The Space

Welcome to this tastefully designed Japanese modern home in the Upcountry of Maui. Located at 3,000 ft. on the western slope of Haleakala, my home offers a serene environment with spectacular views of the north and southwest shorelines, the West Maui mountains, and beautiful valley below. This is a perfect location to plan your day trips all over the island and such a peaceful, relaxing place to come home to after your activities.
The house is fully furnished, gourmet kitchen, TV, Bose stereo, wireless internet, rain shower, outdoor dining area - all the comforts of home. I will make every effort to help you enjoy your stay and offer advice on your touring plans. If you like the company of a dog, Kula will provide loving concierge service as well.

  • We met Jeff the last day before we left because he was on the business trip. The house is fantastic and have million dollars view! I wish we were there longer, nice location (Kula) and close to the supermarket & restaurants (about 20 mins drive). Overall was a great experience.

  • Halekalani is the place to stay in Maui! Centrally located, quiet, relaxing, and having everything you could possibly need for your extended stay. It was a great home base for my family the eight days we were on the island. Jeff is a marvelous host and will try to accommodate your needs in anyway he can. His dog Kula was there to greet us as we returned from our daily journeys. On a return trip to Maui there is no question that we will stay there again.

  • Jeff was an excellent host and very accommodating. He came by when we first arrived to say hello and gave us a few pointers about the location. This location is great for those looking to visit Haleakala and a nice hot tub to relax in after hiking. It is also not far from the beach. The house itself was clean and comfortable with excellent views. The setting is also great for those looking to enjoy some peace and quiet (though hope you like roosters waking you up early!! - luckily, we didn't mind it) and cool night breezes. We wish we had stayed for longer. We would definitely stay again.

And don't forget about Kula, the resident dog. She was a joy to have around to welcome us back after a long day.

  • Awesome location to get away from it all!
The house is very well decorated and fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your vacation.

Great views of the island and of the stars.

    Thanks Jeff!

  • Jeff's place was exactly as pictured...very nice, modern, and with an amazing kitchen we made use of frequently. Loved the shower too! Having Kula there, as others have mentioned, was pretty much like having your own pet for the stay, which was a lot of fun! The location is perfect for visiting upcountry sites like the Haleakala summit, and it's also a good place from which to do the road to Hana. As Jeff recommended, you can actually do a full loop, which takes you right back home...it's an amazing drive!

Loved the place, and we were sad to leave.

  • My family had a wonderful time at Jeff's lovely Japanese-inspired guest home in one of the prettiest areas of Maui. We enjoyed the stunning views and gourmet kitchen, and Jeff made us feel right at home! The decor inside the cottage is so beautiful, from the colorful artwork to the wood-paneled high ceilings.

We had a great stay at this paradise retreat, and next time hope to stay for a longer visit. Kula is a great base for exploring Maui Upcountry, the Road to Hana, and the beaches. And, Kula (Jeff's dog) is super friendly and so cute!

Thanks, Jeff, for making my family's first Airbnb experience a great one. We were so lucky to find this gem of a home, and it was definitely a highlight of our vacation!

  • Thank you Jeff for sharing your amazing cottage with us. Such a beautiful space inside and out. From first thing in the morning - waking up in the most comfy bed to birdsong and the Hawaiian sun rising to make the sky pink and the two coasts glisten - to the evening of sunsets from the lanai and incredible stars in the hot tub. The beautiful detail in the cottage - art, furniture, fixtures - made for a decadent retreat. The view from the shower was amazing - and a door to let the breeze in - heaven. The location was perfect - we climbed Haleakala, surfed on the coast and explored the lush bamboo forests and waterfalls all in 3 days! Thank you for your extra effort to make us comfortable - the extra mattress for Ben was much appreciated. Look forward to having more time to get acquainted on our next visit. We miss having breakfast with Kula and her ever wagging tail! Thank you. Claudette, Mike, Ben and Sam

  • We arrived after dark so has no idea how special the bungalow and it's setting were! On waking we were able to appreciate the amazing location, glorious views and wonderful peace and quiet apart from bird song.
We found the bungalow to be very comfortable with all mod cons to make you feel at home.
The location was fabulous for all the sightseeing we had planned.
Particular highlights were the road to Hana, whale watching from the shore as well as on a boat trip, the trip to the crater (made even more special by being there at sunset)
We can't recommend the island, the accommodation and Jeff's hospitality enough.
A special mention should also go to kula the dog and Simon the cat - the "woof" we received from kula at the end of every long day out was very welcome and added to our very special memories

I live in Maui as a semi-retired veterinarian. I enjoy working at the Maui Humane Society to help when needed and also work for the Feline Foundation of Maui to spay and neuter feral cats. I also enjoy playing clarinet in chamber ensembles and am active in the local classical music scene. Maui has so much to offer - windsurfing, canoeing, hiking - I enjoy it (website hidden) and entertaining are a big part of life here among friends as well. I enjoy traveling and especially to get a fix of big city life with culture and music as a contrast to the mellow, laid-back pace here.
