You couldn't get closer to town or beach ! With one bedroom and bathroom on the first floor and another bedroom and bathroom on the second floor privacy is assured for 2 couples sharing. Modern, with outside balcony, use of pool and courtyard.
Yep... all you need is to be able to walk for 3 minutes and you can find yourself either on Four Mile Beach or in the heart of Port Douglas.
The town house is one of 8 houses in a small development. The property is on two floors with the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom on the ground floor and the other bedroom and main bathroom on the first floor with the living area, which is great for privacy.
The upstairs double bedroom is next to the main bathroom (with hair dryer and Instyler).
The master bedroom downstairs comes with modern ensuite bathroom (including hair dryer) that leads out to a courtyard where there are lounge chairs and coffee table for you to relax in surrounded by the small tropical courtyard. It has its own small fridge where you can store your own food, beers or wine and there is also a kettle for you to make your own tea or coffee in your own room and a microwave and toaster.
The modern kitchen comes with an electric hob, coffee perculator and juicer, blender, toaster and microwave.
The living area has polished wooden floors that lead to a balcony that has table and chairs that you can sit outside and soak up the tropical atmosphere.
On the balcony there is also an electric BBQ so you can enjoy a true Aussie experience.
There are few mosquitoes and one can comfortably sit outside without being bothered.
Being the closest point to the Barrier Reef there are many dive operations for those who want to dive. If you want any information on what to do or who to go with I would be happy to provide any advice.
It is 10 minute drive away from the Daintree Rainforest, one of the oldest forests in the world. There are a host of activities for people wanting to experience adventure on land and off land! I am easy going and have lived all around the world with a wide variety of room mates.
There is an outside laundry area with washing machine and dryer (though laundry in Port Douglas usually dries within hours!).
There is a car port under the house if you have a rental car and the house has a communal pool to keep cool in! There is free parking on the road also (please advise if you wish to use the parking space)
There is wifi internet, but this can be intermittent and unreliable . A café (Origins) 2 minutes round the corner has broadband that is more reliable and the best coffee in town! In the evening there is Zinc.. which is 1 minute away and can relax with a glass of wine and use their internet.
Just a note to say that this is my home and as such there are some personal items stored in the house (food in cupboards) and some clothes and bags in the main wardrobe) and in boxes outside. You are welcome to use the food in the cupboards (oil, butter, condiments, spices etc). The house is not big, but there are a set of drawers and hanging areas for clothes in both bedrooms and drawers.
The house is literally two blocks from the beach and two blocks from the main high street. It's also only a 5 minute walk from the Marina where all the boats leave for the Barrier Reef. Once at home you will have everything nearby and at your fingertips!
Just to advise you that the hot water for use has to be turned on at the hot water tank. Due to a plumbing situation hot water can be used for up to 15 minutes per duration, which should be enough for most people's uses.
If you wish to get around there is a local bus that picks up outside and can take you to the Capt Cook Highway turnoff for $5 (approx. 3 miles). Private bus companies organise tours and trips. There is an electrical bike hire, car hire, motorbike hire places within 2 mins walk away.
Other Things to Note
At present I have limited access to the hot water. As such, the water needs to be turned on at the hot water tank before use and then turned off after use (15 mins) to avoid leakage. I will be organising plumbing.. but it is a major upheaval and I choose to honour existing bookings rather than cancelling.
If you smoke.. just smoke outside that's fine.
Fantastic location - so close to beach and the main shopping street. Her apartment is really nicely decorated, perfect for a family of 3 or 4 people. There's AC but she has ceiling fans which keep the place a nice temperature. Would stay again next time we're in Port Douglas.
Really functional apartment close to the beach and local amenities. Rosie was very accommodating and allowed us to check in early which really helped with our travel plans. Would definitely recommend.
Rosie is a great host, a very creative person and I loved all her artwork around the house. The neighbourhood is ideal - perfect location for the beach, shops, cafes (the best being the iced mocha at Origins a short walk away). The internet could be quite slow at times and occasionally dropped out altogether but hey, tragic, I had to go to Origins to use their uber-fast internet and have yet another iced mocha! Slight problem with plumbing but Rosie was on it straight away, no drama. The house is really lovely, comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. I would definitely come back again. :)
Our family stayed at Rosie's in July.
We had a very enjoyable stay at her comfy, quite and superbly locates apartment.
We have 2 kids ( 8 & 5) they shared the upstairs room with double bed and we stayed downstairs.
Rosie was very accommodating in assisting us with info while we were at the house and local knowledge
We would definately recommend and stay there again when we return to Port Douglas
Thank you for your positive review. I have taken note on the garden and will attend to it. It does tend to get a bit wild in the rainy season and difficult to access when rented for longer periods. Job to do this weekend! Many thanks and so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Rosie
Rosie was a fantastic host. and very responsive to our needs. If you want a cozy place close to everything - this is the spot. We walked everywhere in Port Douglas, no problem. If you are looking for luxury - this is not for you - as the place is a bit small and cluttered. Interesting photo art - and thank you for the natural bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes!
Lee Ann thank you for your feedback. Yes, the size can be a bit limiting for larger groups as it is a small apartment and if there are too many adults can seem small and cluttered. Hopefully, in the tropics it's spent most of the time outside and exploring. I am pleased you liked my photo art and good that the repellent (my own brand - Naturesaysno) was helpful to you.
Not suitable for 1 week stay with 3 adults and one baby. This is a small apartment in a block of 8 not a house. Very little room in bedrooms other than beds, and little space to unpack. Bed in downstairs bedroom creaks and floors not soundproof nor particularly clean. Garage cramped for car due to storage use. Good location.
In my description it does state the layout of the accommodation. Whether described as a town house (it is a terraced house on two storeys - or an apartment - on two floors) I hope that there is sufficient description for people's different definitions to be made clear. There are wardrobe and chest of drawers for use in each room. It is not a big house and I don't portray it as such. The floors are wooden floors and after your suggestion I might lay a rug down on the upper floor for soundproofing. I would like to know more about the 'not particularly clean' - they are older floors but are cleaned before each visit. The car port is small and I agree that it can be difficult to manoeuvre in. The car port does have storage boxes outside which I do admit is not a good sight, but since I do live in the house when not renting, I have mentioned that I do need to store my belongings outside the house and to allow in the rental for my personal items. As for the creaky bed, apart from getting a new bed or some oil I cannot do much about this. Since it was your first holiday away with the new baby staying in a strange place is always difficult. I hope that your next trip will be less trouble free.
Thanks Rosie, your apartment was perfect for our trip to port Douglas. It had everything we needed and plenty of space to relax. The location was so convenient to the beach and town so walking everywhere was nice. Thanks for letting us collect our bags and freshening up after the reef, it worked out perfectly. Thank you

I am a professional diver and have worked since 2002 all round the world - Thailand (Phi Phi), Honduras (Utila), Antigua, Grand Cayman, Malta, LA, Costa Rica. I have dived all over the world, but still have my 'wish list'.
I did work for a few years in Sydney back in my 'office' job in Marketing and New Product Development for Cosmetics.
I have my own artworks range (check out (website hidden)) and natural health products , Nature Says No (check out (email hidden)).
I am easy going and having backpacked round Asia and Central America, would say that I love meeting new people.

Very easy going with anybody staying - but draw the line at DIY Graffiti or the new stucco effect wall finish with diced carrots after too much alcohol from the night before!
