The Space

Located in the vibrant Bernal Heights neighborhood I’m offering a double bedroom with private bathroom on its own floor in a turn of the last century house. Use of the shared kitchen and adjoining dining area is welcome. The private bathroom is new with a tub and shower.

The house is on a quite street just steps away from the amenities of Cortland Avenue.
Cortland Ave. is a tree lined street has everything one might need . There are excellent restaurants, gourmet bakeries, cafes and bars with outdoor patios, a book store, gift shops, banks, a wine shop, a library and playground just to name a few.

The 24 Divisadero bus line passes along Cortland. This line is a great way to see the city. It passes through the heart of town hitting many major points of interest and connects to everything. It passes through to the Mission, Noe Valley, the Castro, the Height, the Western Addition, up and over Pacific Heights and down to the bay and the Marina Green. Glorious! A great resource to the tourist on a budget.

The house has wireless internet connection. On street parking is easy.

  • We had the most pleasant stay with Ponge and his daughter Chandra. They were both very welcoming and gave us full use of their kitchen and laundry facilities. The room was nice and clean, and the bathroom too. It was a great place to stay, and we would most definitely recommend it, especially if your are staying a week or longer.

  • Ponge was the nicest host ever! I can fully recommend staying in his place. You have your private room and bathroom. And you can do the laundry, use his fully equipped kitchen and watch tv in his living room. Actually, we were always watching baseball together. Thanks to Ponge I now know the rules!
I so much enjoyed relaxing on his patio. When the cold wind is blowing in SF you can be sure that on his terrace it is protected and really warm.
Also the neighborhood is really nice. It's safe and Cortland Ave offers some nice Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. A grocery store is close and also Safeway is not far away. In a 5 minutes walk you can enjoy an amazing view over the whole city from Bernal Heights park. Transport connection is also good. Bus 24 stops really close.
All in all I really liked our stay with Ponge. Me and Jirka moved to SF for work. We lived in Ponges room for 1 month and even extended our stay as we couldn't find a flat in SF immediately.
Conclusion: clean, nice, everything you need available, good neighborhood. Absolutely recommendable!

  • Ponge is a very kind and available person.
He had good recommendations and was prepared with maps and brochures for his guests.
We stayed 2 months, usually we ate the dinner together sharing our meals.. he cooked for us very al bbq chicken soooo good!!
The room doesn't have much natural light, which is its only drawback, but was spacious and really private.
The private bathroom has a tub, and the jet of the shower is warm and strong!! ;)
The 24 bus line is a block away, we used to go in Castro and change with different pubblic trasport.
Mission Blvd is 5-10 minutes walk.
Here, there are the bus lines for Bart in 24th street , J-line, Safeway, Walgreens.
Beautiful view of san Francisco from Bernal Hill, you can jogging there without any problem and with the dogs.
It was a very pleasant experience.. ;)

  • Ponge is an amazing host, very attentive and generous to a fault. He has lived in Bernal Heights for 20 years, seeing it rise to become one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city. The room does not have much natural light, which is its only drawback. The room and bathroom were kept clean, and the bed is very comfortable. The 24 bus line is a block away, Mission Blvd and its bus lines are about 5-10 minutes walk. Beautiful views of the city from hilltops are all around.

  • Our one week stay in Oct. 2012 was a very pleasant experience. Ponge was a most welcoming, gracious and considerate host. The private downstairs area was quiet, clean and well maintained. We look forward to another stay here , again to visit our S.F. kids and grand kids. Jimmy and Brigitte, Raleigh, NC

  • Our stay with Ponge was unbeatable! Ponge was extremely hospitable and a great host to have. He had good recommendations and was prepared with maps and brochures for his guests. The room was spacious with closet space and the private bathroom was extremely clean. Both room and bathroom are tucked away so you have plenty of privacy. Ponge was very flexible and easy going, allowing us to come and go as we please. Location was great with great restaurants and cafes less than a minutes walk away. Parking was easy and public transportation was nearby. We went downtown several days without the use of our car. Highly recommend this place!

  • Ponge was a lovely host, and we enjoyed the room and bathroom. Bed is comfy and there's plenty of storage space. Ponges kitchen is awesome too, and he was fine with us cooking a few meals. Bathroom is also great, shower is warm and strong.

Good location too, cool shopping strip nearby with cafes and a few bars. Safeway is a 15 minute walk away, so is Walgreens.

All in all, an absolute gem! Thanks Ponge!

My family is originally from India but I grew up in San Francisco. I enjoy sports and cooking. I’m proud of my hometown and I enjoy sharing it with other people. My daughter has gone off to college leaving me with a quite house and spare bedroom. Since then I have been hosting foreign exchange students from around the world. I though it was time to try air bnb too.
