  • This was a pleasant stay and all six of us had a great time at the Penmerryl Farm Cabins (few minor caveats below). Deanie and her dogs were there to greet us when we arrived; she is a remarkable person who is super energetic and joyful. The dogs are super friendly and always happy to receive some petting. Fresh cookies were awaiting us on the table in the cabin! The property is huge: there is a swimming pool, two cabanas, a gas grill, a lake, a game room, and horse stables with a few horses roaming around the turf. We stayed in Cabin B, which is about thirty feet from the main area where the pool is. The cabin is fully equipped with everything you can possibly need for a comfortable stay. There is plenty of room, the cabin has central a/c, and wifi is in range. First caveat here: The place is alive with stink bugs. We must have killed over a hundred of them between the bedrooms, bathrooms, and living room / kitchen. It is a log cabin next to a forest so some insects are to be expected; nevertheless we thought that there must be a way to limit their access to the cabin so they are not crawling in. Other than that everything else was clean, towels and soap was provided, and the kitchen was fully equipped. We also took advantage of the game room (I think it was called The Sore Ass): there is pool, air hockey, a big TV, and some couches to hang around. Second caveat here: the place needs some light maintenance. We thought that a fresh coat of paint, patching a few holes, and removing some of the worn out furniture can be done to refresh the room. Other than that we were happy with the setup and availability of entertainment. I also wanted to mention that we had breakfast, and we thought that the food was great. Cereals, grits, fantastic cheesy home fries, fruit toast, homemade sausage links, and coffee / teas… plenty of fresh, tasty food.

All in all we were happy and very pleased with the visit. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air, beautiful nature, and lots of exciting new experiences. Deanie was a great host, and we will miss the starry skies which we rarely get in NY. If you are looking to get away from the big city to breathe some fresh air and don’t mind the bugs Penmerryl Farm Cabins are highly recommended!

  • We had an amazing time at the Penmerry Farm. We arrived Friday afternoon and left Sunday afternoon. We stayed in Cabin B, and all three rooms were nice, clean, and spacious! There were two bathrooms, and the master one was large and included fresh soaps and clean, soft towels. (Keep in mind, this is a farm, so don't be surprised if a few critters do surprise you during your's all a part of the farm/camp experience.)
The living room and kitchen was large--all fully equipped with anything we could possibly need. We were able to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and had enough plates etc. for all 5 of us.
In addition to the cabin, the grounds themselves were probably the best part of this "mini vacation". We were able to hike, get in some canoes, see horses, and feel close to nature. The horse farm was just incredible--we were even able to catch a horse show that was happening during our stay!
Deanie and her family were loving and accomodating; almost like you were staying at your family's house. We enjoyed breakfast one of the days (absolutely delicious, try the hashbrown casserole!).
Loved that this place was also so dog friendly--my dog did not want to come home! For the price as well-- I think this place is a steal. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
For those traveling outside of the farm--we were able to visit the local winery just about 15mins down the road (Rockbridge) which was such a treat! We ventured into the closest town, Lexington, VA and had an amazing lunch there. One of the highlights of our trip with the quaint German restaurant down the street (Edelweiss) where we celebrated my birthday, ate german fare, and listened to wonderful german music! The closest grocery store was only a short 15minute drive.
Thank you Deanie and family! You made my birthday just perfect!

  • In the words of my Uncle Stewart, this was the BEST ROAD TRIP of 2013! We brought together a group of family members aged 2-76 and EVERYONE had a wonderful time. Deanie and her family were amazing hosts, even before our arrival as we were dealing with an impending blizzard. Her daughter Lydia made us feel like family. It was a quiet, no fuss 3-day Thanksgiving retreat that brought my family closer together (7 adults and 3 toddlers stayed in 1 cabin). We rarely turned on the t.v. or the internet and no one (not even the crew from NYC) missed it! Thank you for an amazing Thanksgiving we look forward to returning.

  • Deanie was there to welcome us with a hug and a smile even though we arrived much later than we had planned . Deanie 's hospitality and loving welcome set the stage for a great family get together! The cabin was immaculate and slept 6 adults very comfortably. Our only regret is that we did not have enough time to explore and enjoy all that Penmerryl Farm has to offer! We highly recommend the southern breakfast. We look forward to returning again! • As soon as we arrived, we felt part of the wonderful place that is Penmerryl Farm, and that is down to Deanie, Ken and their family. The cabin we stayed in was delightful, spotlessly clean and with everything we needed (including thoughtful little touches to make British guests feel immediately at home). There was lots to do, canoeing, swimming, tennis, and it's a great place for families. The scenery is amazing, and it is a terrific place to relax and enjoy your stay. If you get the chance to stay there - take it!

  • What a splendid time we had staying at Deanie's B&B cabin. Extremely nice people, great conversations with them, lovely farm, friendly dogs, beautiful horses, well-maintained facilities and the valley in the country made a relaxing and memorable getaway trip for our family of 5. Just wish we had more time to spend at Deanie's farm. Breakfast was kickass too! It was our pleasure and we highly recommend Deanie's B&B to all travelers!

My husband, Ken, and I have raised our children here at Penmerryl and really enjoy sharing this wonderful place with others. We love to meet and host new people from all walks of life and all parts of the globe. I cook for and take care of my guests just like my family. I am originally from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and Ken is from London, England. We spent 7 years living on a boat and sailing before coming ashore to raise our family,
