Have you ever wanted to comb a Highland cow? Relax while enjoying exquisite mountain views and gazing at the oldest registered fold of Highland cattle in the US grazing nearby. Highland House is on a working farm raising champion Highland breeding stock and grass-fed beef. Daily farm activities you are welcome to join or observe. On a low-traveled country road your stay is convenient to a large variety of attractions and fine restaurants in Montpelier, Stowe, NE Kingdom, Burlington and Canada.

The space
Highland House is a brand new 2022 two story home, with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The master bedroom and bath are on the first floor with two bedrooms upstairs and full bath upstairs. There is a full basement with a ping pong table. The hardwood flooring downstairs is Vermont Natural Yellow Birch. With large 5' windows the home is filled with natural light. The Farm Stay is on the property of the hosts however guests cannot see the host's house nor they Highland house, but because this is a working farm, the hosts are usually nearby if needed. You will be able to see the fields where the cattle graze and the barn where much of the farm interactive activities will take place. The view from Highland House is second to none, and almost every night you will be treated to a spectacular sunset extravaganza.

Guest access
Guests have use of the entire house and the large lawn outside the house. Unless accompanied by the hosts, guest will not go into the cow pastures. You might want to bring mud boots or older shoes to go into the barn, although hosts have several assorted sizes of boots you may borrow.

--A gift of a package of our 100% Grass Fed and Finished Highland Beef waiting in the freezer for you. More can be purchased on the farm if you wish.
--The option to participate in daily farm activities such as bottle feeding a calf, helping move the fold to new pasture, or riding in a tractor.
--An opportunity to pet and comb a Highland cow or calf from the oldest registered herd of Highland cattle in the US.
--A tour of a working farm with educational information about sustainable, regenerative farming, and humane raising of animals.
--A Highland stuffed animal to take home as a memento from your visit to Highland House.

Your farm stay is convenient to a large variety of attractions and fine restaurants. You will be 25 minutes from the beautiful gold-domed capitol in Montpelier- the smallest state capitol in the United States. 15 minutes to Bragg Farm Maple Gift Shop and Tours, and the best Maple Creemees! 40 minutes to Ben and Jerrys and Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury. 40 minutes to the Northeast Kingdom's Hill Farmstead Brewery (highest Rated Brewery in the world) and the award-winning cheeses of Jasper Hill Farm, Pete's Greens. Parker Pie Pizza has wonderful food and fun trivia nights! Burke Mountain is 45 minutes away with biking trails in the summer and ski slopes in the winter. 45 minutes to Stow and Sugarbush Ski resorts, with Jay Peak Ski and Waterpark and the Canandian Border just over an hour away. Other attractions include Rock of Ages Granite Quarry tours and the Granite Historical Museum in Barre. The Shelburne Museum historical site is in Shelburne, VT. Local dining options include many farm-to-table and ethnic choices. Positive Pie is right in Plainfield, and the new, hip, Fox Market Cafe and Bar is in East Montpelier.

Neighborhood highlights

Your Farm Stay house is on a quiet rural road. Although there are lovely neighbors on the road, you cannot see any other houses from the premises. You will be able to see the Highland cows and calves from your house and deck. The view from Highland House is one of the best in Vermont, if not the entire US!
