a memorable time.

I have been lucky to have lived in many different places. Through my training as an architect, I learned to have a great respect for the natural and built environment. When I travel, I like to understand a place through the lens of the people living there and their history. So when I saw our barns for the first time, I fell in love with them immediately. The barns and the rural landscape surrounding them are really a part of our shared iconic heritage. Unfortunately, each year many more barns disappear. We have been slowly renovating the barns on our own. Come enjoy them and relax in our bucolic surroundings!
