Hale Kokomo is a beautiful home on the north shore of Maui built in 1929 featuring a cozy designer bed with organic cotton sheets in a clean, well decorated room. Fully equipped European style kitchen - we take food very seriously. Recently upgraded bathrooms appointed with stone flooring and granite counter tops as well as wood floors in the bedrooms. I love to decorate and my favorite channel is HGTV - so many great ideas. Our renovations have stayed consistent with the old world charm of this home and made it more efficient and user friendly. This home offers all the modern convinces while keeping the charm intact. WiFi for your internet needs so you can stay in touch if you really want to. Parking at your door in our private driveway.
Our neighborhood is rural. There are acres of wide open spaces around us. Green and peaceful -everyone loves it here! Not what’s expected of a resort destination like Maui. Just down the street is Haiku town where you’ll find restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as work-out weight training and yoga centers. The cycle shop in Haiku town offers rentals should you wish to see Maui from that perspective. You can even cycle down the volcano.
Our home is centrally located in close proximity to beaches and the near by towns of Paia, Makawao, Haiku and not so far from Pukalani. The airport is 15 minutes away - (4 traffic lights). Yoga and massage are available in the neighborhood. You will love the experience of living this close to nature and shopping at our local farmers markets for fresh, locally grown organic fruits, vegetables, hand crafts and much more.
We love our island and we’re happy to share all of our favorite spots with you - often only locals know about. We are sure you will love Up Country Maui as well. We stay in a constant mind set of gratitude and celebrate all the gifts this island has to offer. We practice Aloha and give it freely. If you would like to experience an authentic visit to Maui, feel free to contact us. Many blessings, Gary and Marianne Callari

Book your reservation with confidence.

Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you would like. We are open to any conversation. We both have jobs outside of hosting guests so there are times we must move on to our work schedule.
We love the openness and privacy of our neighborhood. We also enjoy the fact that when we look out our windows we see green trees and nature. A 6 ft rock wall surrounds our property which offers complete privacy and protection from the road or passerby. We never feel exposed. A short walk around our neighborhood you will see horses cows and goats on the properties around us. A rural setting but conveniently located to so many hikes and waterfalls. Twin falls a very popular swimming pond is 15 away.
Public transportation on Maui is not the fastest way to travel. The bus routes are limited and because the island is spread out you will want your own car to get to all the luscious beauty you will want to experience while you are here.
Other Things to Note
Living on an island in the middle of the pacific presents a freedom and openness that we don't often experience on the mainland. Doors and windows are open fresh air is abundant and we don't feel the need to be closed up inside. We enjoy bringing the outdoors in! Because we have the rock wall surrounding our property some of our windows are happily exposed! The plant life outside the windows also act as a covering in a more natural way. You will be sharing the house with the private room with just Gary and Marianne because the door to the bedroom is an original 1920 style door it doesn't have a lock on it. When your door is closed we respect your privacy and have no intention of entering the room without knocking or calling you name.I noticed this as one of the concerns in a guest review so I thought I would address it.
Kindness courtesy and consciousness would be greatly appreciated while you stay with us. Please be aware of leaving lights on and securing doors when leaving. If you have a question or concern please ask. We are here to help and guide your stay to be a memorable one. mahalo! Check in is any time after 4pm and check out is any time before 10 am. Respect our neighbors by keeping quiet time from 9:00 pm thru 8:00 am. Ask permission to enter neighboring properties. It is customary to remove your shoes before entering a home in Hawaii.
Hale Kokomo offers ample on site parking - Please do not park on the road or on neighbors' property
Had a great stay at Gary & Marianne's home. It has tons of character, the bedroom and bathroom are very clean, and the breeze kept us cool as we slept. It's located on a country road, so it's a very chill place.
Marianne greeted us in the morning with tea and delicious homemade muffins. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area.
Gary and Marianne are excellent hosts. My daughter and I had a one night stay, and they were extremely helpful with directions, as well as providing water, hot tea, and some fresh fruit in the morning. They are an eclectic couple, and are very knowledgeable about what is worth doing and seeing on Maui.
The room and bed were comfortable. It was a humid evening, but the breeze from the open windows were adequate, where it was still comfortable. The bathroom and shower were great! Very zen and relaxing. The aroma therapy was a nice added touch.
Gary and Marianne have a beautiful home. The room and bathroom are both lovely and nicely decorated. They were very helpful in giving us advice on where to go, we had a memorable and awesome trip to Maui! Great hosts, thanks again!
My husband and I had a great stay at Marianne's. The location was perfect for our travels on the east side of the island. It was also a nice change of pace from the busy resorts. Marianne provided us with plenty of helpful local tips for our stay in Maui. Our room was nice and comfortable and the bathroom was clean.
Gary and Marianne are great hosts! These two are legends, I'll definitely stay here next time I'm on Maui. The room was bright and breezy, with an extra comfortable bed. The downstairs shower feels amazing after a long day of hiking and surfing. Breakfast outside on the lawn was our favorite part.
Thanks for making our first airBnB experience such a pleasure. :)
Although we had a big problem in Maui island (we could not rent a car and bus driver dropped us off at undefined stop), we still had a great trip there due to Gary and Marianne help us a lot. Thank you for treating us well.

Sometimes we are really good at it! We believe energy follows thought, so if you think you can you can! We love to travel and enjoy meeting people from all over the world. Our travels have brought us to Spain, Italy, Mexico, Thailand and the Caribbean. We use travel guides about food to experience the flavors of live! We have two grown adults that we are very proud of, we honor who they are and the choices they have made and look forward to many more exciting adventures with them. 5 things we can't live without: Great weather, great food a higher consciousness, good organic chocolate and of course an active healthy body! We subscribe to the 4 agreements: Be Impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. We wish you Happy Travels and Aloha! Gary and Marianne
