The Space

Pinery is a 1937 vintage cabin in Brightwood, Oregon that we adore...and we want to share it with others that crave a quiet mountain retreat along the Sandy River.

Pinery sits on a 1/3 acre in the woods with a pretty trail to the Sandy River, just 15-20 minutes from skiing, numerous hiking trails and historic Timberline Lodge. Pinery is convenient to great restaurants, too.

The cabin is just an hour from Portland, so it's the perfect retreat for skiing, hiking, playing golf, and for anyone looking for a quiet getaway in the woods!

The 800 sq ft cabin has tons of vintage charm with all the comforts of home. It sleeps up to four (two bedroom lofts--twin and double beds--and a first floor bedroom with a queen bed.) It also has a huge stone fireplace and a modern kitchen with dining area. We have free wifi, hammocks, games, books, and a DVD screen (no TV or cable) with movies.

Pinery is pet friendly for one well-behaved dog. It is not a good place for puppies that chew.

Our place is special and quirky--lots of old open railings and a catwalk (!)--so it's not a good choice for children or those not confident of their footing on stairs, and there is absolutely no smoking allowed.

  • My spouse and I arranged to spend the weekend at their cabin and it was exactly what we were looking for. The place has an amazingly rustic feeling with the exposed branch construction of the loft and 'Timberline Lodge' style fireplace. It was however, extremely comfortable and inviting and we'd love to come back again soon. Thanks much!

  • We spent eight days at this delightful cabin in the woods. And by cabin, I mean well-equipped house surrounded by trees and within earshot of the Sandy River. It was sublime. And homey. And comfortable. The place easily sleeps four or five and has a well-equipped kitchen.

Great value, terrific location, warm and accommodating hosts with great communication. I highly recommend.

  • This cabin was perfect! We'd been dreaming of staying in a cabin in the woods for years and finally got around to it this winter. It's a super sweet, cozy cabin in a very quiet spot close to Mt Hood, with great amenities- especially the well appointed and stocked kitchen! This was exactly what we were looking for in a getaway from PDX where we could slow down, unplug, and relax. Thanks to Gwenn + Judith for hosting such an awesome spot- we'll definitely be back!

  • We had a beautifully romantic getaway at the cabin. There were lots of nice little touches, including a great music selection. On Friday night we made dinner and ate in front of the fire. On Saturday we walked down to the river and enjoyed the view, and then went up to Timberline and went snowshoeing. Then we went back to the cabin and watched a few videos in front of the fire to unwind. It was a perfect weekend! The cabin is intimate, and is a great combination of rustic and well stocked. It made for a perfect weekend retreat!!

  • What a rad place! We loved the pinery. It's very unique, clean, and comfortable. The surrounding forest and river are lovely too.

  • Chuck and I enjoyed our weekend at the cabin even though there were terrible storms. We stayed warm and cozy and enjoyed the beautiful stone fireplace. All would have been perfect if it hadn't been that our dog is afraid of storms...She did so enjoy walking down to the river in the mornings however. We will be prepared next time with something to relax her.The loft was a great escape from her pacing and panting as she did not like to go up there!

  • This was hands down the best cabin I've ever stayed in. Amazing facilities, awesome location and absolutely perfect for any skier/snowboarder looking for a comfy, quiet place to unwind after a full day of riding.

  • These gals thought of everything! The cabin is really set up so nicely and everything is where you would anticipate it to be. We spent our Thanksgiving holiday here and it couldn't have been more perfect. The kitchen accommodated everything from the smallest snack to a giant feast. This trip was my first trip sourcing through airbnb, no complaints at all. I think this is the beginning of a new holiday tradition. Everything was really relaxing. Thank you, Gwenn and Judith, you are truly gracious hostesses.

  • The Pinery was the perfect weekend getaway from Portland. As mentioned in other reviews, the kitchen was stocked, the DVD selection was awesome, and the cabin was so cozy and beautiful. Good thing to note: there is a hair dryer! I hate packing those =) The host met us in person to give us a walkthrough and coordinated a smooth check-in. Very quick to reply to Airbnb messages and text messages! Would definitely recommend it and plan on going back.

  • I had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful wood cabin. We got more than we bargained for and booked during a massive storm. We lost power, and fortunately Gwenn had already thought of everything.

We had flashlights, candles and already chopped wood. I simply went about making a fire, and we let the good times roll. It was a genuine retreat in the truest sense of the word.
